I had the honour of working with Barry when he was racing trucks. Sherwood Daf was my client, and they surprised me by inviting me to a meeting - without telling me Barry would be there. We had a really good business chat, and reminded him that I used to watch him race at Malory Park during the mid '70s. Turns out he wanted to know if I was the sort of advertising guy he wanted to work with. the meeting was to sound me out. When he asked what bikes I rode, I told him honestly that I was a Honda man, but my favourite bikes of all time were the Velo Thruxton and the Manx Norton. He reminded me that he started out on a Manx. My mate told me I should have told him I rode Suzukis. But you don't get on in life by bullshitting. We hit it off immediately, got on great, and he trusted my judgement with the publicity. He was a great bloke. Totally genuine. Thank you for sharing these memories of a true motorcycle hero.

I met Barry Sheene at a book signing in 1977, he chatted to mine mum and I and was a seriously great bloke to take the time to chat to an eight year old kid. Looking back I think he probably fancied my mum!!!

One of my greatest idols of all time. Perfected the "knee down" style of riding we see today, he was the maveric who overcame all the odds in his turbulent carreer to win the World title and track records to which their were many set over the years. He did more to improve track safety than any other person in his era using his profile. The first superstar of motor sport rest in peace Bazza ✌ you are still the peoples champ in our hearts.

Saw Barry racing at Oliver’s mount in Scarborough in the 80s , broke the lap record at least twice that day.

Every kid wanted to be Barry Sheen. Best bikes. Best girls. Best leathers. Best helmet. Best motor home. When people like Barry pass you realise how fragile it all is. From everything to nothing.

A proper character who lived life to the full and some!. Although Barry and James Hunt were different backgrounds they lived their lives in a similar manner and although they would be probably be frowned upon today by the sad world we live in they were childhood heroes and still are - everyone who loved motorcycle racing wanted to be like Barry. Such a shame they are both long gone in life, but they will live on forever in character and achievement. Also sad that Barry's brother in law ex racer Paul Smart was killed in a road accident late last year - fortunately had the pleasure to meet and chat to him a few times - a nicer man you couldn't wish to meet.

Barry Sheene was famous for knicking other blokes girlfriends. Oh and Motorbike racing & breaking loadsa bones was an occupational hazard! Taken from the world too early. May he continue to ride wherever he finds himself. R.I.P. Barry.

Look at those crowds. Nothing today. Empty. I've been to a few big races and the crowds are thin.

I remember seeing Steve Parish at the York race show in the early 1980’s he had a joke stall, unfortunately he was the most miserable person you could meet. Barry on the other hand was always great, the Valentino Rossi of the 1970s and 80s.
