Barra Schofield Co2 Revolver, 5" vs 7" "Full Review" by Airgun Detectives

Спорт

This is a full review of both the 5" and the 7" Schofield Co2 Pistols. These are a classic replica of the original pistol that was upgraded and patented by Major George Schofield in 1875. These are capable of shooting both .177 (4.5 mm)caliber steel BB's as well as pellets. We give an in-depth look at the performance. #staytunedforairgundetectives

    You made my day big time. I didn't know that I could put my Webley shells into the Schofield. I splurged over the last few months and bought three Webleys, two Schofields, 1875, Colt SAA and a Gletcher NGT. I was just about to shoot the Schofield 5-in today it's all loaded up with BB's and I jumped for Joy when you told me I can take the shells from my Webleys and use pellets so I'm going to be doing my own testing today. thanks a million. Cheers from Canada.

    Richard, Barra was bought out by a group of younger guys about 3 years ago. They really improved the quality and customer service of all their products. These new Schofields do have smooth bore barrels and are primarily designed for BB's however, the pellet shells give you an upgraded option. 👌👍😉

    @@AirgunDetectives Yes. Those do seem really good. The Webley pistols also gotten good feedback - but I think I would lean more towards these Schofields myself. And loading pellets directly into the rear of pellet cartridges that are seated already in the cylinder appeals to me since saves time when do not want the whole experience. The one and only revolver that lately kinda been on my "wants list" is the Gamo PR-776. Mostly for the pellet clip system that you put into the cylinder. No effin' 'round with cartridges.😂 Yea.. I know. It is just a Gamo - but I never really been a "revolver type of guy" anyhow.😁😁 Not gotten myself any new airpistols lately, even though it has been my main thing.. Surely a few out there that I'd want (like the blowback pellet PPQ), but the Virtus has gotten me going for nothing else but it.

  • @AirgunDetectives

    @AirgunDetectives

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@brorjordas1979 The Gamo 776 is the identical foundation as the older Dan Wessons, the Crosman SR357 and a coupleothers. I figured out a power adjustment screw on those models. It puts more pressure on the hammer spring and will give you more velocity in the warmer weather. The only difference in those guns is the Gamo has a different cylinder and has the round clip that holds all the pellets. You get good velocity because the pellets travel from the back of the cylinder. If you get one I'll send you some photos of the power adjustment screw. I think the gun was originally designed for it.

    @@AirgunDetectives Sweet! Way nice to hear that. What I particularly liked on the Gamo PR-776 was just that cylinder+clip system. And comes even with two pellet clips. Not a big Gamo fan otherwise, since many being so plasticky. But I got to test my dad's old Gamo Combat (that had a built-in laser underneath the barrel) after I had fixed it - and it shot pretty good and accurate.. But way sweet if there's already kind of a built in power adjustment capability..😁👍

    @AirgunDetectives Nice to see you out shooting with your old man 👍🙂 Would you consider testing the Schofields again, along with maybe the Black Ops 8" revolver as well, for performance, accuracy, and maybe penetration (something like a We All Juggle Knives Spam tin test) with an eye towards short range critter and pest work? We're talking rats, chipmunks, starlings, red squirrels, etc. I've seen great success in years past on such quarry with Crosman 357s, and I think these fast smoothbore shell guns might be viable too... For testing pellets I'd like to see heavy lead stuff (Crosman CPH and Piranha, RWS Supermag, H&N Silver Point etc.) and alloys like Crosman's Fast and Gold Flights, Predator GTO Domed, H&N FTT Green and Barracuda Green, RWS Hyper Max, etc.) Let me know what you think of this idea if you get the chance JC 👍

    TheSchofield replicas are excellent, and the Barra people are very nice as well to customers. I had some communications with them early on suggesting some products and variations. I also had an older 7 inch nickel Bear River revolver that was out of warranty and leaking. I sent it to them fo repair . They told me that they were waiting for parts and had a problem taking the revolver apart, a screw had broken and they had no spares. Rather than have me wait for months they sent me one of their display revolvers as a replacement and only charged me shipping . I have since purchased a 5 inch nickel model . Came in a nice box not blister pack . Deadly accurate with both bb and pellets. I had suggested a rifled barrel version that was due to appear but then Covid hit. They have somore other irons in the fire as well and hope they will appear. There may even be a short barrel Schofield with 3 1/2 barrel down the road

    They had previously shown a prototype 1858 Remington conversion. They were working on a co2 cartridge lever rifle. They were considering either a Winchester 66 or 73, and had decided on a 66. While I own and like the Umarex 94, it is not period correct for the old west and was not a pistol caliber rifle. A 92 would have even been better. Still they appear committed and hopefully will show some new western airguns. The limiting factor may be the political situation in Taiwan.

    The most annoying thing with airsoft company is the lack of variety when it comes to 6mm pellet-only with orange tip. Some states’ law go hard on any airsoft that does not have that limitation and would classify it as firearm. I’m not against the law, I think it’s actually a good thing, so it’s really the company that should have try to give more options to 6mm-only with orange tip. I was so annoyed when my Remington 1875 was put on hold because it was classified as a firearm since it can take metal pellet. Was told to go through FFL Dealer for a legal exchange and that was not worth the trouble in my opinion. And I got super annoyed again when my alternative with the Schofield does not have a 7 inch silver version of 6mm-only with orange tip. Down to it, all the focus for a 19th century 6mm-only with orange tip airsoft is on the Colt Peacemaker/SAA. Great airsoft too, but its design doesn’t match well with the kind of airsoft gunslinger I am.

  • @AirgunDetectives

    @AirgunDetectives

    2 жыл бұрын

    I would not worry about BB's wearing out the rifling in a barrel. That literally would take years and probably close to a million rounds. I generally, don't like the spin that a rifled barrel causes on a BBs. In most cases it can affect accuracy in a negative manner. So a smoothbore you can shoot either, BB's or Pellets, but a rifled barrel generally, provides better accuracy using pellets. The Barra Schofield currently come in only a "smooth bore."

It can be done with some like the Colt SAA and Remington 1875 BUT is not recommended as it can quickly wear out some internal springs. Very disappointed with Barra that they won’t take on a UK distributor as we have a lot of replica enthusiasts dying for and unable to purchase their 5” over the Pond here.

    David, give them some time...they are young guys and just took over the company about 3 years ago. They are growing fast...I am going to meet up with them at Shot Show 2022, I will address that for you.😉

    @@GR-cf4qh not quite true. Air Cartridges were banned for new sale circa 1997 but existing owners could keep them on FAC Licence. Cannot be sold or passed onto another person and must be legally destroyed if no longer wanted or owner dies. Co2 is not banned and the reason so many replica enthusiasts have them after the full RS handgun banned became Law. In England and Wales you only need to be over 18 but in Scotland you must have the correct certification issued by Police. I presently own about 30 Co2 replicas and am fully certificated.

    Definitely only shoot pellets through this, way more power and fps. When I buy 1 I won't even put bbs in it.

    You can shoot BB's, they are inexpensive, because it is a smooth bore barrel, but make sure you purchase the pellet shells, 50 more fps👍
