Far East. This simple riddim by the late great Barry Brown is the boss of boss-riddims. Some of the greatest roots men and dancehall artists have sampled this riddim. I counted up to 200 different samplers and lost count. The list of heavyweight samplers of Far East, in no particular order include Augustus Pablo, King Tubby, Big Youth, Sugar Minott, Dennis Brown, Freddie McGregor, Gregory Isaacs, Horace Andy, I-Roy, Johnny Osbourne, Leroy Smart, Michael Rose (ex-Black Uhuru), Delroy Wilson, Shabba Ranks, Trinity, Barrington Levy to name but a few. Barrington Levy's sample IMHO is the greatest of them all.

@Chu Konwea +. I doubt it. Many of the artists you've named preceded Barry B. It's more likely a foundation rhythm going way back. The Far East sound is synonymous with Augustus Pablo as far back as the early 70s.

This riddim is actually a version to the classic *"Jah Shakey"* by Roland Alphonso, which was recorded at Studio One in 1967 and it is one of the baddest instrumentals ever made. Barry Brown's cut became a huge hit for him, so that's why the riddim took on another name: *"Far East."* But the original's from Studio One. This riddim also goes by the name *"Rockers Hop"* and *"Jack Steady."*
