I use mine for Church security .... only these unlocked versions will connect with the other FRS radios we have. At 5 Watts when I talk everyone hears me

Nice video. But, your phone or laptop camera has an option to flip the video so it is not backwards.

OK! I gave you some c*** on a previous video for using the Baofang because they were cheap and not as good as Icoms and Yaesu. But, I was wrong. I recently purchased 2, and I'm liking them so far. I could buy the complete Baufueng radio set of two, for what it would cost me to buy one and a half replacement batteries for my Icom IC-T81A, However, I did find that they are not "legal" for use on GMRS or FMRS in the US.

Both of my UV-5R’s never say “FACTORY”. They just show “WELCOME” instead. Did the menu RESET but even after that.. no FACTORY appears. Just WELCOME. Was there a change that prevents this now??

GMRS? what you looking to do, what do you want out of these radios? I use them as VERY powerful 2 way radios, on GMRS freq, I obtained a licence for $35, no test, and its good for my whole group for 10 years. These are reliable out to 2 miles, over hills, valleys and bad weather so far. They are CLEAR and cheap, very happy!

nothing happens when i do thins, i've a newer uv-5r gmrs model

If I would have had this in my teens I would have been a certified menace our PD operated on the 150mhz range. 😂 Back in the late 90s I turned my old UHF/VHF tv into a scanner just by opening the back and turning an adjustment screw back or forth😂

@BaaSicStuff here is info might be helpful. It's my understanding , based on reading / other videos similar too this; need update software on radio (haven't done this myself personally. Not yet anyway), as is needed to access 220 ham radio frequencies. Planing to do this sometime soon hopefully. I don't have cable for radio to connect to computer.

I don't think this works, tried several times. My screen kinda comes on and I hear a clicking sound every 2 seconds. Screen doesn't fully come on until I release the buttons.

its kind of weird, I think pushing the buttons all at the same time, as directed, is a bit finicky. Those with small hands have issues ...... took me 3 tries, then it worked....looking back I was not holding all the buttons right

Will this unlock dmr capacity?

I factory reset my UV-5R as per instructions. The screen said "Factory". But i STILL can not listen to anything outside 136-174 Mhz And 400-480 Mhz. What gives? Even some channels inside the range results in "cancel" message..

@@suprlite I may do a short on privacy codes and repeater use; its so easy to connect but when I first started I was so lost. If in Southern CA repeaters are awesome, you can talk for MILES!

For the life of me, I can't get this to work. I'm pressing all 3 buttons at the same time. Just keeps saying channel the mode. 😢 Any suggestions?

Yes, here is suggestion, Don't press all buttons all same time, but press 'each' button in the same order as mentioned in video.

It takes a few tries. At least it did for me now I can do it without even thinking about it, but the first couple times I did it. I didn’t press one of the buttons. I guessed hard enough.

Ive done that....if you have someone that has a Motorola radio that has a speak feature blocked you cant talk. Its like police/Fire that have there channel blocked...thank....

Yes, match frequencies, I recommend using GMRS Freq, Simplex mode. If I had 7 radios I can match them all in 5 min and pass them out. Dont waste money on antennas and stuff

Match the frequencies, but it won't be private, but honestly these wont go over a mile unless on a repeater so no one will hear you. Getting some GMRS radios sent to me soon, these should be nice!

The Baofeng UV-5R radio usually covers the following frequency ranges: VHF (Very High Frequency): 136.000 MHz to 174.000 MHz UHF (Ultra High Frequency): 400.000 MHz to 520.000 MHz

when you buy yours? Sounds like you have a newer one... I suggest contacting Radioddity and asking them which models will unlock and buying those. Plus they sell them the cheapest

​@@jodesbois2491 When on frequency mode by pressing, vfo/mr, button. Press the, band, button to switch from vhf to uhf. Or u can monitor both frequencies at once. By having one, frequency/channel, on vhf. And the other set to uhf. Hope this helps. I'm still learning myself. Also the firmware in mine may be different. As i live in Scotland. So different law's etc, may apply?

I guess it has no filters so it can transmitt at all frequencies

try again, I imagine you're not pushing the buttons all equally. My first couple tries....nothing, now, I got it, I can go back and forth, restoring the factory restriction if needed before the FCC shows up ...that last [part was being sarcastic

2013 models weren't locked. You can already transmit on all the frequencies the radio is capable of.

I have a 48" antenna for my kit, its about a 5 mile range with mountains and up to around 20 or more on flatter terrains, a bit quieter at longer distance but understandable

Range depends on terrain. Tall buildings/heavy trees, etc. will limit to possibly only a few hundred feet. Open planes or atop two mountains will be line of sight, so virtually unlimited range

This isn't working for the beofeng UV-5R I just purchased

And that's how a Hutterite Colony got busted by the FAA and fined $30K for transmitting with farm tractors to a Boeing 737...

It might already be unlocked. One of mine came pre jailbroken, didn't say "factory" when I did it. Try transmitting to a buddy's to see if it works.

Firmware versions in the last couple of years dont expand without certain CPS software and a PC. Forget Baofeng get the new Quanshang UV5R plus. 6 bands out of the box and reflashable for more, and about the same money

Yep, but if you get caught transmitting on any unlicenced frequency or band, and unless you are an Amateur radio operator, you are in for one very large fine.

no you "can" its not legal on some of them so I advise knowing the radio. I have a GMRS licence, so I can on many of the best frequencies, with all the FRS frequencies also. In an emergency I also have HAM repeaters loaded, these HAM Repeaters go even farther but require a licence in NON emergency situations.

That might be illegal to do I was hearing a police thing and I said hola dunno if I did something wrong or not but did not do this mod

Most popular radio on the market today, so you are most likely not looking for what the UV5 offers. So its not the worse just not right for your needs. At $21 8 Watts, its one of the most powerful GMSR/two way radios on the market if not the most powerful.

So let me get this straight I can talk to someone in another state but can’t talk to my wife in a situation where I do not have cell service with out breaking a “law” because they pretty much want a tax stamp to press a button ? Am I misunderstanding something or does a basic Walmart radio work better ? Because it’s not like the FCC can track my signal lmfao
