One of their strongest effort in a long time. I felt like they were experimenting and it really worked, heavy and heartfelt at the same time. One of the best albums I have heard from any band in a bit long time. Instant classic.

This album is pure gold, the psycheledic, electric and melodic landscapes built in this records are just incredible. The songwriting is efficient and catchy. The sound really organic and vivid. This is a brilliant album 🙌
While I do think that there were some odd production quirks scattered throughout Stone, it still sounds a million times better than Gold & Grey. That album is so frustrating to sit through because of how compressed and clunky it sounds. Stone is at least clear and balanced for the majority of its runtime.

Wow. I usually agree with you but totally disagree this time. I fucking love this record. The production is so much better - the music breathes and everything feels less claustrophobic, they diversified their sound in some new ways, and vocals are better... love the shared leads. Some amazing harmonies weaved in. I guess YMMV but IMO it might be their best record yet.

It's quite clear that Anthony judges things much more subjectively than he used to. I've introduced this album to so many people and they all love it and have it on repeat.... that NEVER happens. This is far from an average album unless you just don't appreciate rock instrumentation anymore. Anthony's opinions are his and he's more than welcome to it but I guess I've always classed him as an objective music reviewer and he just isn't these days.

Just be glad they got rid of David Fridmann, their loudness-war-obsessed producer on Purple and Gold & Grey who compressed the albums so bad you thought someone put peanut butter in your ears before you hit play. stay with First, Second and Red. Cant do anything wrong with that.
I’m glad this album isn’t as bloated or as hyper-compressed, but it does get meandering for a bit. I’m a bit more positive on this album because they’re one of my favorite bands and the big moments I loved, but it could’ve been more memorable as a whole and less meandering. Still like it though.
The album is amazing
I’m getting stoned to this
Probably my least fave album from Baroness so far, and I'm a huge fan. I really liked Gold & Grey and the production didn't bother me at all but I just struggle to get into a few of these songs. But I'd still give it a 7
Last Word is great. And Shine and Anodyne are pretty good too, but I can’t get into Beneath the Rose or the other tracks. Last Word was such a great single, but nothing else compares to that first taste of greatness. I agree that some of the songs are well produced and well thought out like a sonic journey, but then I’m questioning where the stepping stones to the actual treasure of the song are hidden.
I sleep on the record because the singles didn't convince me. I will check it first.
I think that this album does indeed repeat the recipes that Baroness had for success from past experiences, but this time around is better produced, and they are doing something different than everyone else is refreshing too. I think the more you listen to it the more sense it makes. I'd say a light 7.
This is a GREAT ALBUM, never having heard their music before, I come with open mind, open ears and I LOVE ALL THE SONGS ON THIS ALBUM, especially the more peaceful songs which is the balance of the harder core. STONE all the way. Glad I didn't take your review seriously.
I feel like this album was a refinement of what they've been doing. I like it. I don't think they were trying to be particularly heavy. I love how Red started, but it felt like it just stayed on a sort of path. Then, Purple felt a little more like too many directions. For me, this album was the path between the two extremes. That opener on Red is dope, thpugh.
Isn't the Isn't it now review now?
gotta review new KEN Mode and Woe albums
Idk why everyone is reviewing Baroness as if they're still a sludge metal band? They're changing, as any band that's been around for this long should imo. Also Choir is one of the best tracks and I'm ready to personally fight any one who disagrees

This album is a masterpiece! I love it!!!
While this definitely isn't their best, I'd easily put this above gold&grey and purple. 5/10 feels a little harsh, I'd say it's more like a 6 or 7.
I think you night have missed a trick with this one. It took me more listens than one can reasonably expect from anyone reviewing the album. But I've found it to be kind of incredible. Genuinely didn't think I liked it, but found myself playing it. One night, on a long drive home, it resonated. Resonated like check your head or the wall resonated. The only perfect music for that moment. Doesn't mean the album is good, necessarily. But it's never happened to me with a bad album either. Or maybe it has. I dunno.
To me the only interesting thing about this album is the cover art, such a dissapointment after gold and grey.
I really enjoyed this one. Music is subjective and at least we still have bands now in the second decade of their careers still innovating. That can't be said about other genres of music. My only disappointment was for the privilege of ordering the vinyl from the official site I got slapped with so much postage that it would've been $35 cheaper to pick this one up from the local record store. Oh I also had to wait a week after release for it to turn up when it was available day 1 at my local.
But Doja cat gets a 6/10… okay dude. You’re out of your mind
Wolf eyes burned mind cd 💿 got that lift yr skinny vinyl texture surprisingly
I was genuinely confused at first hearing choir but for some reason I love it now.
underscores Wallsocket pls
Hell awaits vinyl and converge axe to fall blue with gold got nice textures too
This was easily their best and most consistent LP. Your review is a little confused, focusing on what you wanted from it as a metal album but also claiming that you wanted more experimentation stemming from the single which was incorporating from other genres so which is it? Stone is a densely packed album and I got more from it on each relisten

I mean, when you think about it they dedicated four tracks to experimentation in this one. They opened and closed the record on an acoustic refrain that thematically ties the whole album together. They tried something completely different with the beneath the rose/choir/the dirge trilogy. I love the way the record started you off with something different, then gave you a gold/grey style song, took you on a weird journey, brought it back a bit with anodyne to that classic baroness sound, and then took you on another trip towards the end.
Great album review.
I think it's weaker for a baroness album, but overall i think the album is still solid. It's a bit too backloaded imo tho, i don't like the solo on "Last Words" at all, and choir is a pain to listen through. The other songs on the first half are okay. Magnolia is such a banger, tho i think it's the one that fits the most on their previous records so it makes sense it'd be my favorite
I can’t believe you didn’t mention “Shine” at all, that’s one the best tunes they’ve ever put out. Banger from start to finish. But I agree about the rest of the record, really fell flat for me
I don’t agree with this review. The album is very good and way better than the last one. Production is better than the last 2. I don’t know what you were expecting. Sorry they aren’t death grips, which is more your speed.
Badthony Jokestano came through with a real doozy here.
Yeah Baroness got a streak with blue and red purple what not havent heard yellow and green but blue definitely a tight cd
Secretly, We Are All Geese.
can you review tension
You're nuts hating on that guitar solo-- the production is delightfully gutter, and she cheffed Randy Rhoads, John McLaughin, Brent Hinds and Dime into a masterpiece.
Still better than Fear Inoculum!! 😂 Jokes aside, not mentioning the two best songs in the album , Shine and Magnolia , doesn't really add to the final score , does it? All the reviews i had seen so far , were between 4/5 and 5/5 . Am i shoked by this 2,5/5 ? Of course not ! That has just become sooo typical with the metal albums , it's almost welcomed. 4/5 for me.

As a big big Baroness fan, I have to agree with Anthony. This album was underwhelming. The tracks after Anodyne made me fall asleep until Bloom which piqued my interest and is my 2nd favorite song on the album, before Beneath the Rose. I’d much much rather listen to Blue, Red, Purple, hell even Yellow & Green than this album.
