Band-Maid is not a band that plays so-called metal. The appeal of this band lies in its diversity of genres such as jazz, rock, blues, pop, funk, and classical. This is evident in Kanami's guitar, which is not a mechanical string of notes like a metal guitarist, but rather in her ability to adapt to any genre and her emotional phrasing. She is a Frank Zappa-like genius to me.

There are stronger technical guitarists, if you’re like a guitar fetishist, but Kanami is very good, and thinks of herself as a composer first, and it shows in her work. She’d skip solos outright if she thought the fans would prefer it, and a lot of the time, she’s just shredding through choruses and stuff, but you have to strain to hear it because they mix it very low.

@@daaaaaave yes, there are stronger guitarists if you want speed a'la DragonForce. Kanami's strength is in composition and each of her solo's (from my perspective) feels unique and tells a story. She does employ a pletora of techniques, so I would say her versatility is her greatest strengths. I'm no musician, but other musicians say Kanami is a bit unorthodox in her playing, which becomes more apparent the more you listen to Band-Maid.

Kanami is one of the top guitarists in the world (and a classically trained pianist). If you have doubts check out the track From Now On (an instrumental). What you will pick up on after a few songs is that she doesn't show off all the time. In this song it's Akane's (the drummer) turn. Almost half the songs have bass solos (Misa). Kanami composes the music and often writes stuff that show off the other members BUT plenty of songs have the spotlight on her. Also, Band-Maid considers themselves a hard rock band but have a ton of influences and write all different kinds of songs.

Best rock band on the planet. Watch HATE? live from the Yokahama Arena concert 2023. If it doesn't smash your psyche something's wrong. Believe me when I say that Kanami, lead guitar, can play ANYTHING she wants to. She can shred with the best of them. Akane, drummer, goes by the nickname "Gorilla" and when they toured England years ago, before the pandemic, Jimmy Page felt compelled to go back stage and meet her. The best way to watch Band Maid is generally live. They are a tremendous live band. By the way, Kanami writes all the music templates for the rest of the band to follow. She's a genius. If you delve into this band more you'll gain a much larger appreciation for them as they can cover many genres.

Amateur guitar solos, to begin with, KANAMI (lead guitarist and main composer) has a different approach to her guitar solos. She does not flaunt her technique, but rather focuses on making her guitar sing as part of the song. Therefore, listeners sometimes criticize solos as being too short or not technical enough, but when they actually try to copy the solos, they are often surprised at how difficult they are. It is up to the listener to decide what he or she wants from the guitar solo. When KANAMI composes, it is always about the perfection of the piece and very much about the ensemble. So if you like technical guitar, listen to the instrumental tracks. I am sure you will have some recommendations.

Even if playing the notes is easy, Kanami messes with the timing so much, you’re probably going to struggle playing any of their songs. That she does it when they’re primarily a live band and never goes out of time is really impressive. That said, the Shambles solo isn’t my favorite.

She’s way better, technically, than what she does in this song but, that said, I’ve heard some of the most elite guitarists whose play is often trapped in crappy songs. I’ll take Kanami’s song compositions over theirs all day. Lastly, this isn’t close to the most impressive Akane drumming either.

Welcome to Band Maid 🔥 “Shambles” is a song to introduce drummers to the Band. (As is the song “Warning”) Whatever heat comes your way because of your initial thoughts, please accept that with kindness. New listeners are coming at Band Maid from traditional rock and metal. Band Maid is the most creative and fearless band in a generation. “Do all their songs sound like this? Do they do softer stuff, or heavier stuff, or something in between? Longer songs? Shorter ones?” Yes. The “corny” elements here and there are part of their charm. The Maids play to serve and for you to have fun and want more. I think they achieved their goal with you. Take your pick for number two: Harder: “Rinne” Harder instrumental: “From Now On” Same: “Warning! Different: “DICE” Solo Fest: “Domination” Arena Rock: “Freedom” Funk Rock: “Manners” Progressive: “Onset” Pop punk: “Blooming” Alt Rock Ballad: “Daydreaming” Softer: “Wonderland” Slow Jam: “About Us”

@@BeerNightYTshow I am a former saxophonist who specialized in promotion and production in the Japanese music industry. Also, my father was a top-notch studio musician. So I know from experience that many excellent performers do not necessarily possess a high level of musical understanding (“musicality”). In short, being a good performer does not necessarily equate to a high level of musicality. If you think that the only criteria to evaluate a professional performer is how fast he/she can move his/her fingers or how (easy) he/she can play a difficult piece, then you are truly ignorant about music, I believe. I don't know how good a performer you are, but from your comments, I would say that you are amateur class when it comes to your ability to listen to music.

