That new keyboard camera angle looks good, Isaac. Everything's there that we need to see now; it's easy to follow your fingerings. Thanks as always for this clear breakdown.

on your keyboard you can use a light that shines from the side and not from straight so that it's more obvious which keys you are pressing

Thanks, Thank you very much, you have a very good way of explaining these elements, and I love the references to the theory that Master Harris exposes. congratulations master

I’ve been learning jazz for about 8 years and playing guitar for 18 years now so I understand all these concepts and how it all works, I also watch every Barry Harris video there is but I’m kinda new to (jazz) piano so voicings are what kinda slow me up, I know how to build any chord but how do you know what way to voice it? like I can learn a Barney kessel or Kenny Burrell arrangement by ear on guitar in 10 minutes because theres not so many ways to play the same chord. But on piano it’s all split up and re arranged, at least it seems that way. If I try to learn a bud Powell song or something by ear on piano I’m lost

Coming back to this video, I find it interesting how fake books tend to list this turnaround as all maj7 chords. I played it like that for the longest time and funnily enough it still doesn't sound wrong. I believe (like apparently Barry does too) that a tritone subbed dominant chord can be a maj7 and still have the dominant pull. The maj7 of Db is the tonic C, but if you think if it through the G7 that's just a sus4. The notes with the most pull, F and Ab are both in there so it has the gravity of a dominant. It's just a way to make the V-I sound powerful even though the tonic is in the melody, like in the tune of Barry's, Like This. Explaining the Cmaj7 -> Ebmaj7 bit is less fun though, you just go to a chromatic mediant (related key center up a minor 3rd) and then go to its IV without V7'ing into it, like the nerds would say, a "lydian cadence" I'm totally not a nerd though

Yes I have seen this many times all with major 7s and have liked the sound of the maj7 sound while outlining the minor and darker notes of the key. Both sound good to me.

Hi Isaac, I’m really enjoying the new style of video. I wonder if you could talk a little about whether eight notes should swing or should they be played straight. There seems to be differing views on the correct way to practice them. Thanks.

Great video! "In the still of the night" is one of my favorite tunes of all time. Gonna pull that trick next time I play it at a jam, which will be never because nobody knows that tune. Even with the outright legendary take on it by Bird with the choir. Truely lamentable. Btw I think Barry kinda loops the turnaround on Bud's Oblivion, at least on that one live footage that's up on youtube

Since you said you would use that as an accompaniment, does that mean that the scale outline you use could be the 1/6/2/5 instead?
