Bang & Olufsen Beomaster 6000 Playback Test

Ғылым және технология

I was asked by a friend to repair their B&O Beomaster Amplifier / Receiver. Bang & Olufsen used a motorized mechanism via rubber belts to adjust the controls for Volume / Bass / Treble and Balance on this amp, through the actuation of the buttons on the front console. These belts stretch over the years and get hard, which affects the functionality of these controls. It's a bit of a fiddly exercise to remove the belts as it requires the removal of the clutch / pulley shaft, which is attached to a motor / gear reduction mechanism, as well as the black display ribbons. Each belt has to be removed through a small gap between the potentiometers with tweezes. Their were also a number of globes that needed replacement as well. The unit is now reassembled and all the control functions are now fully operational. Have a look at the video. Also take a look at my pictures here :- www.flickr.com/photos/42434267....

Wow, I know B&O makes some amazing stuff, but this is one of the most beautiful receivers I've ever seen.

I bought replacement globes from Bulbtown on the Internet, search for globe model number 2722. The bulbs work in series like christmas lights so if one fails then a number of them go out at the same time. Replace all the faulty globes with these and you should have it all working properly again :-).

First of all, I really must say i appriciate your work :-) I bought two of these i was hoping to have made into one fully working system. Unfortunatly I was told the rubber clutch at the volume button was deteriated. Did you replace it on your system, and if, what did you use instead since i guess an original sparepart is out of the question?

The rubber clutch for the function controls looks just like a rubber tube inserted on the motor shaft that drives these controls. I have pictures of it on my flickr account. I've put the link in the description above as KZread doesn't allow links in the comments section.

I bought a unit like this today. It sounds great and everything seems to function well. The complete left side of the display however stays black (no lights burning for volume, treble, bass and both balance indicators white dials + red dot). Right side has all the lights burning except the indicator for Phono. Do you have any advise how to fix this?

I used the headphone output in the front to capture the sound (you can see the cable at the bottom right of the video frame). B & O used DIN sockets which were common amongst European audio components of that era. DIN connectors aren’t as common as RCA connectors in other parts of the world hence the reason I used the headphone socket.

All that you need to do is replace the belts. Have a look for the link to my pictures on flickr under the description above to see what i did.
