Barbados (Starring Michael Sheen, Radha Mitchell, and Ty Simpkins)

Комедия

David (Michael Sheen) is a middle class guy with middle class problems. Despite his lovely home and beautiful middle class wife (Radha Mitchell), his son Gary (Ty Simpkins) is the same, just thirty years younger. Both are looking for a way out from suburbia and all it's trappings. One Sunday lunchtime, however, when the police come knocking... David's world suddenly becomes even more claustrophobic.

I find it so hard to believe that any character played by Michael Sheen is a bad person. Like, he's such a good guy, but then this person wearing his face isn't? it doesn't compute

I hate to be the one to explain the joke to people, but I feel it is necessary from most of the comments I've seen. What the father did was NOT the joke. The joke was essentially that this kid was trying to manipulate the parents into taking him on vacation, and saw this confession as an opportunity to blackmail his dad so that he can get what he wants. This father fucked up big time, and this kid took it as an opportunity to get what he wants (blackmail). The dad has instant karma and it's kinda ironic that the dad now has to do whatever is asked of him no matter if he wants to do it from now on. His guilt makes him willing to do anything his son tells him to do, and it's kinda funny because that is how karma works. He will never get to technically consent to anything for the rest of his life to ensure his son keeps his mouth shut about what he told him. It's dark humour, and that's kinda how I interpreted it - dark humour isn't really for everyone. The point of dark humour is that it plays a lot with karma and irony and very dark topics and twists them about in a humorous manner.

Disturbing... yet fascinating... Michael Sheen is a hell (or an angel😉) of an actor. He is truly amazing. He handles subtle looks in a fantastic way, and I find him truly believable whether he plays an angel, an a**hole or a man in huge conflict with his emotions, or a bit of a stupid rockstar, or even if he is just reading the terms and conditions of a social media site. Besides he masters the art of making puppy eye looks (not here of course) 😊❤️👏👏😍😍❤️❤️

Thank you for allowing the camera to rest on his face for awhile to give Michael the time to slowly unravel the story. His face tells the story and I love not being interrupted.

Ty Simpkins' reaction is best compared to this. Michael Bluth: I just screwed my brother-in-law. Maeby: Well I'm all grown up now.

Great quality production & very suspenseful but rape should never be the subject of humor. The lighthearted ending really wasn't appropriate for such a serious issue.

Rape wasn't the focus of the humor, it was how the father's own actions and guilt set him up for his own failure, and how a seemingly sweet child is just a budding manipulator and his father was his first victim. Did you not notice how the kid was guilt tripping his parents from the beginning, citing that him not being able to go on vacation was the cause of him being bullied? That should have been a clue! It's dark comedy, it's uncomfortable, it's rooted so much more closer to reality, and it relies on its audience intelligence for it to work. If you didn't get the humor, that's on you and on your lack of comprehension. Also, the ending wasn't lighthearted, it was irony.

It’s supposed to be a more realistic take on how this situation would play out, but also dark comedy at the same time. Also, it’s not like the main character, David, is played as a good person. He’s a bad guy who has become the butt of the joke with his bad karma and bad decisions.
