Bank Crabbing Netarts Bay

Спорт

I head to Netarts Bay to do some solo crabbing. I hope you enjoy watching as we learn about the bay and what areas to target depending on the tide.

I'm just encountering this video... Great job! I wish I had been able to give you tips before you hit this bay from shore! Happy Camp is really only good for crabbing low slack to incoming tide on the days when the tidal coefficient is low. The higher the shift in tides, (higher coefficient) will have lots of the crab buried in the sand, waiting until the current isn't ripping as hard. That bigger push of water means less moving in and out of the channel leading to the ocean. Crab snaring is even better further West of where you were hanging out. There is a very small creek emptying into the mouth of the bay (Fall Creek) you'll see it when you come to it. Most of the time it is pretty tame but there are times when rainfall has been heavier that it will be wider. I typically cross it and snare into the channel there. There are some deep pockets that typically result in excellent Dungeness. I use shad, squid, anchovies, sardines, and razor clam for bait in the snares. The spot you were crabbing next to the boat ramp will typically bring you more red rock because of the rocky terrain under water there. If you move down to the south of the boat ramp, you'll see next to the roadway, a deep channel that runs about 200 yards(?) that is a great spot for snaring. And, as you know, nothing beats crabbing there from a boat. Thanks for the great video! It inspired me to break out of my crabbing dry spell and get back out there ASAP!

Cool video highlighting the area. Do you recall where you stayed overnight? Did you try any night crabbing?

No I didn’t. Talked to a few people and they said it’s a lot of fun and pretty productive.
