The 45 and 65.5 euro tickets include additional access to things on the mountain. The 25 euro ticket you purchased was just transportation to get to Montserrat but does not include basilica or museum access, the funiculars, etc. You're not being overcharged by buying through the "online companies" (in fact it's a savings compared to buying everything individually)

Thanks for your comments, but I don't agree, most people only want to visit Montserrat and the Basilica and both the cog-railway or the cable car is included in the €25 price station Espanya,In Addition, I think it is a great option for people whom don't want to pay €45-€65 and wait in long queues at the station to obtain a ticket for the barrier. Furthermore, people may not wish to take the other Funicular Santa Joan which entails longer hiking trails and may not be a great option with persons with disability and adding the basilica price which is new is still a cheaper option. I find other KZreadrs are trying to Promote these companys so they get a commission.I think honesty is the best policy the viewers to my channel should know that they have a choice either way if they wish to Visit more then they still have that option, when they get to Montserrat, So I Stand firmly behind my actions and words and your words you should choose carefully as they are backed up with little or no Knowledge of travel or educational research facts on the topic 👍

I love Montserrat and I recommend doing at least one hiking trail. The easiest one is Santa Cove. a bit bit down from the Abbey, there is a funicular or you can go down (and back up) on foot. It is not short but fully paves, wide and not to hard. At the end you'll find Santa Cova (the holly cave). the upper trail are usually harder but the views are amazing. For transport: The R5 is a regular regional/suburban line operated by FGC. As such you can also use a regular integrated transport card, you'll need one for 4 zones - this is good only for a group and only if you want to take the train. The T-familiar, a card that can be shared and includes 8 rides, so return ride up to 4 people, is 35€ for 4 zones. A return ride for 4 people will be cheaper than the train+rack railway combo (the return combo train+rack railway is 25€X4=100€ total, return just for the train for 4 with the T-familiar is 35€ + 13.5X4=54€+35€ 4 zones T-familiar = 89€ total). For 3 or less the 25€ combo is better. There is no need, and it's not possible, to prebook as it's a regular region/commuter train. BTW, The cable car option has amazing views. The funiculars up or down to the trains is (return) 16€ for the longer one up (Sant Joan) and 6€ for the shorter one down (Santa Cove) or 18.70€ for both. There are also two other combos: Trans Montserrat for 45€ that includes the train, rack railway or cable car, both funiculars (unlimited), a metro ride in the city to/from Pl. Espanya and the audio visual show. Tot Montserrat for 65.50€ - like Trans Montserrat but also includes the museum and a meal at the self service restaurant in the video. If you don't want the extras it will be a bit cheaper to get the train+rack railway/cable car combo and the funicular ones separately (just one of them or the combo for both). There is a way to go up or down on foot, which some might consider, at least on the way down. You can prebook those but you'll need to exchange the voucher for the ticket at the station during office hours (I believe 08:00 to 14"00). If you buy it from the Barcelona Turisme site you can also exchange the voucher in the tourist information offices at the airport and in Pl. Catalunya. You can do it before the day of your trip. bcnshop.barcelonaturisme.com That said, as you can see, it's easy to get the ticket at the station so not real need to prebook.

Hi @AL5520, thank you for sharing all this info. I have tried buying the combined ticket at a FGC machine, but they are only offering the 45€ option now. Do you know how I can still buy the 25€ or a cheaper option? I don't want to use the funiculars necessarily. I have tried at a machine in Gracía though, so maybe the machines in Pl. Español still have it...

@@vanessas9264 yes there should be staff attendance there and if you follow the language options and the choose train + cog railcar or rail + cable car you should get the cheaper ticket as shown .I hope this helps and do ask a attender or go to the Monnsserat help desk as shown in the video enjoy your journey I hope they have not changed the system so you can only buy the €45 ticket enjoy your trip 👍

@@vanessas9264 You can always buy at the office but you'll be limited opening hours (8am-2pm). As form the mechines, it has been a while but I think that the combo train+cog railway is with other regular tickets and not with the special touristic offers.

Such a helpful video! Questions: what are the schedules of the trains? Are you buying a return ticket of specified time or can you return any time of your choosing? What is the latest time you can return to Barcelona?

