    That last bull was a monster. The wild bovids like the aurochs of Europe were magnificent animals according to historical accounts. I find the subject fascinating.

    It's also fascinating that Banteng and Gaur occupy the same environment. They are very similar species. As auroch and wisent which lived together in European forests

    How this two similar species Banteng and Gaur coexist in the same environment. I reckon they occupy similar niche. Makes me wonder how a few centuries ago auroch and wisent coexisted in European forests

    The best way of appreciating the wild life is to see and hear. The video is very good, no doubt about that, but completely spoilt by the music. Why could You not keep the beautiful forest background sounds ? Anyone ever read Jim Corbett's books will love to hear the jungle sounds. Do You have the original version with natural sounds ?

    We humans have a tendency to forget that, all our livestock came from the wild. It's also true that by cross breeding, new species have been created .

    I've heard (herd?) that it's the opposite. Bison bulls display behavior that unnerve cattle. The reciprocal hybrid (domestic bull × bison cow) is much more common.

    You are correct, both species are classified within the genus Bibos, which also contains the kouprey, Bibos is a genus of cattle native to Southern Asia, there are three extant species within this genus, the Kouprey (Bibos sauveli), the Banteng (Bibos javanicus (cladistically including the Bali Cattle (Bibos javanicus domesticus))), and the Gaur (Bibos gaurus (cladistically including the Gayal/Mithun (Bibos gaurus frontalis))), it is known that the Gaur (Bibos gaurus) is the type species of this genus, Bibos is also hinted to be the most basal extant genus of true cattle (subtribe Bovina).

    That big bull in the end could well be a hybrid. Male gaurs readily mated, in the past, with domestic cows in heat left tied to the trees and stakes in India. The hybrid thus born is called a Mithun. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aJaNk6d_opaoqLg.html

    You are mistaken, mithuns are the domesticated version of Gaur. Mithuns are to Gaur what cattle are to aurochs or domesticated water buffaloes (bubalus bubalis) is to Asian wild buffaloes (bubalus arnee). Mithuns are descendants of gaurs not a cross between cattle and gaur.

  • @igorasimovic

    @igorasimovic

    @@elhombredeoro955 Buddy do some research! Mithuns originated as hybrids but now due to the Gaur being extinct in Naga Land they can be considered a breed. But they have a lot of zebu blood in them. The shape of their horns is a testament to that. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gayal. doi.org/10.1016%2FS1673-8527%2807%2960045-9. CITATIONClose [6] Payne, W. J. A.
