Surely, given that the Internet and out-of-town stores are increasingly attractive to people, the correct thing to do here is to try to give the high street advantages that those types of shopping don't have, rather than needless DISadvantages that they don't have? If people were given a friendly and personalised service when they went to the high street, they may well choose to go there. Charging people to park, and making it unnecessarily difficult to pay, doesn't really seem to fit in with that. And if people must be charged, then, in this day and age, it would be easy enough to set up a system where their registration number is detected and their account is automatically debited whenever they park there. The current system is unwelcoming, seems designed to catch people out, and (unsurprisingly) is driving people away. Urban councils in particular have not been on the side of the voters they purportedly serve for a long time now.

30 minute parking makes no sense. I guarantee you most of those spaces won't be used by people just quickly popping to the shops. You have to remember people like this are never happy, next they'll complain about it only being "30 minutes free" and having to rush out of the shop to get back to their car before they get a ticket, the traders will complain about people browsing their shop possibly about to make a purchase rushing out to get to their car. By forcing people to pay it deters people parking there or stopping who aren't using the town's trade or facilities, and without being funny, there's very little you can do comfortably in 30 minutes away. Imagine going into a cafe for breakfast knowing you have just under 30 minutes to move your car before you get a ticket.... your food being cooked is likely to take 10-15 minutes.

Meaning that mrs Miggins can't take her poodle Floof to the doggy parlour anyway, because the spaces outside will be full of cars wanting to park there all day for free and not using any of the shops nearby, just so they don't have to pay in a multi-storey which is closer.

offering mobile phone or credit card only payment is illegal
@thefiestaguy8831
Жыл бұрын
It's not. Ultimately they can choose to offer parking on their terms. If you don't like it, you don't have to accept it. It's like a nightclub stating they will only permit entry to those dressed semi-smartly, and refusing entry to someone in scruffy jeans and a t-shirt. It's not illegal, they are the landowner and their terms apply, if you don't like them you don't have to use their services. A lot of places now are card, pay by phone, or pay by app now as it means the payment is done and the transaction completed wirelessly, i.e no need for a big box of cash sitting in those machines which have been stolen before. Might not think it's a lot but in a previous Parking Wars video some years back barnet council collected roughly £28,000 a week across their parking machines. That's a lot of physical cash to be sat in a parking meter which is liable to being damaged and the money inside stolen. This simply can't happen with pay by phone/debit card. It also means they don't have to send people out to collect the coinage and can have them doing other roles instead.

They seem to think free parking will help, the reality is that it won't. Any free parking will be taken advantage of, people who are using it to commute to work, or want to go and do a 1 hour gym workout and then 2 hours shopping will park there all day, taking up the space for as long as they please. Meaning that mrs Miggins can't take her poodle Floof to the doggy parlour anyway, because the spaces outside will be full of cars wanting to park there all day for free and not using any of the shops nearby, just so they don't have to pay in a multi-storey which is closer.
55 pounds is $76 usa 🤣
vote them out!
I'd love this job, I fucking hate drivers and the ones who break the rules deserve everything they get.
Thirty Minutes free parking is real good idea. Where I live you used to be able to do that you could park push the button and get 30min. So if you wanted an hour you would push the button and put in $0.50 for and extra 30 minutes. They took all those meters out and know you have to pay for the first 30 minutes too, I was sad to see that.
When it comes to voting next you know who to vote for
thing is councils don't do coins because it is hacker and fraud prof
Caroline Shepherd would probably be an incredible after dinner speaker. She must have heard it all! L. Colonel, I'm sure you're a bally hero, and well done for getting orf, (excellent case presentation) but you're still a bit of a rascal, aren't you?
offering mobile phone or credit card only payment is illegal

I agree they should be 30 minutes parking the council don't know their butts from a hole in the ground they did what was going on. Theay should play attention thanks should go up there and check with ourselves instead of been lazy.
What a bunch of entitled people.
