Barn Auction Honda CT70

This is a continuation of the barn find Honda CT70 that Patrick Wells and I got to spit fire, in a previous video. Follow along to see the build process and keep your fingers crossed that it continues to go as smoothly as the disassembly in this video.

The low miles, in tack speedo cable, reusable wiring harness and easy disassemble: somebody had a mean wreck and parked it out of the weather, maybe. Great potential - folks buy these w the o.e. motor tuned up? Joy to watch you work!

Hey Mike I restored a 1972 C70, then bought a 2023 Trail 125, now I’ve acquired a 1972 Ct 70 and am restoring that. It was you that got me hooked! Don’t know if I should thank you or curse you!! Just kidding it’s been so much fun and joy and a great addition to retirement activities.

Valve adjustment tool inside that tool bag. Crescent wrench not part of it. There would be a black plastic handle that is not in the bag. That would hold the two screwdriver bits. The bag is in awesome shape. Honda had set these things up to be worked on. I am so looking forward to meeting you Mike. These are all the things that when I was 10, that had help me decide my career path! All the years I have been working on these things, the stories that can be told! Nice bike Mike!

The original tool kit supplied with my Candy Gold K0 (4/70) has a red handle for the screwdriver bits. Also noteworthy, the two- 4-point screwdriver bits fit the JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screws on the bikes better than a Phillips bit. The screwdriver bits can also be turned by inserting them into the slots cut into the flat spanner, either in the middle like a ‘T’-handle or on the end for more leverage. The screwdrivers can also be inserted into a slot cut into the spark plug/axle nut socket. The smaller diameter JIS screwdriver bit can also be inserted thru the hole in the tappet adjusting tool to hold it’s position while tightening the locknut. The bike still having the original style tool kit “on board” is like “icing on the cake”! You scored big time on this one Mike, in my opinion!

I still wont a honda most of all. grew on on atc's all hondas had atc 90 first then I got two different 200x's. had a 2001 400ex and 2004 450r. also had few hond 80cc scooters. and elite that was black, and aero that was grey. the aero did wheelies

Have enjoyed your info and builds. This one will parallel a build I just picked up . Years ago I bought a blue k0 out of a barn and did a cosmetic as you are doing now. Now I got a k0h model which looks in the same condition as yours. It's the hazel blue to me. A couple questions . Do you sell used parts and when you buy repo who do you use. The owner was going to look for the chain guard but wondering if you might have one in that color? If not do you have paint codes? Thanks, and keep builds coming

Thanks for watching. Unfortunately, I don’t sell parts. I purchase from just about all the suppliers and eBay / Amazon. I build on the cheap, rather than worrying about how correct a part is, so I typically buy from whoever is the cheapest on the part I need.

K0s were manufactured during 1969-1971, HK0s during 1970-1971, and both K1s & HK1s during 1972-1973. Major changes were made to K1s and HK1s: Oil-Filled front fork, separate headlight bucket and round speedometer, a different exhaust/muffler with round holes stamped into the heat shield, different seat cover with a chrome trim strip on the bottom edge, and a huge, really huge (by about 3x larger) taillight, like used on Honda’s full sized bikes. HK1 was also the last model to be offered as a 4-speed, manual clutch.
