@rafaelw8115 Do you think that the "Caribbean" is the same thing as the body of water called the "Caribbean sea"? It's about the lines of latitude and longitude put there by the cartographers that divided up the globe, not myself. If you have a problem with Barbados being in the Caribbean, you can take it up with those who drew the world map and placed the coordinates where they did...

Lynn, Maggots! I have never heard Ackee described in that way before😄😄. Some people think it looks like scrambled eggs when cooked. Ackee and Saltfish is the national dish of Jamaica. You should try it when you go to Jamaica. Ackee is a fruit not a vegetable and it is said to be poisonous if not cooked properly. It is not indigenous to Jamaica. It was shipped to the island from Africa (I believe Ghana).

The standard of living, salaries, and value of the Bds $ are higher than many other islands (and several African countries). If you have US $$ to spend in other islands, you get more bang for the buck, but for the nationals who use their local currency, it’s quite expensive.

In Barbados, fish cake batter is made with salted cod, chives, thyme, marjoram, scotch bonnet pepper, onion, garlic, flour, baking powder and water. The salted cod is washed and boiled to remove the excess salt, then it is shredded and mixed with the chopped herbs. The seasoned fish is stirred into the flour and baking powder, then water is added to turn the dry mixture into a thick batter. It is then dropped into hot oil to be fried into round balls. There are similar foods on the other islands with some small differences in ingredients or texture, and called by different names. Trinidad has something similar called saltfish accra and Jamaica has saltfish fritters, but the "fritters" are flat not round.

Bottle water is priced in the US by brand name, your location and season( lol) . You can purchase 40 bottles 16 oz at Costco for $3.99 + tax+ bottle deposit. So that $2 water is not a bad price . Those Cheetos for $1.50 was a good price, sure ain't 75¢ in the US .😄
