I wanted to share my mother’s two pronouncements which remind me of Dame Edna. Every Thanksgiving, my mother would say to us, “ I don’t care what people say about you. I think you’re all right.” On Christmas, she always said, “ I take back everything I said about you” ( this year).

And my mother in law! She would say things like, “ oh what a pretty skirt. It would look so much better if you had ironed it.” ( It was linen.)

WHAT a cracking essay. I wrote about the great unknown, Norman Lamputt - who died a few weeks ago - and he was fervent and uncompromising about the importance of drawing.

Everyone's a critic, aren't they? But how can we blame Barry for that if he wants to get a leg up on Melissa's Coote? I take refuge in Barry like a Buddhist takes refuge in the dharma, the push pin, and the Santa Maria. Or something like that. Viva la Humph!
