Guitar Tutor Critiques Band Maid First Time Hearing Analysis/Reaction DOMINATION. So clearly this isn't a Pantera cover like I had assumed! 🤣 First time listening to them properly, wow! As well as reacting from a professional musician and guitarists point of view, we'll breakdown the intro guitar parts and find out why they sounds so cool together! Some serious musicianship here, not just a gimmick from Band-Maid.
Hopefully something new or educational in here for you guys; who else should I check out? Let me know!

The swarm of fans commenting is due to your thoroughly thoughtful look at the song. Fans love this band for their commitment to excellence, for their obvious love of performing and each other. Bandmaid was on the verge of their first show at Budokan in Feb 2020 & due to Covid had to cancel. They responded with an online concert and a song "About Us" that is a love letter to fans and a message of hope, in it Saiki sings " it's alright we are here, no one is alone" They care and it shows; hence the somewhat hyperactive fandom (guilty).

When they release stuff you know it has met their self-criticism. Some of them trained at the Tokyo School of Music -- they are not amateur musicians. They know when something is not good enough. The Band-Maiko videos they made were the classiest ever April Fool's Day prank -- a maiko is an apprentice geisha, so they dressed as maiko instead of maids, and blended in some traditional Japanese music with their rock sound. Jokingly I would say that Band Maiko is the only band better than Band Maid. This is a band with serious ability.

As impressive as Domination is, you don't grasp the full wonder of Band-Maid until you've heard enough of their songs to realize that songwriting is one of their two best traits. They are fantastic musicians with zero ego, they make it super-fun for the fans and they're breathing new life into hard rock that is at once reminiscent of 70's classic, 80's and 90's hard rock. Their song structures, as you saw here, can be very creative and unusual. Here's the other of their 2 best traits - they stimulate the dopamine in your head like nobody like - ever. They become seriously addicting because of that, and in such a good way. They really don't have any bad songs, but I'll recommend Blooming, Manners, Warning, Real Existence Live, Freedom Live (their live stuff is really the best if that's an option), or for a classic power ballad go for Daydreaming. Oh! Bubble MV is great and so is the combo of Secret My Lips and Secret Maiko Lips - in that order - it's a surprise.

People look at me cross-eyed when I say I've found the best rock band since the Beatles, but I stand by that. 100+ songs, no duds. The Beatles quit after around 230 songs, so Band-maid are well on their way to matching their output. And, as hard as it is to admit, in terms of sheer ability on their instruments, Band-Maid are on a higher tier. This is from a guy who saw Jefferson Airplane, Jeff Beck, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Queen and a bunch of others in their heyday. Beatles #1, Band-Maid #2.

I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciate 99% of the reaction/ analysis and hit SUBSCRIBE as soon as I saw the SRV / Albert King pop up. I love the blues and SRV is my all time favorite musician. I've listened to, and loved, him for 40 years. Albert King is godlike in my book, too. In fact, anybody with the last name of King that picks up a guitar is OK with me. I love BAND-MAID as much as anybody here. They are the most unassuming, incredible band that I have ever seen. You would never imagine by looking at them that they play this type of music so, SO well. Each has incredible talent and adding that to the amazing songwriting and "showwomanship" puts this band over the top. I learned about them about 4 years ago and they've changed music for me, forever, and I've listened to them every day since. The 1% that I dislike about this reaction is that Tiny Hat 👒 gets credit for introducing you to BAND-MAID. Everyone here will agree with me in saying that is the only part that stinks. 🦨 p.s. 👍👒😁👏👏

Thanks for doing it! Huge shout out to you for going ahead with recording even though you thought it was going to be gimmicky. One thing that I feel it's important to note is that the maid outfits are artists' choice, not an idea forced on them by their label. They're used not just as an image to make them recognisable/memorable, but also to create a "gap" between you expect based on what you see vs. what you hear when they start playing. One other thing to note is that most of the solos during the middle section were added for that live performance and aren't in the album version of the song. They keep the "official" versions of their songs tight but add stuff for the fans who go to their shows. One song has had 4 different intros in the last two years, none of which are on the album version lol. Fantastic breakdown as expected and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I was looking through your channel again and saw you did a Larry Carlton-style backing track. He's one of lead guitarist Kanami's biggest influences (along with Santana). She says that hearing Carlton's "Room 335" moved her and inspired her to get serious about playing guitar. More songs? My favourite is "Giovanni". It's pretty progressive and has a nutty guitar riff, although it's quite low in the mix. Unfortunately it doesn't have a video (they mostly chose to make videos of the more accessible songs from their new album) but it is on their official channel in their "Unseen World" Playlist. Thanks again for taking the suggestion.

