Bank Fishing A Public Pond With Ultralight Gear!

Ойын-сауық

I had some free time so I decided to hop in the car and head to a local park. This park gets quite a bit of foot traffic which ultimately translates to fishing pressure in the public pond attached to it. Despite the consistent fishing pressure, I have had success here in the past, so I figured it was worth a visit.
I grabbed my ultralight rod and Donkey Tail Jr and set to work. Overall, I was able to successfully land several fish across numerous species. I was mostly catching smaller fish but eventually found a really solid Bluegill. Personally, I feel that if you fish with ultralight gear at locations which get a lot of bank fishing pressure, you are usually better off and will get more bites throughout your trip.

    I love your sheer and absolute positivity while on camera, and how transparent you are about time. Most fishing channels focus way too much on competitive angling, and waking up at the break of dawn to try to catch bigger fish, but recognising how fun the little things can be is a breath of fresh air. Thank you for the content you make, the world (or at least fishing youtube) is better for it.

    I think an idea for a rod video might be a return to your roots... how do rods like a daiwa presso and 13 fishing defy feel after spending so much time on the yamaga, phenix, daiwa kages, and dobyns? The journey has surely changed you and returning to where you started for a video or two might be fun. :)

    I definitely intend to do more rod videos checking in on what I like / don't like. I still love the Defy Silver for around 50 bucks and the 4pc Presso is impossible to beat for portability.

    Great info and a successful day packed into a solid video. I can appreciate the advice and sharing. Even if you've been fishing for many years or UL fishing is new to you it's great to hear the tips. Natural colors come into play a bit more with the fall cool off. I've got a few more ultralight crankbaits custom painted to send your way Ethan. Thanks for sharing

    Ultralight bank fishing! That's my jam right there! I went out with my kiddo the other day and went a bit big with a 3/32oz red Mule jig with a white 3.2" Mule Minnow and landed bass, warmouth, crappie, and a rio grande cichlid (🚫) in no time. Great video of a quick trip to the bank!

    Sometimes you just have to be more persistent then the fish lol. Last time out they were short striking my pasture fire donkey tail jr unfortunately I didn’t have any more colors so i tried white and pink trout magnets and wasn’t even getting short strikes. Swapped to a yellow crickhopper and started catching the bluegill. Swapped to a 3” yum Dinger with a tiny Texas rig hook and caught a few bass. Multiple trips out before that they were tearing up the pasture fire donkey tail jr 🤷‍♂️

    Wondering if you could help me with figuring out good line or line combination for my ultralight setup? I'm new to ultralight fishing, I have a TFO 6"6 UL paired with a shimano vanford 1000, I been using a 1/32 oz head with a donkey Jr, line sunline super mono 4lb wasn't getting the best distance, then switched to sufix 131 G Core 6lb to 4lb colpoly trilene sensation, still not seeing a big improvement. Maybe go to a 3lb mono? Appreciate any suggestions

    I’d go for spro finesse braid, Daiwa j braid x8 grand, or a 2lb copolymer option. I’ve heard great things about Phenix iron feather but I haven’t tried my spool yet so I can’t say for sure.

    Hey I am new to the channel and UL fishing and love the content. I was wondering if I could ask for your feedback on the setup I'm looking at. Shimano Vanford 1k on a Phoenix Mirage. I was initially looking at the Elixir, but based off comments from your video on it, I am highly considering the Mirage now. I'll mostly be getting small bass and blue gill. My favorite bait is the Burkley power worm (white).

    Hey Ethan got another question. Now that it it starting to get colder the fish here are starting to slow down. What size jig, baits, and colors would you recommend. Thanks again God bless and tight lines

  • @FishAnything

    @FishAnything

    8 ай бұрын

    Yo Caleb! Definitely go with more natural colors, such as green pumpkin, ranch hand, etc. I also would suggest the slowest rate of fall you can get away with. If the water really gets cold, you may consider a “float and fly” style application. Just run a mule jig under a slip float and fish it slower around cover.
