Ive seen Barry 3 times. Once, he opened up act 2 with a huge screen showing him doing this live from the 70’s (it was the 90’s) & he had been in a wild Cuban outfit.. he had a guy pop on stage in the same outfit acting as if it were him & then we realized it wasnt him when he popped out of the floor in a tux to do it live! So creative & fun. I used to play “disco” With one sister & we took turns flipping on the lightswitch with a coloured light laser & danced to this all the time lol! Good memories... he truly is a wonderful performer & super talented, a pleasure to see & funny! There was a Copacabana movie, so it was based around the song ..1978... there are many more like this to check out ! Try some Neil Diamond dude... i love my jews from Brooklyn! Barry, Neil, Barbra Streisand.. excellent choice dude 🖤!!

When you said that the song sounded like a jingle, that was maybe a more insightful comment than you realized. He was one of the top jingle writers and performers of the 1960's and 70's...Here are a few that he did: "Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there" (they still use this one to this day) McDonalds "You deserve a break today" "I'm stuck on Band-Aid, because Band-Aid's stuck on me"

Barry is a rare performer who can look cool when he's being corny and corny when he's being cool. This song is just as much fun as it is dark. But, if he wasn't Barry Manilow, he wouldn't be Barry Manilow. And that's why we love him :))

Of all the reaction videos I've watched, this is one of the most honest channels I've come across. The story takes place in the 1940s and ends in the 1970s. In 1978, the song hit #2 in France and #2 Canada (Dance/Urban). If nothing else, never forget to keep that Philly hat clean. just sayin

yo, i'm a 63 yr old black man grew up in Harlem, NY. i have always dug my some Barry. but before he became the man, he wrote tv gingles for micie d's and state farms. and many more. he was then picked up by Bet Midler as her piano player. he cut an lp, nothing happened, then a second and his star shinned with his first hit. after that his second hit came from that first lp that went nowhere and went gold too. today there 3 people I'll spend money to go see, George Clinton, Bootsy Collins and Barry Manilow. on of the best lp's i ever bought was barry's first live lp, the blue cover, way back in the day.

This was my jam when I was little and I still love it despite it being kinda corny. I was 4 when this came out in 78. Back in the 70s and 80s, probably even earlier, they used to have those tiny jukeboxes at the tables in diners and it used to cost like 10 cents to play a song. My mom used to take me to this one place after kindergarten and I would get a slice of lemon pie and the owner of the place used to put money at the juke box at my table so I could listen to my favourite song while I ate the pie. Been a fan of lemon pie and copacabana ever since. 😁😁

Sounds like a jingle, eh? You noticed! There is a reeeeeaaaally good reason for that. Barry wrote a whole hell of a lot of commercials, jingles, etc. that were HUGE in the 70s and some are still in use today. Check out his V.S.M. (very strange medley). with video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/doeL2NmMmNOplrQ.html from the LIVE album: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lamhyppupt2TYbw.html

One of the things I hate is how people make fun of songs that we all knew people loved when it first came out. They call it corny and such. Sometimes it is even people who loved it when it came out but now want to be cool. Even if you like it ironically you still like it. The only thing I get from it is that the people doing it now will have it done to them by the next generation. As you say, if you listen to the song, why a bit light in tune is a tragic story. How you don't know this woman's story sitting in the Disco who you think is old and fading.

This predates Pee Wee so Pee Wee looks like Barry. Glad you listened to this the greatest showman of our generation and still performing today. Barry puts on a show there is no doubt about that. Copacabana a song that is a complete story in 7 minutes. It also has been a musical, a TV movie and high schools still put this on as a play from time to time. Listen to the lyrics and you'll understand. Song came out of the album Even Now in 1978.

That would be Cyndi Lauper who sang the Bubble-Gum hit, Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Turns out that Cyndi has about the best voice I've ever heard in a female singer. I'm going to send you a gift...Cyndi singing live in 1980 from either a German or Polish (!) TV show, The Blue Angel?.
