    I have built a lot of two stroke motors. Porting, window's in the piston, gas porting the rings, all have there place. But as an exhaust goes, nothing beats an expansion-chambered exhaust. The back pressure on the exhaust pulse is what makes the power.

    I would like to see a dyno run with and without using both mufflers. I raced motorcycles for enough years to realize to get a gain at a certain RPM you usually lose at another RPM unless an engine is just choked off with the exhaust pipe. Not usually the case. Most have the problem with the intake. Porting can be the problem also. Loud may seem faster but it not always faster. Every different saw may react differently to the same modifications.

    WCS products are very good quality I’m just not a fan of the bark box. Too loud and I don’t like the way they look on the saw. I prefer to modify the factory muffler, their universal exhaust ports work great. Good flow without being overly loud.

  • @alanmeyers3957

    @alanmeyers3957

    Жыл бұрын

    Flow is good on the bottom but for high end power, they need an expansion chamber to cool the exhaust.

  • @cobre7717

    @cobre7717

    Ай бұрын

    @alanmeyers3957 expansion chambers do not cool the exhaust. It does capture exhaust gas and stuff it back into the exhaust port at a specific time. Right before the piston closes on the compression stroke. Expansion chamber design takes into account the speed of the exhaust pulse and the speed depends on the exhaust gas temperature. The amout of performance gains depends on the shape and placement of expansion chamber in ratio to header and tailpipe/ stinger. You can fabricate an expansion chamber to hit at low speed rpm or hit at higher rpm. You can design it in other ways. You may want an increase in power over a broad rpm range for a fixed gear. or a specific rpm range if you have a sequential gearbox like a motorcycle or car. That way you can pick an appropriate gear to keep the engine rpm in the correct chamber rpm specifications.

    I guess you just didn't show turning up your fuel? I thought that was one of the things Gordy was saying you would have to turn up if you added a port to the exhaust. Sounded great though! I could hear the difference in sputter when you rev it up for sure. I was on his site looking at the exhaust port options the other day, but I didn't see the bark box. I need to look and see if they have an option for the 261C on there. I'm wanting to do some upgrades to my Stihl 261C. Mine came with an 18" bar, and I upgraded to the 20" 0.063 gauge with the 3/8" slope. Made a big difference. Thinking about going for the 500i or bigger. I see Gordy running a 36" bar on it, but I didn't see that big of an option on the Official Stihl website. The biggest bar they showed for the 500i was a 25" bar, but seeing Gordy running the 36" bar with a full skip 0.063/3/8" bar and chain, I'm thinking the 500i is a great option for me. Great demo!

  • @allthingsmotorized1885

    @@allthingsmotorized1885 I see Gordy on Westcoast Saw use a 32" and 36" on his 500i Stihl, and I've seen him cutting Redwood trees with his. I haven't ever seen him qualify him using bigger than a 25" on his saw. I don't see them offering a bar and chain bigger than 25 until you start seeing 1,500-2,000 dollar chainsaws, but I see a lot of people using 32 and 36 inch bars on the 500i. I guess it's a warranty thing

  • @maccaspope2275

    @@comingtofull-ageinchrist6736 Most saws specs are pretty conservative when it comes to bar size. And at least where I live most chainsaws come with undersized bars. The 400 is 18" or 20", the 462 is 20" or 22", the 500 is 20"-28", and the 661 only goes up to 30" which I think is the most ridiculous one. So yeah, don't worry about what the site or the shop says, look at what the people actually using the saws are doing.

Any employer of a faller, trimmer or bucket gets his permit pulled. So we can’t use them unless you put screen between box and exhaust outlet. Has to be seen to verify.
