Thanks gamester81! Really cool of you to redo it for the Audio and your dedicated fans! (Me!). Awesome review, thx John
Great review John! You really covered the system well and did good comparisons vs other systems to give a sense of scale, including the cartridges. That is a nice touch. Regarding the WonderSwan, it getting the market share you mentioned at the start of your video was quite an accomplishment considering how poorly everybody else who challenged Nintendo in the portable market fared.
I love your videos man, you share a detailed history of almost every item you show. It's great!
You went back and fixed the audio!!! Thumbs up right there. Thats dedication.
Thanks John, The audio is great! I'm glad you listen to your fans :)
Thanks John, your reviews are great! Audio was perfect this time!
After 11 years after the atari lynx, there was finaly another portible color 16bit gaming system with a somewhat left/ right rotational feature.
Thank you. I've been working on fixing it, and thanks for the feedback.
As always, fully informative and clear. Cheers fella, good work.
Thanks for correcting the audio.. there's a couple more that were messed up as well.
great job as always! I never heard of the 'wonderswan' that is one crazy name for a system... Thanks as always for bringing this system to my attention. Great stuff and liked!
Nice video, i have the wonderswan, but ill be picking up the crystal whenever i get the chance. ps. if you aren't aware already, you should have mentioned that Gunpey Yokoi pass away before the release of the first wonderswan, and i think that was the reason why they name the game "Gunpey" after him, as tribute. Just adding that on since you were speaking about his history lol.
you rock gamster81 i love learning about odd rare consoles and portable gaming systems i have learned alot from you thank you so much:)
The Wonder Swan is an awesome handheld, too bad it didn't get an international release. I actually picked this bundle up recently in a local shop for about $22 and I'm very happy with it. Awesome review!
The best KZreadr, I swear.
its always interestig to see consoles i didnt even know existed, great vid :)
Great Review as always John, Always look forward to them :-) $59 was super cheap for sure ! They had to compete with a lot of other great systems at the time though so hard to grab some of the market !
Great video, thanks for posting it! I just can't get over your use of the word "heighTH" rather than "height" haha.
I saw pictures of this in magazines when it was new. The games looked good in screenshots. I play this and the color version on my retropie with translated games so I can read what's going on lol.
Thanks for fixing up the audio! Nice review!
I love the virtualboy too. I'm young enough that my first handheld was a gameboy advance and I sunk countless hours into it. I guess my favorite game for it was Pokemon Ruby, but I wasn't picky back then, I loved them all.
No problem. Thanks
Thanks, I appreciate that. :)
Nice video! I've always been curious about the WonderSwan.
interesting, it seems more interesting to me than just a regular gameboy, to bad it wasn't released in the states.

Unheard-of Tech yeah that sucks if it was sold in korea tho
the final fantasy character on the Wonderswan is Kain, who is from Final fantasy 4.
I'm pretty sure the Turbo Grafx 16 was marketed as a 16bit system, but it was actually only a 8bit system. So the Turboexpress is a portable TG16, so that would make it a 8bit handheld.
I thought the Atari Lynx held that title, being as it came out in 1989. The Turbo Express also preceded the Nomad by about 4 years, if you want to count that. Funny that I mention all of these handhelds, but I only have the Nomad.
You are actually correct. :) Nice catch.
I loveddd Gameboy. I played Gargoyle's Quest over idk how many times. I'd do it in one sitting as it wasn't a terribly long game once you knew exactly what you were doing. My friend and I back then used to sit on his balcony going head to head in Tetris or Tennis, was a lot of fun. I still have that beast somewhere haha packed away.
I've got an original Wonderswan and my favorite game is Kaze No Klonoa Moonlight Museum.
That's a fine looking handheld.
I always loved the design of the wonderswan. I never had one because i live in europe.
Thanks for redoing it.
Atari Lynx was released in 1989 and the TurboExpress was released in 1990 both were 16 bit handhelds.
The Wonderswans always interested me (much like other not super successful consoles) From what I recall there is a headphone adapter accessory like there was with the Gameboy SP. Now I really want that Wonder Witch, so I can program for this thing and mess around with it.
I have to go with the GA and the Sonic Advance games, which where really good 2D games, as for the WonderSwan too bad it did not get a western release with an extra light attachment and headphone jack, cause I think it could have done well enough if it had been priced right. One last thing thanks for redoing this video, and keep up the good work :-)
Yeah, the Lynx came out in '89 and was 16-bit. I could have sworn John did a review for the Atari Lynx too actually.
Out of all the handheld competitors at the time this one seems like the best. Great battery life nice screen and it wasn't expensive. I'd have to say if a handheld was to beat Nintendo at that time it would have to be this.
I love you, Gamester : )
Thanks John, really enjoyed this vid
ahahah can't stop laughing when you said as for the sex yes please

I hope you know where that's from.
great review john as always. ive got that same special edition looks great in its presentation pack . shame the system isnt more western friendly .
Dang it John, I commented on the last video. There is a volume indicator in the middle on the right side(on the black bar) when you are adjusting it. It's very tiny though.
nice review. the widescreen and battery life are nice, but the button layout looks cramped.
I'm in the States and have a Wonderswan Color on order. From what I've seen since it was a Japan only release, games have to be imported and they're very expensive. Can you name for me any American retro game stores that might carry Wonderswan games?
By the way Thanks 4 sharing!! (: I forgot 2 mention the lynx!! But this handheld is now collector edition (: Jus having one is Awesome in itself.... I like & subskribe
Gamesters channel is very quiet lately. Id like to see some more older stuff. Cheers
nice new logo
Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the Sega Nomad The first 16 bit Handheld after all it was just a portable Sega Genesis.
your a good guy for doing these videos
Always get a kick out of your vid, thanks :)
Gameboy colour. Just love the design
great video ..thank you and keep up the rad work
Before he left nintendo he made the gameboy pocket :P

