Bannerlord Tactics: Custom Battles, Volume V: Battania Vs. Pretty much Anyone

Alright folks, we're continuing another series of instructional videos here hopefully demonstrating tactics in an environment similar to what you might be facing in your own campaign, that is to say, without my elite 8th corp, my elite beast of a character and my advanced army. In this series we'll take on our enemies outnumbered, usually on the enemy 'home turf' and try and win battles with tactics despite the long odds. If you like this series, check out the playlist(coming soon), and I'll load more up in the future. If you have specific requests, always ask!
Today we'll cover my general formation setup for Battania that has lead to success is most situations. Not all, but it's a highly successful, defensive formation, with some interior movement. If there are specific custom battles you'd like me to try, let me know. I have a diabolical new tactic to show using Vlandia soon, so stay tuned!
Please comment, like and subscribe if you're interested in more of my ultra-late-game campaign, that may end up ending in utter despair, but that's the challenge of it. Any challenge where success is assured is no challenge at all.
My campaign is an extremely late-game campaign where I am resolved to give no peace to these scum Kingdoms attacking me - seven of the eight have been at war for years, with only Sturgia at a neutral stance. My family of warriors is now large though and with what remaining strength and valor we can must, we stand against the map of Calradia.
Join me on this adventure if you like huge battles, the use of advanced tactical maneuvers and intense Bannerlord gameplay, and subscribe to my channel if you want to follow along. This campaign is very lightly modded:
I use four mods:
Lord Retinue Uptier(Makes the enemy forces stronger, much less peasants and lower ranked troops)
www.nexusmods.com/mountandbla...
Improved AI Troops(Also makes enemy lords and their armies tougher by giving them a higher daily xp rate. This means you'll routinely face armies with HUGE numbers of the highest tier units, sometimes four or five times the normal amount in vanilla Bannerlord): www.nexusmods.com/mountandbla...
Death for all: This mod allows you to set the rate at which nobles die more often. I want both a harder challenging late-game but also a more realistic game. If you're cut down with a massive aserai two-handed axe, you shouldn't just be injured 99.9% of the time. It's a very customizable mod so you can just a little more death or set the death rate so high you get several deaths every battle. The number I often like is '10', some deaths but not a massacre of nobles...
www.nexusmods.com/mountandbla...
I also use the Dismemberment Plus Mod: It's highly customizable and works seamlessly with the new beta(and versions back to 1.28). I thoroughly recommend it if you enjoy carnage!:
steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...
I've also used Realistic Battle Mod in the past and highly recommend it for Ai and battle realism BUT I find the pace too slow for my taste and the AI is actually rather predictable after a half dozen battles. Still I wanted to put a plug in for it here, it's a GREAT mod and highly configurable. www.nexusmods.com/mountandbla...
Much of the music and inspiration for this and other videos in the channel are inspired by Epic History TV - probably THE best channel on youtube(and the internet for that matter) covering the Napoleonic wars. With amazing work Epic History TV takes you through the dramatic and incredibly story of Napoleon covering all of his most famous battles. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Thank you sir, these custom battles have actually been a nice break from the ruinous and brutally difficult campaign I'm in. 450 vs 550 seems easy after the maulings and huge enemy forces I've dealt with lately!

I've always like Battania but I never understood how to use their troops. Awesome video!

Thanks, that's for sure the idea: something that is readily adoptable by players wanting to get better with Battania. Goodluck!

Good vid. Had to chuckle at "not great in melee," though. Fians are some of best melee troops in the game! But generally, archers aren't great in melee, true. I wonder if Battania could make use of their melee skills more. I've messed around with mixed infantry/archer groups in the past, and I've seen archers firing from behind a shield wall that they wre in before. Are there ways to get those Fians into the melee while still using their ranged skills? Especially early game, I could imagine rushing wildlings and fians straight into a fight. If the enemy tries to reposition, they get shot to pieces. I've been enjoying trying out your elevated tactics, but sonetimes you just wanna be a barbarian haha

It's a bit of a spoiler for future episodes, but I have both experimented with aggressive, square-walled sharpshooters(Vlandian), leading into battle, then later in the fight, using their crossbow, and I've also started using Fians behind shield wall charging troops as berserkers once they are out of ammo. Great fun! There IS a use for mixed groups, but I think mostly as an elite reserve unit where most have javelins or arrow/xbow, but also very competent melee skills(fians), so that if they are approached, they can just start fighting it out. I love how much variety there is in the game and (almost) endless possibilities to try. Even today I added a cool new tactical trick to my tool bag that I'll share down the road.

Maybe so... Maybe they could just lower their two-handed and bow skill a notch and it would be balanced...

That said, I ran some custom battles last night with Vlandia Vs. Battania and with a new formation and tactic I am trying, we decimated the Battanians and mangled their Fians.

@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions their armor too are something. The fact that they start directly as archers makes them easy to level up as well.

That is true too! I'm running a few more custom battles today, in particular Aserai vs. Battania because my next campaign is going to be with the Aserai, so I am curious what I can manage against 50% battanian archers/fians...@@clauseblitz4682

@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions If you go with Aserai maybe you should try a party with 30% or 50% mamluk palace guards. It'll still be challenging but if you manage to close the distance fast maybe you could win (I never tried that myself to be honest).
