Barking Bus Garage Open Day Celebrating 100 years | Routes 62 & 145 Heritage Day

Barking Bus Garage Open Day Celebrating 100 years | Routes 62 & 145 Heritage Day
This very special open day to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Barking Bus Garage, which opened in January 1924.
On display inside the garage, if all has gone to plan, should be around 20 buses including heritage types and some up to date examples too. We ve sought to have as many of the different vehicle types to have graced Barking Garage over the last 100 years as we can, demonstrating how vehicle design has both evolved and become much more environmentally friendly. Alongside the buses on display are several stalls selling a wide range of transport-related goods including models, books and memorabilia. Amongst these is a Stagecoach London stall selling specially branded merchandise. A range of drinks and light refreshments are also available inside the garage.
In addition to the open day today, we are pleased that our friends from the London Bus Museum are operating a selection of visiting/vintage buses as extra buses on parts of routes 62 (Barking Station - Faircross & Chadwell Heath - Faircross) and 145 (Redbridge Station - Dagenham, Kent Avenue) which both pass the garage. These extra buses will run between approximately 1000 and 1700 and we are grateful to the London Bus Museum and Transport for London for making this happen.
Thanks must go to the visiting vehicle owners and crews, stall holders, industry partners who have provided support. photographers who have provided the pictures in this programme, TiL and other operators - as well as to the staff at Barking Garage and our head office at West Ham Garage, both past and present. who have made this event possible.
All of the staff working here today are volunteering their time to make this event a success.
Stagecoach London have been supporting Macmillan Cancer Support for several years, the most visible feature of our support for Macmillan is Romford Garage based Enviro 400 10301 which carries a special Macmillan livery and is named "Martyn Henderson' in memory of our much missed colleague. All the proceeds from today's event will be donated to Macmilian and we hope will help to push our fundraising total towards our target of £125,000.
