I loved the fact that she sang with her REAL VOICE. She didn't try to be an alto or something she wasn't.

She really makes every song her own. A lot of singers want to sound like someone else- She is in a class of her own.

"The" Voice of Broadway! Perfection! Johnny Mathis once said his wonderful voice teacher, Connie Cox, made him listen to male and female voices to hear how vocal production should sound, and Barbara Cook was the woman Cox chose.

Wonderful interpreter of song along with a gorgeous voice. I am reading her book "Then And Now" a memoir. She overcame a lot of insecurities and made it up the ladder to success!

An amazing performance with Cook in a great moment of her career with Wally Harper in the piano and conducted by James Levine,

Fabulous singing, and as always, you can understand every word! Yes, in Gershwin the lyrics count.

Her style was based on the natural speaking voice. So many musicians deprecate the articulation of the words.

It's sad that Barbara was not in the Movies, especially any of the Rogers and Hammerstein productions of the 195'0's. She was so pretty and a super soprano.

Barbara made screen tests for Oklahoma as Ado Annie and Carousel as Carrie. She was accepted but when Shirley Jones was cast as Laurie they wanted a famous movie star as Annie and the Oscar award winner Gloria Grahame was cast. First they wanted Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland for Carousel só Barbara Cook could have played Carrie with her Candide costar Robert Rounseville as Mr Snow. But when Shirley Jones was cast they decided to cast a popular singer Barbara Ruick as Carrie.Remember that Shirley Jones played Marian Paroo in The Music Man movie .So as Barbara sang later The role I was born to play they gave to Shirley Jones to do. Its the reason why Barbara Cook didnt make Hollywood movies A pity
