Bank customers report unexpected account freezes
A growing number of bank customers are having their accounts shut down without much warning or explanation, leaving them without access to their money. On Your Side's Kristine Lazar spoke with a local man whose tweet about the experience went viral last week.

I had my account closed at a credit union, months later they said it was a mistake, but only after one of their employees verbally accosted me on social media and said she would have her friends come after me and for being an old white guy, but then the credit union sponsored a competing company than the one I own. Luckily I almost never used that account.
Locking an account and give no explanation to the customer as to why he doesn’t have access to his OWN money is ridiculous and it should be against the law. It’s time these financial institutions are held accountable for shady things like this 😡 It took this guy to on social media and go viral, get the news media’s attention and this is the only reason why his account was released, otherwise he would still be out there without his money…😡😡😡

Funny how at the end of the story they happen to mention that someone else was using his identity for fraudulent activity. Sorry, but it is entirely reasonable to shut down an account possibly related to fraud while they are doing an investigation. Banks are doing what they are required to do by law

I got involved in this immediately because, well I have to be honest, I just didn't want Her moving into my place if the bank continued to refuse to help. My personal experience with Bank of America at the time is that I was dealing with the Gustapo or with the KGB. They absolutely refused to budge, and they could give a s*** about her plight. Eventually they will force everyone to go digital (hand writing on the wall). Then every month Americans should start a new hobby at the end of every month, printing out a copy of their monthly statements to be put in a legal envelope, each year put in a legal box with all printed out paid state, local & federal tax documents. Of course, each paper doc is in a monthly “digital” folder inside an annual zip file on a hard drive and on a flash drive. I know, it sounds paranoid, but it’s prudent to have legal proof of everything and if you want, you can always disclose you too are also recording all calls for compliance and quality control of your accounts, and keep multiple location records of those, too. After all, if you ever run afoul of a litigious dark triad entity, you will need to protect yourself to the highest level imaginable.🤑

I knew where it would lead. So keep enough funds to pay bills in a few different accounts and hope when they do this kind of thing, it’s just one bank at a time. A debit is simply a digital check, so only use it where there would not be a dispute of merchandise you take into your possession. Understand all banking and commerce law, like you get tested on it every six months, and understand which entities are covered by federal and state banking regulations. Credit cards are ok, but since they all went to Delaware, Wyoming & South Dakota for a reason, make sure you understand your rights under the issuing state. Helps to be meticulous when it comes to documents and banking law and procedures inside the U.S. government agencies, and understand how oversight inside them is initiated.