Welcome, Steve & Chris. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 200 million YT views plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (130+ songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular! Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h5inmclsfZCanLQ.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Hate?, Shambles, Influencer, Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 32 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Hi guys! Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up. They are all in their 30's. Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

Akane is musical. Kanami is one of the best guitarists out there, apart from the fact that her solo in this song is a bit too short, I have no complaint. She's a feel/style player and plays like no other, so unmistakable. She appeared in guitar world twice, which means something. I'm not saying she's technically the best player, it's not the first time someone said something to the effect of "her guitar solos are simple". It sounds simple, technically quite simple and yet its tricky to learn her guitar part, rhythmically and...psychologically? I don't know how to describe it, it's deceptively simple but not simple at the same time😂 I don't know which style of music you like, but from what you talk about Akane's relentless drums I think you would prefer a song like Blackhole, or Giovanni. For some Kanami excellence, try H-G-K. Don't forget the music is mainly composed by Kanami the lead guitarist.

Welcome to the amazing world of Band-Maid. Do they do other stuff? Their portfolio is deep and diverse. Band-Maid is a self described Hard Rock band, but their genre is Band-Maid, as the mis and match genres at will often in the same song. Enjoy the journey. Try "From Now On" OMV instrumental or "Hate?" OLV from their 10th Anniversary Tour Finale at Yokohama Arena. "Hate?" was song 27 of 33 that evening in a 3hr and 40min concert. I always think of the vocals, if in a language I can't understand, as another instrument adding to the ensemble, as great music is great music. Heck, I often can't understand what some singers are saying even though they are singing in English.😂 Anyway, thank you again for reacting to the Maids and hope you continue down the Pigeonhole. PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘 BTW...Shambles is the ending theme song for the anime "Kengan Asura" Season 2 on Netflix, thus the lyric was made to fit the anime.

For a recent LIVE experience, if you like, do check out HATE?, from their Yokohama show. It's another hard, fast one, and shows this same face of BAND-MAID, but with even more intensity. (I like the Kanami and MISA showcase, for lead and bass guitars.) But, they do a lot of things. I've been to a live show on their US tour in '23, stationed about ten feet in front of Saiki. With all her skill and craft, I'm especially struck by the sheer sustained power of her voice. She's very good at breathing. No fade out, or ramp ups, which can bedevil a lot of live performers.

THE best Hard Rock band on the planet. Even more impressive live. This was a song made for the credits of an anime so the lyrics were very specific. Try the live performance of HATE? (on their YT channel) for a display of lead guitar and bass call-and-response that will let you see them display their superb musicianship. If you want to see Akane the drummer displaying her skills, try the live performance of the song FREEDOM or her drum solo at Yokohama Arena, Nov 2023 ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/lmeGzdaoabOafZc.htmlsi=Y-Yrzphiqn2pfy9r ).

This was commissioned for the season two closer of the Netflix anime, Kengan Ahsura. They even appear in anime form in the MV for 'Unleash'. But you should do 'Hate?' LIVE next. As to what they do, they do it all. Seriously, it's all different. They have heavy stuff, Punk, Power Pop. What mood are you in? They have a song for it. Even Japanese traditional in their April Fool's Day persona BAND-MAIKO. Since he likes the drummer, Akane "The Beast", you could try 'Freedom' LIVE. It has a Drum Solo. Her changes are really changes. Her creativity doesn't repeat.

Welcome to the land of the Maid. I've never been a lyrics person so this may be easier for me, but I'd recommend you not try to read the subs as you watch for the first time - they pack so much awesomeness into the music that it's impossible to take it in if you're reading. There are a couple of exceptions, where you absolutely need to read the subs, but for now I'd pretend the vocalist is another instrument. I think you're gonna love this band - I can tell. They've been around for 10 years and there are TONS of songs out there, plus they are extremely diverse stylistically. They do ballads, power ballads, hard rock with heavy metal influence, and even prog tinged hard rock (Black Hole and Giovanni). The guitarist is the main songwriter too - and this isn't my fave solo by her either. Try Puzzle Live Official Video on their channel - and then Hate? - These will give you a better understanding of her playing, and you will not be disappointed!