At first, Kanami would write simple rhythm sections for Miku, but now, Miku is pretty good so Kanami just writes music and Miku just plays it. She's very dedicated. One of my favorite thigs about Japanese female musicians is their absolute dedication to their craft, their precision, and the constant drive to improve. Compared to many bands nowadays, these ladies were not thrown together wildly, but more or less found themselves. Some call it fate. Rhythm guitarist Miku Kobato had the idea for the band while working in a maid cafe. That's where the outfits come from. She saw Kanami (lead guitarist) online in solo videos and simply asked her to join the band. She already knew and worked with Akane Hirose (drummer), who went to the same music school as Misa (bass). Finally, Saiki Atsumi was 'lured' into the band after they were given a tip-off by Miku's agency at the time. :) That these ladies are more than just a band could be seen well here, but I think it can best be seen in the live video for 'Freedom' from the same show, which also has a nice guitar solo. Or, if you are interested in an instrumental, there is no way around 'Onset'. :) 【 'Our rock never dies, ever. Forever!' - from 'Manners' by Band-Maid 】 🕊️

@@JbfMusicGuitar Well, for the first 3 of their albums they had the package with writers and so on. But on the third one, they got the opportunity to release a work that they completely wrote and composed themselves. The song is fittingly titled 'Alone' and the album that followed was already completely self-written. This already dates back to 2016/2017 and in January of this year they released their seventh studio album. Strictly speaking, actually their eighth. :) Of course, the overall picture of a band is made up of its individual parts. But there is also a serious difference compared to other bands. There is not just this one or two particularly talented individuals. Without exception, all of them have this enormous talent in what they do and thus each of them is an equally strong pillar in the construct called 'Band-Maid'. They function as a group/team, which goes from songwriting all the way to live performances. Needless to say, that it helps a lot that they have found each other in a 'natural' way and friendships have developed between them. Perhaps you can tell that I am very fond of these ladies. Not only for me, but for many out there, they are perhaps the best and most refreshing thing the rock genre has seen in a very, very long time.

Hello from Germany... I would suggest Onset (live) or Warning! (live)... Onset is just one of many great instrumentals of Band-Maid and Warning! (live) is from their new album and the live version is really new on their channel and it´s an great track. Kanami (lead guitar) is also writing all of their songs, but always giving Akane (drummer) and MISA (bass) enough space just to let them breath and doing almost their own thing. Really, really talented band and 7-8 years together with 100+ songs, these ladies are workhorses and still having SO MUCH FUN! Have fun going down the pigeon hole, it´s 110% worth it!

No problem Greg! One of the videos I did while back seemed to annoy people that I was pausing too much - I don't want to just sit and watch stuff (especially when there's as much going on as there is here!), so thought if I put a wee disclaimer at the start that'll let folk know what the score is 🤘

  • @SLKRR

Enjoyed your analysis and breakdown. There are actually videos from a limited edition DVD/BD of each individual member playing their parts for this song (and a few other songs). They get blocked from YT whenever someone tries to upload them, but I'm sure someone knowledgeable could point you towards a valid link. Regarding the composition of the band's music, their first two mini-albums were written by professional songwriters from their label, but they were finally given permission to write their own songs starting with their 3rd album. After that, almost everything they've recorded has been their own material. This track (Domination) is from their fifth album (World Domination), which they composed themselves. Their normal songwriting process is: Kanami (lead guitarist) comes up with the riffs and overall melody of a song, she sends it to Akane (drums) and Misa (bass), who add their own flourishes and ideas. After this, Miku (rhythm guitar) writes the lyrics, sometimes with input from Saiki (lead vocals), who is the one who gives "final approval" that a song is good enough to release. Kanami really seems to enjoy challenging herself and the other members to play more and more difficult arrangements, which you can really see in their latest album (Unseen World).

A small note about the costumes. In Japan, there is a thing called "gap moe". Moe (pronounced Moe-eh) is more or less, appeal or cuteness depending on the context, while gap in this case is when something looks like it should be a certain way, but is in fact quite not that way. So you could have a tomboy who has a very girly hobby that is unexpected and cute. The gap being the unexpectedness of someone looking like a tomboy, having the hobby. Well, with the maid outfits you get the visual that "oh, it's cutesy girls. This music will be poppy and cute." but then they hit you with the sound. That's the gap. And Miku wanted that gap when she came up with the band. The gap of look vs sound is the concept. Hope that's a decent description of it.