Thank you and yes the ticket is a day return so anytime return and the monastery starts shutting parts around 18.00 hours and the basilica at 20.00 so you can get a train back until around 22-00 depending on the session also summer would be busy session.I would recommend a person to go in the morning as you have all the places open and the little market stalls which are a must visit with the amazing produce.I hope this helps and you enjoy your journey 👍

This is such a wonderful video! So if I take the R5 around 8 am, looks like I can get back to Barcelona by late afternoon! Just to reconfirm the return ticket including cable car is €25????

Hi Thanks for the kind words ❤️yes the Basilica is free to visit and yes the return journey was € 25 return including the cog railway or cable car option to Montserrat as show in the video I think the price has gone up by€1-€2 but perfect if you have no interest in paying to get the funicular to hiking yes the R5 train is the one to take and going early is a great option as less busy ticket machine and train is less crowded and plenty of time to get back to Barcelona, Have a great trip it is a wonderful experience and any more help you need just ask 👍

Hi and welcome to the channel yes Tickets for Montserrat are available to buy at Espanya station.The ticket machines are after you follow the directions to the Monserrat train through the station. 👍

So do have to buy to separate tickets or is a round trip for both the train and cable car in one. I was a little confused.

Hi and Welcome to the channel 🤗 good question yes this ticket does include the rack railway or cable car option combined that is why I do not agree with other KZreadrs suggesting the Monserrat package for €45 with this you pay more have to que at the booth for your ticket I strongly suggest to purchase the ticket at the station machine as it’s way cheaper and when you get the ticket straight through the barrier at a way cheaper price hope this helps and Enjoy your trip👍

Hello, I am planning a trip to Monserrat, I ask you, are the seats not assigned when purchasing the ticket? Is there any order to get on the train, do you have to wait in lines, does it have a limited capacity so I can't take the travel time I want? This is not clear to me, what package did you buy, was it worth it?

Hi and thanks for your question there is no assigned seats so I would advise that early morning is the least busy time to travel and there is no limit capacity of course summer would be peak session so the train, cog railway and Monserrat monastery will be packed no matter what way you travel I did not buy a package I traveled from Espyna station and took the cog railway ticket and it cost €26 so only if you wish to go hiking and on board the funicular might a package deal be worth the extra €20 and as I can only recommend that early morning is certainly the best time to visit.I do hope this offers some insight and you enjoy your trip and anymore questions I would be glad to help👍

I would like to use the rack railway in one direction and the cable car the other way. Should I just buy two singles. Can I buy train/cable car tickets at Monserrat ? Thank you.

Hi and welcome to the channel What I would suggest you book the combination ticket at the station machine for the train and Cog railway and then the cable car ticket can be purchased in advance as the cable car is on a first come first serve basis if you wish cable car tickets can be purchased at tickets.aeridemontserrat.com/en/ and the price is €8-9 one way or at the station on the day. I am sure the view will be magic both journeys hope this helps and enjoy your trip 👍

Hi! If I buy the return ticket from the ticket machine in Plaza Espanya, will it be only valid for 1 day? Because I plan on staying in Montserrat for 3 days 2 nights, so Im wondering if I should just buy the 1-way ticket first rather than a return ticket. Also, are there ticket machines in Montserrat that I can buy from to go back to Barcelona?

Yes it will be valid for one day, I would buy the one way ticket as you plan on staying longer there is not much in the price difference to do this, and you have security that you will not have to pay twice as on the way back Now regarding ticket machines there is a information and ticket purchase station at Montserrat Monastery and the attendants will help you get the return ticket have no doubt they are very helpful and you will manage to get back again to Barcelona, I actually lost my ticket and even managed to get back to Barcelona and trough the exit barrier by just explaing that I did in fact lose my ticket the staff are very friendly and helpful.I do hope this helped and I might add there is also a Tourist information booth at Espana station in Barcelona, right beside the ticket booth as shown in the video they are also very knowledgeable and helpful if you wish to check it out . Enjoy your journey I guarantee the journey is breath taking 👍

How about the ticket to the Basilica to see Black Madonna? How much is it and can we buy it in advance?

Hi when I visited it was free to go into the Basilica and still is but to see the Black Madonna up close the price now is €10 and can be booked in advance at www.montserratvisita.com/en/ideas-for-your-visit/visit-the-sanctuary/2022
