Bandsaw magic. How to make a 3D reindeer . Woodworking projects that sells. Christmas in July

Today I will show you how to make this cute 3D reindeer from a scrap piece of wood. This is a very simple project that sells well. Also it make a great Christmas gift for your loved ones. Woodworking is so much more fun with a friend. Today I had a visitor, Sandrine from Studio Artisane. She is the one that introduced me to woodworking in November 2022 when I took one of her woodworking classes. #harveybandsaw #woodworkingprojects #christmas

6:15 When using the spindle sander you can use a few pieces of scrap plywood to use the entire sandpaper roll. Clamp them on the table so you raise the surface. You always wear the lower part the most. Just a tip for using it all. 😉

I have made them in large size. Also from Workshop companion, I just upscaled them. I've made a couple in 26" and 31" from a glulam beam from my house. I had a 9 ft piece of 8x9 from when we remodeled, i didn't want to waste it. The bigger you make them the easier it is. 🙂

Great video. Good idea using that flexible attachment when sanding the reindeer. Much lighter than holding the rotary tool.

Nice work! I've made a few sets of those myself. One thing you can do to mix it up: on some of the reindeer, instead of cutting the big hole for the legs, you just cut it straight off and it will look like those reindeer are laying down.

Nice video. I have this pattern also and just finished cutting out 55 but they are not multi-species wood, each is only cherry, maple or poplar. I sand with a spindle and belt sander but it sure takes time. I’ll have to try the Odie’s Oil. I created a template and trace onto the board so I don’t have to cut out so many patterns. I also just use the bandsaw to cut out the upper instead of using the forstner bit, saving more time. I do like the nose, antlers and hooves being contrasting woods.

Cute Deer, turned out great, I think you pretty much need that flexible shaft to do fine work with a Dremel that big..........I picked up a couple new hand sanders this week, one old one died and I replaced that then they had a different style half off so I grabbed that too. The next sander on the list in the Oscillating Sander, what model is yours? I remember you said you really like it.

4:00 I see the band saw is tuned nicely. How do you set up your band saw? My 10" Rikon drives me bananas. Is is a chore to get a 1/4" blade to track, and a 1/8" blade will not track. The blades rush to the edge of the wheels, or walk right off!

  • @woodworkingwithSkyler

Funny: my 3/16, 1/4 and 1/2 inch blades are super easy to tune. The 3/4 one I am struggling with. I put the gullet of the tooth right in the middle of the blade

@@paceves4403 I am going to call Rikon. Thanks for the encouragement. I committed the crime of fiddling with the lower wheel, despite the warning not to. Incidentally, Jet (or Grizzly, I forget which) uses a straight edge to align the wheels. The Rikon frame interferes with a straightedge, though.

You said in a video that you got CA on your hands and it annoyed you for a week. Are you aware of CA debonder? It will penetrate the glue and weaken it so you can get it off your fingers and also will allow you to reposition your work it you make a mistake. When debonding wood you'll have to let it dry out before using CA again though, this is where a heatgun will come in handy. CA debonder comes in a green cap. I enjoy your videos.