  • @JbfMusicGuitar

They formed in August 2013 and have released their own songwriting songs from Alone, whose video was released in February 2016. The composition is performed by Kanami on lead guitar, the lyrics are by Kobato on rhythm guitar, the drum part is Akane, and the bass part is Misa. When in doubt, the vocalist Saiki often decides. They are devoted to making the song cool, and it's becoming a technical, complex and fast song, but it's all a BAND MAID-like song with catchy rhythms and melodies. Even songs that are difficult to understand at one time will become better if you listen to them multiple times.

Welcome aboard, Jack. You are embarking on (along with many others - 110 million YT views!) an awesome hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Consistency (115 songs with their latest album, “Unseen World”), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off the rails spectacular. Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h5inmclsfZCanLQ.html Their later songs from albums Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, and Just Bring It drive even more - Warning, No God, H-G-K, Black Hole, Different, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts! And many are represented with over 35 well produced music videos. kzread.info Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYU-JI concerts. Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA on February 14th (“Domination” kzread.info/dash/bejne/g5ats6WDnpnYico.html), ZEPP 2018, Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and some of the better 2019 tour Fan vids are excellent. Here’s four of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at super intimate venues. These two taken by Vladimir Chupin in Hamburg: kzread.info/dash/bejne/kZNl1spwk9fNfdI.html, and a fun, wonderful live performance in Amsterdam of Miku introducing "Don't You Tell Me" (with MISA & Kanami's great instrumental exchange) and "Turn Me On” (with MISA's solo intro): kzread.info/dash/bejne/nZqNs9GQcs-5oM4.html. If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009 Band-Maid members are: Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 27 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen! Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 29 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!! Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 29 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 30 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. I am ashamed to say, that I was at their first overseas concert at Sakura-Con 2016 (even got a shirt autographed), but after I went back to the daily grind that was the Navy, I promptly forgot about them. Fortunately, I rediscovered them (and my autographed shirt) sometime last year thanks to Chase Carneson, and now they are easily my favorite band. Like others have said, they really don't have a "bad" song, so you could just watch their entire library (and all of us maidiacs will come flocking to your channel). Still, their songs pull inspiration from a variety of genres, so depending on what you feel like listening to, there's a lot of choices. Some songs like Daydreaming or Endless Story are ballads with a lot of feeling in them, and some are heavier and more metal, like Rinne or After Life. As a general rule of thumb, the live concert videos are even better than the studio recordings, but I would shy away from fan cams in case of terrible audio quality.

My critique would be "Best live Rock band I've seen since Zeppelin in 1979. I've waited 40 years for this." PS Jimmy Page seemed to agree as he went backstage in 2016 to get a selfie with Akane, the drummer! Just for a moment, forget they're all female and forget they're dressed as maids. Two members (MISA - Bass, Akane - Drums) are classically trained pianists and musicians who studied at the Tokyo Academy of Music while Kanami, the lead guitarist, has also been playing piano since the age of 3 or 4 but is concert standard (almost unbelievably, given her skills, she only switched to guitar about 10 years ago!) They all have superb musical ability as well as passion, a lack of ego and the drive to play real, in your face, Rock which is why they are THE best live Rock band on Earth right now. OK, now that's explained, you can go back and marvel at how cute those outfits look and how incredibly beautiful all the band members are. The only band I've seen that is playing live like bands I went to see in the 70's, such as Led Zeppelin or Sabbath or Zappa. Music they write themselves, real guitars, drums and bass played loudly and with passion as well as powerful Rock vocals. They are all really close friends and know how to have fun together on stage, confident as they are in each others’ abilities and skills. They've revived the classic Rock sound and given the genre a much needed kick in the ass, as Babymetal have done for Metal. Future reactions I'd recommend, as they really shine brightest live, would be from the DVD they released in April. A huge part of BAND-MAID is the drummer Akane. She is special. She do not play as most drummers do. Most drummers keep the tempo and plays some rudiments (I think it is called so in drum terms) combining them to a rhythm that is the basis for the band. That is not how Akane plays. Her arms are flying around all the time and the drums seems to be hit almost at random in very melodic rhythms and unexpected ways. Therefore you hear Akane clearly through all the song. She is ever present. And it sounds good. Listen to any BAND-MAID song and concentrate on the drums. The fans claims her to be the best drummer. I doubt that, but she is good, very good. And different. In particular different. And then she is smiling while waving her arms. That's charm! I like Akane, and she is the main reason for me listening to BAND-MAID.

