I also expected a better battle from Valley. I saw them in the BOTB at the beginning of the year and I was looking forward to this battle. However, Dr. Little has his foot on the gas and he is not letting up for anyone. Dr. Little is not taking it easy on anyone. If you are going against the BOOM you had better be on top of your game because Dr. Little is coming with sound, musicality, arrangements, technique & style as well as execution that you can only get from the BOOM. I love to see Dr. Little & Travis get hyped because that rubs off on the band and the crowd. They are unmatched!!!!!💙🤍💙🤍

Man shout out to Jackson State for shaking up the whole SWAC hierarchy!!! Love them (STILL SU ALL DAY!!) Funny thing is I saw a trumpet player for Valley last Friday before the game and was like man hope y'all do well. But just thinking about the answer he gave when I asked are they ready......it was like a forced yeah like we know who we got coming tomorrow. Gonna be honest, I think they're still in the honeymoon stage of being this size. Hopefully they put in the work and not get comfy cuz this ain't it!!! WTBS, Looking forward to this BoomBox BOTB!! Hopefully SU has been eating!! 💛💙

MVS 2nd song was nice - But it's a battle of quality vs name/ quantity... I like the slide notes from the trombones!

MVSU will be okay just give them time. 3/4s of the band are freshmen. They will continue to grow and get better. They just hired an assistant to assist Dr. Bonds.

Did you see the clip of the terrible start to a song for Valley when the Boom about to do a trombone fanfare? Valley sounds like a high school that can't decide if they want to copy JSU or SU. The song sounds like nothing, then they will all the sudden start punching. I don't remember Valley ever having upper brass. How do you skate on Africano?

The bottom line is…Everyone should be proud Valley has gotten better…we all praised them for anything they did when they had 30 people but it’s sad to see people disrespecting them now

Im just glad valley got the numbers back up.. state of Mississippi is back powered up! The boom is a grown Azz MAN though!

Valladega is inexperienced in 5th quarter battles, but that was the smallest part of the problem in this performance. The intonation, unbalanced highs and lows, wrong voicing remindsme of Talladega and txsu in certain years past, overblowing to the point the rhythm notations are bleeding over the melody, no musicality, and for a band is like no soles on a shoe, no focus, no discipline, no leadership. Because of the way they kept playing bad music after the battle was lost. Last but not least arrangements was middle school/high with reharmonization, voice leading, chord progressions, whole notes that bleed over the melody, no stamina, attacks and releases on melodic lines throwing the balance off, (song selection and song choice was questionable trash for a musical battle) 😢 Msvs gets a 2/10 from me. Would have been less than 2, but they at least came in uniform. 😅

Word-up to the Boom (sometimes you got to take it back to Old School)!! Double-clap to Mississippi Valley for showing up (always encourage our young folks)!! Also, as for Recruitment tape, Yep!! But somebody got to tell these Fresh that they "may" not come out the gate playing with the Boom in their first year; with all the talent from the upper classmen, no. But Freshmen, especially if you are on scholarship, then don't worry about it; just keep practicing, and hanging out, you have 3 more years to get your turn. But throw the young Freshmen cymbal dude out there, you know who I'm talking about, the Mexican/White dude. Also, can someone tell DR LITTLE and the JSU Band to play "MAGIC MIND" again before the season is over. You guys need to go back and listen to that song, I think it was the 2nd game for JSU, I thought I was going to lose my mind; every section sounds great!! I went to the Week 0 game, in Atlanta, and I was sitting two seats next to the Tubas, I didn't know we would be sitting that close until I got there. But I had a blast. Continue jamming JSU.

Damn good battle...I love JSU but Valley wasn't just laying down...they was fighting a titan...n Valley trumpets was going..idk why u said the high brass wasn't giving..if anything it was they lower brass that was kinda weak

JS bottom puts them over the top ALL THE TIME!

KB I guess you're gonna have to pay Valleys director a visit to let them know whassup. They were trying but it came to naught unfortunately. Better luck next time.

I would say certain sections are but there are some HS bands that could hang with Valley IJS. It's well into the season and they should definitely sound better than what they presented at this battle.
