Exploiting the local, regional and international markets requires smooth trade. However, trade faces impediments that have slowed down its development. Various studies have highlighted some barriers to regional and international trade. These include tariff and non-tariff barriers such as import quotas, voluntary export restrictions and subsides. Other barriers include domestic content requirements, poor regional infrastructure and a general lack of harmonized trade regulations.
Very few studies have been done to understand the barriers to local agricultural trade in the agricultural value chain. This documentary looks at these local trade barriers and suggests ways of overcoming them.
