Whoever this song was for , severely hurt Banks but she was willing to forgive everything if only they just apologized the right way. She found her self worth by letting him go but she can admit she would’ve stuck around a little longer if they’d just put their pride to the side . She knew she was dealing with someone that had a way with words but she started catching onto the lies , she was willing to let this person pacify her with lies but she couldn’t live a lie anymore....

the violin at the end is so mournful and makes me hit replay every time just to hear it again. this song is so heartbreaking. I'm not ashamed to say I've cried hearing it again and again. I love it but it hurts, even more than Under The Table makes me cry.

I know that most of the commenters here are half my age, but let me just say that anyone, any age, who loves music, has to appreciate a person like Banks. My daughter( a teenager at the time ), first turned me on to Banks, and I fell in love with her music immediately. It’s not just what she says in her songs, but a combination of that with her voice, the lyrics, the layers of sound production. Part of me wants her to experience commercial success, but another part is afraid it will make what’s so special about her-that intimate connection with her music-somehow disappear.

The climax of the song literally sounding like crashing waves is symbolically tied to the lyrics of it coming crashing down, also wiping away starting fresh. My thoughts when listening idk maybe it just sounds like giberish.

if you listen to Warm Water, Drowning then this song, its the most painful thing ever.

I just feel like leaving this comment here: I discovered Banks in December of 2018. I cant express how much her musics done for me. I feel so silly writing this, cause I don't know how to phrase it or put it into words properly, but everything she creates has something to it that just touches me so deeply. I used to listen to the Alter and Goddess Non Stop until III came out and I still appreciate her so much as an artist. Its just mesmerizing honestly. I know that this song is probably about a romantic relationship, but listening to it feels like reliving what me and a close friend of mine had.I don't know its so comforting, listen to this every time im lonely, feel out of place or whatever. I literally just wanna talk to Banks one day to thank her.

He never apologized. Some people can't bring themselves to admit when they've done someone else wrong..... or they don't truly see the error of their actions because they're too busy worrying about their own needs. It hurts to know you're not worthy of an apology. I did see him change some of his ways, which maybe is better than an empty apology... but still.... Some things can't be brushed aside or forgiven without a truthful conversation- no matter WHAT that truth is- or no matter how badly you want to be with them. I would be abandoning myself, my needs and my self worth if I continued with him. If someone truly loves you they wouldn't ask you to do that to yourself. I'm having a shit time with my best friend/boyfriend, writing in my diary trying to collect my thoughts for what I think will be our final break up, as I cannot do it anymore. This song came on as I wrote in my diary, "I don't know how to say what I'm feeling other than, it felt like we were one, *like water* , but now Its too deep, too dark, too unsure, and I'm giving up" ......its magic that this song came on as I wrote that.
