Bobbie Wygant was/is the most eloquent interviewers I've ever seen - she truly is. Curious, any footage of Bobbie interviewing country music star Lynn Anderson ? If so, I'd love if you would please share.

of the three ladies, just Barbara Parkins is still alive- Tate was murdered just two years after "Valley of the Dolls" was released & Duke passed within the last few years. Lee Grant (Miriam Polar) is still alive.

I think that very distinctive and sweet voice could have made a fortune in voice over acting work. Her career never fully took off in a big way. After this she did made for TV movies. Barbara Feldon ( "99" on Get Smart) has a similar voice and did quite well with voice overs for TV commercials way into the 1980s when her acting on screens career was done . LOTA money in voice overs.

It’s hard to believe that the leave it to Beaver episode season five episode number two with Barbara Parkins as the babysitter led her forward into such a career. I identify with her and also Sherry Jackson, who I encourage you to look up as well, as they are both, sort of unexpected actresses who rose to notoriety peace.

"Not short, I'm not short". Ha! That's so funny. Not as funny as how this role was supposed to skyrocket her career, according to ole' Bobbie! It's a great film though, from the camp perspective.

I believe Ms. Parkins did see "Peyton Place" through to its end in 1969, after a five year run. She deserved to be a bigger star, IMHO.

I never saw this movie as camp. It was a melodrama at the very least. VOD is not much different then most of the movies made in the late sixties except it was a box office success. No one but the audience enjoyed it.

@@goodowner5000 Barbara Parkins was about 15 years too late to be a movie star. By the time Valley of the Dolls was released, roles for female stars in motion pictures were on the decline and had been for 10 years. By 1967 the age of the movie star was quickly coming to an end. By the late 1960's it became all about television and so Barbara became the queen of TV movies. Today, the motion picture cinema is all but dead due to not only television but the almighty streaming services. The only stars of the motion picture cinema today are kiddie heroes like spider man and such. Sad but true but one can only blame the public for that as they would rather sit home and Door Dash than go out anywhere least of all the cinema.

The truth is that Sharon Tate was perfect for the role of Jennifer. She even was nominated for a Golden Globe. The only thing I really dont like is how Patty Duke played Nelly. She was too "hight"....

Patty was perfect for Neely O’Hara. Neely needed to be over the top and very young according to the book. She kept us all from falling asleep.

Weird slightly uncomfortable interview on Parkins' part. She seems caught between wanting to be Honest, "speaking her truth" but Not completely Alienating the Bosses. Confessing that she is "bored" with her Peyton Place role could have spelled instant Pink Slip. I love Barbara's "damn classy looks" as Anne in Valley but have to admit it's a pretty "colorless" role.

I think the popularity of Valley of the Dolls was overestimated, and Parkins never made it to the stratosphere. I had heard about it for years and finally started watching it. It was so boring, I didn't finish.

the book was much better and far more engrossing than the film.. However, I do like the film and recently saw the film at a movie theatre that attracted every Valley of the Dolls fan around NYC. Seeing it on the big screen as it was meant to be seen is a far different experience. The audience loved every minute of the movie...mostly to make fun of and have a good laugh. No, I don't think anyone was bored though.

Interviews from the past with female performers & celebrities almost always seem to include personal and presumptuous questions about sex life, marital status, and family setup. Rather misogynistic, but those were the times, sadly.