:( He would have made a great battery life gameboy advance system or even color!
Nice job with the review John. I'm guessing the Swan is like the Game Boy SP where as you need a special Ext to 1/8" adapter or buy Bandai branded headphones. I never liked that about the SP.. Nintendo/3rd party headphones were garbage and the adapter = just another thing to forget on trips!
Great Show!. I wonder if it is possible you will make a video about how to take care of your own collection, like cleaning or dusting games and consoles. Sounds boring, but very important.
a little question. you have some Big hands or the console is just small? awesome review ;)
I like the Virtual Boy too. I don't get why people say it hurts their eyes.
If I read correctly it is much like the Gameboy Advance SP in that you would need to get an accessory to be able to use headphones.
Unless you consider the Turbografx a 16-bit system, then the Turboxpress was the first.
Could you do a vid of the swan crystal? I'm considering buying one. Also, did final fantasy IV come out on the wonderswan? it's my favourite of the series
I like the old intro music better.
It's because they have horoscopes for blood types in Japan.
I have some adapter where you can hook up headphones on the gameboy advance sp pretty useful.
and the TurboExpress came out a year later and was also 16 bit. both the Lynx and the TurboExpress had 8 bit main cpu's but had gpu's capable of 16 bit. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I've never seen a Wonder Swan until now, only played with the emulators and wondered about what it was back when I was really into my GP2X F100. Do you happen to have one of those? I'd love to hear what you have to say about it.
There is an headphone attachment, which sucks that they didn't add a port in any of their consoles. Yup, even the 2002 Swancrystal doesn't have a headphone port.
I wouldn't mind owning a Wonderswan along with the 2 Judgement Silverswords (one needs the wich) that are vertical shmups, but the prices on those games makes Radiant Silvergun look cheap. Instead I'll stick with 360 versions included with Eschatos.
Nintendo did released a backlit gameboy but was only in Japan.
Gameboy advance was my fave, the WS though looked decent for the time. In hindsight it always seems odd to me that a company would even try to compete with nintendo in the handheld space.
Nice!
i think the only wonderswan worth owning is the swancrystal. i have a color wonderswan and have a hard time finding the right angle/contrast to even see anything.
I would have killed for one of these back in 2000
I only own a Gameboy color, so I guess that is my favorite. :)
yeah but does it run Crysis?
Japan has a strange fixation with blood types..In most of the game manuals, blood type is listed in the character bios, for all kinds of games, be it RPG or Shootem up or fighting game.
"Sex, yes please" Austin Powers reference :P
Updated Game room tour??
Neogeo Pocket Color WINS! HERE!
the wonderwave would not connect to the pocket station as planned, it would connect to digimon tamagochis. wanna see something awesome? search wonderborg, just do it :)
U know!!!! Any hand held! With Guilty Gear!!! HAS my respect!!!! GUILTY GEAR is the most underrated game ever! And use the original name Guts Man! What could beat that! Turbo 16 was thee best handheld! Den ngp! Den gear, den g-boy color! Even Tiger gots my respect! Were different but the same.... were different but the same...
The favorite of the four?are you kidding Gamester?GameBoy Advance of course.no competition
Actually, wasn't the Atari Lynx 16-bit?
And awesome vid
wow, it looks so small,I thought it was bigger!
Every time I see the NGPC I immediately think (Jokingly) that you just stole or cloned mine. Can you by some chance do a new video on the NGPC PLEEEEEASE? :3
The Coca Cola kid drinks Game gear! i mean....
I gotta go with the GBA, because it was overall a pretty epic system, it had 2 full libraries of games it could play, It had some fairly nice games itself and they are built like a bick shithouse, I've never owned a NGPC or Wonderswan, Maybe I will one day, So far my collection consists of mostly Nintendo systems.
Turbo Express / TG-16 wasn't 16bit though.
Don't feel like quitting.or you are my boss or my mom?not a bad video gamester
What about the Atari Lynx?
lol, thats so frustrating, ive been using emojo since my first original xbox live account, e for eli, mo for morgan (thats my name) jo for josh which is my brothers name who used the account also. i do understand how it looks tho XD
still bad audio man... whats happening? im not sure wether its your microphone or how you edit it, but it still sounds like it was recorded back in 1997
woah i have a stalker!
both
Just my opinion but these reviews are way too much you and not enough gameplay. A short info would suffice and then maybe talk over some captured gameplay? I appreciate you reviewing these odd systems, just giving my two cents.
I've bought the console and ff2 but, I cant play it because I don't understand Japanese..

+Nora Nightingale Honestly, if you play RPG's a lot, it should only take a few minutes to get acquainted with the menus, I don't know any Japanese and it was pretty easy for me to tell what menu did what after messing around for a little bit.
Sounds fine to me. Remember folks, you are watching a free vide on youtube. Not avatar 3d on blu ray. Quit your fucking moaning. Good work John.
Thumbs up if you grew up with the gameboy lol.
