    The Nagoya whip works equally well most of the time as the tape measure deal. I have no way to test other than checking reception and haven’t transmitted with either yet at any real long range but I receive almost no difference in vhf just a slight improvement and essentially no difference on uhf.

    It's a Slim Jim... its great antenna. About 30 bucks on ebay.... Furthest I've made contect is 30 miles!

    What cables would you use to connect a Baofeng to a Yagi antenna ? what adapters and converters ? I tried buying something but it didn't fit.

    The baofeng uses an SMA, so you'll need an SMA adapter to what ever the yagi is. often the are BNC mine is a homebrew with the PL-259.

    Yes! They do. The model i have is the tram 1185. Just remember to also buy an sma adapter for the feed line! Also, I find it easier to use an extended mic while in the car.

    Ebay... just search for roll up jpole.. there R a few makers. Should be around $30

    in the field I like to carry two lengths of RG-58, 50 Ohm as well to build antennas. a 6' and 25' length both with BNC connectors.... hopefully that helps.

    im wondering what the maximum length of coax cable i can use to connect my 5w radio to the slim jim antenna? Id like to mount the slim jim on my roof and run a coax to my office about 15 feet

    15 feet should be fine... would not go over 30ft.

    And the vehicle I bought has a ham radio antenna but no ham radio I wanted to be able to hook up the handheld to that antenna as well

    @@My_selfreliance.freedom yeah, not problem at all. the SMA Female To BNC Female Adapter works for most DIY antennas. and the SO239 to SMA will work for most vehicle antennas. Hope this helps.
