Banzai Run Pinball Review!

From 1988 here's a look at Williams Pinball Banzai Run! Designed by Larry DeMar and Pat Lawlor! It was Pat's first design at Williams. He knew he needed to make an impact with his first game so he decided to go big with a second playfield on the backbox. Because of this backbox the game is notorious to maintain and not many places will offer the game on location. (Even at Pinball Hall of Fame in Las Vegas they had discussions about having it on due to fixing the machine)
The game is pretty simple. Your job is to be the king of the mountain in the Banzai Run Supercross Championship. You need to first hit the set amount of targets to light each of the four other racers, then if you can get the ball into the upper playfield then you need to defeat them by shooting the set shots. If you can do this you'll start the two ball multiball where both playfields active! It gets pretty crazy and I've only done it a few times. Tying to get the jackpot is a challenge because you need to keep both balls in play to get it via the upper playfield!
If you ever do see a working Banzai Run in your travels, make sure you give this one a play! Big thanks to my buddy Dave for hosting me!

I played this as a kid in the game room at Woodloch Pines in the Poconos. The second play field blew my mind, because I thought it was just decoration at first. But when the magnet comes down and picks up the ball to put you in the upper play field - what an incredible moment of wonder and excitement that I'll never forget. Watching this video was great especially because I forgot all about the SOUNDS of the game, which now I'm noticing are incredible. The fact that the music changes and gets more suspenseful when you get to the upper playfield is such an amazing touch. Totally forgot about the announcer and the incredible "BANZAAAIIII!" One day, if I ever make a lot of money, I would love to own this game. Thanks for this video!

+Renaud Dorval Dave has a Big Guns right next to the Banzai Run in his lineup. He sold off almost all of his video games to make more room for pins. He's planning on a Williams Taxi next.

Really cool game, I doubt I'll ever get a chance to play one. I bet arcade operators weren't too cool with it seeing as I'm sure it was more expensive than your usual pinball machine and it's probably a nightmare to maintain and repair the way it was made.

You might not have known, but you can trap the ball as the ball ejects towards the very top flipper.
