Shervin Hajipour - Baraye Lyrics
Original Lyrics
English Translation
For dancing in the alleys
For the fear when kissing
For my sister, your sister, our sisters
For changing rusted minds
For the shame of poverty
For the regret of living an ordinary life
For the dumpster-diving children and their wishes
For this dictatorial economy
For this polluted air
For Valiasr and its worn-out trees
For Pirooz and the possibility of his extinction
For the innocent banned stray dogs
For the unstoppable tears
For the scene of repeating this moment
For the smiling faces
For students and their future
For this forced heaven
For the imprisoned elite students
For the Afghan kids
For all these “for”s that are beyond repetition
For all of these meaningless slogans
For the collapse of fake buildings
For the feeling of peace
For the sun after these long nights
For anxiety and sleeping pills
For men, homeland, prosperity
For the girl who wished to be a boy
For women, life, freedom
For freedom
For freedom
For freedom

Merci

Dear Rusanda and Oliver, Yours is the most beautiful translation of Shervin's song. It touched me deep and made me cry. Thank you so, so much. As a half-Iranian pianist, with dear violinist friends, I would be eternally grateful for a copy of your arrangement. I'm happy to pay (or donate to a cause close to your hearts)... please just tell me where I can find your sheet music! In hope... and in solidarity... baraye azadi. Juliet x

this is my translation it is not word by word name of song: for the sake of name of singer: shervin hajipour ( he was arrested for posting the song on social media and forced to remove the original version and he is still in prison ) in order to dance on the alley (dancing is illegal in public in Iran and punish able by law) for the sake of fear in time of kissing (kissing and showing affection in public is illegal in Iran and punish able by law) for the sake of my sister, your sister and our sisters (referring to the treatment of women as second class citizens in Iran) in order to change the rotten ideology (referring to the bias believes in Iran toward freedom) for the sake of embarrassment of lacking or having little income (due to economical problems in Iran people don't have jobs or they receive little income for daily needs) for the sake of having a normal life (due to the archaic laws and economical hardship) for the sake of street kids and their dreams (in Iran there are many street kids that survive by scavenging food scraps from garbage bins) because of the forced economy (in Iran government change the price of goods and foreign exchange rate to force people to pay higher rates so government can rubbed them from their income) in order to stop air pollution (due to lack of natural gas the government is burning waste oil to generate electricity which cause so much pollution) for the sake of haggard trees that are on the side walk of the valie-e-asr street ( due to recent sever drought many of old trees in capital city Tehran specially valie-e-asr street are dead or dying ) for the sake of pirooz and possibility of extinction of its species ( pirooz was an astatic cheetah cub given the name pirooz meaning victories in Persian because he was the only one in the litter that survived, it was the first time there was a successful birth in captivity. unfortunately pirooz passed away at 10 month old, there only 12 static cheetah alive in Iran. side note: when I was translating this part I break down in tears because at the time of recording the music pirooz was still alive )😢😢😢😢 for the sake of condemned innocent dogs ( in recent years in Iran having dog as a house pet or owning it in general has been banned, even street dogs are killed by acid injection because Iranian government believes owning a dog as pet which is an untouchable animal represent western culture ) for the sake of constant crying (due to current situation in Iran ) because of repeat of this image at that tragic moment ( refers to watching the moment of Ukrainian airplane getting shot down by Iranian regime by father of one of the victims over and over again. side note: I almost started to cry all over again ) for the sake of the smiling face ( refers to Iranian girls hides their faces in social media due to speaking up against the government and fear of retaliation or hiding it in general due to sexist culture in Iran ) for the sake of student and their future ( at the time of writing Iranian government has poisoned many school girls at school by gas in retaliation because school girls were in forefront of demonstrations, Iranian government killed many school girls during demonstrations ) for the sake of this forced heaven ( referring to government using religion as a tool to control people in any way possible from freedom of speech all the way to the forced dress code on women in Iran ) for the sake of imprisoned geniuses ( refers to imprisonment of Iranian open minded intellectuals ) for the sake of Afghani children ( in Iran many children of Afghani heritage denied the very basic needs based on their ethnicity ) for the sake of all this and for the sake of not repeat able ( refers to tweets and hashtag of "for sake" slogan of movement which is tweeted and hash tagged over and over again but it is still refresh and new ) for the sake of all this empty slogans ( referring o school kids being forced to protest on the streets with slogans of death to America and Israel which they don't believe in it ) for the sake of statics of decaying houses ( referring to collapsing of apartments building due to being built on incorrect regulation by corrupt oligarchs of Iran to make money ) for the sake of feeling of peacefulness ( people wanting to feel in peace in the present situation of Iran ) for the sake of sunrise after long nights ( referring to the winter solstice which is celebrated in Iran, in Iranian mythology in the morning of winter solstice good wins over evil ) because of insomnia and depression pills ( people in Iran being under mental pressure ) for the sake of manhood, nation, prosperity ( the second part of movement slogan ) for the sake the girl who wished she was born as a boy ( referring to inequality between boys and girls in Iran ) for the sake of womanhood, life and freedom ( first part of movement slogan ) for freedom for freedom for freedom