Japanese is a very lyrical language. Look at Hirose Akane's wrists on the drum solo. Her wrists are the most relaxed I have seen and that allows her a very smooth and fluid drumming style. She is the leader of the band. Misa is one of the best bass players I have seen. I love that she can play with a pick, slap and finger pick. And on the bass she can shred which is hard to do. Tōno Kanami , the lead guitarist on our right is a great rhythm and lead player who can shred with the best of them. Did you here the frequency and accuracy of those bends? Atsumi Saiki, the lead vocalist has such a great voice with an excellent range. She has outstanding stage presence. She was the last edition to the band and was deceived by Pigeon who did not tell her about the maid uniforms. She still kicks at Pigeon once in a while. Speaking of Pigeon, she is the guitarist on our left. That is Kobato Miku (a.k.a. Po which is Japanese for Pigeon). She learned to play rhythm from Kanami. She was the founding member and was supposed to be lead vocals but she felt she didn't have enough oomph. That is why they brought Saiki into the band. I love the way she harmonizes with Saiki. But I also adore the parts where she is supporting what Saiki is singing with a little something different. It gets to be like Saiki telling the audience something with her vocal part and then Miku kind of edifying what Saiki just sang. Gets a conversational quality to the songs. You can't go wrong no matter what you pick. I would recommend On Set and Play.

I can see the enthusiasm on your face as you listened to these ladies that you're hooked. These girls are the "Perfect Storm" with regards to rock bands. Everything is perfect, not unlike the Beatles in many senses. Who started the band, how they all met and formed, how their "rock" goals were all in the same place, how they continued when they were down, how they continue once back up, multiple record labels. For me, one thing that makes them great is the back story and the sisterhood they have. Akane, Misa, & Kanami formally studied music, and Japan is serious with their music schools. Miku founded the band and was the sole lead vocalist, but she realized her voice didn’t have the raw power for the music she envisioned, so she recruited Saiki to be the vocal lead. That said, Miku has a lovely voice that is pleasant and soothing to listen to along with harmonizing beautifully with Saiki. To make a short story long, Miku (rhythm guitar/backing vocals/lyricist) had worked in maid cafes and thought that a band dressed in outfits associated with sexy submissiveness playing hard, in-your-face rock would be a great hook. Kanami (lead guitar/songwriter/principal arranger) loved the idea, largely because she has no fashion sense and this way she never had to worry about what to wear on stage. Akane (drummer) thought the idea was dumb but fun, but didn't like how the costume restricted her movement. MISA (bass) hated the costumes, and almost didn't join because of them. After MISA's reaction, Miku only told Saiki (lead vocals) that they would wear 'cute costumes ' when performing. Saiki was horrified when she saw them, not because they were maid uniforms, but because they were boring and dowdy (Saiki is quite the fashionista). Eventually, things came to a head, and Akane (the leader the band doesn't have) decreed that everyone could design their own outfits, as long as they stuck to the maid theme. Kanami kept the traditional maid outfit. Miku started heading into cosplay maid territory, like she owned stock in the ruffle-and-flounce factory. Akane initially ditched the apron, shortened the skirt, and ripped out the shoulder seams of the blouse. Later, Miku helped her make a black and white jumper that suggests a maid uniform while leaving her limbs totally free. Saiki took a head housekeeper 's uniform, sexed it up, and emerged looking like a sexy dominatrix head maid. And MISA showed up in a black dress, claiming it was a Croatian maid uniform. Or maybe Lithuanian. She finally went with Ninja maid uniform, because 'you'll never see her cleaning. '

Thank you for a really interesting and detailed critique. It was really interesting seeing you deconstruct the guitar work. The ladies pull in influences from from all over the rock, blues, jazz, etc. spectrum - it is one of the reasons I enjoy their music so much. I see that the Bandmaniacs have already dropped a lot of the background info on the band, but one item I didn't see was that Miku (rhythm guitar, backing vocals and lyrics) didn't actually play guitar when the band started. However, she started taking lessons from Kanami (lead guitar and music) and can now really contribute. They have all really pushed each other to always get better. When working on "Different" (which is the opening song for season 3 of the anime Log Horizon), Kanami asked Akane (drums) what her best bpm was and then wrote the song to be faster than that. It was their fastest song for quite a while. If you want to hear a really interesting song of organized chaos, I highly recommend it.

Onset is probably the safe pick for a next video, but there's a song called Different and an instrumental version of Giovanni (there's no official live version and the album version has the guitar low in the mix) that feature guitars going so crazy I can't even keep up. Would be interesting to see the perspective of someone who knows what they're doing.

Great point about not needing to understand the lyrics to still absolutely enjoy the vocals. It reminds me of opera where the voice is one of the primary instruments and the actual lyrics meaning is secondary (and in opera, often quite silly). However, having said that, the can be some added meaning with the English subtitles turned on, although the translations often don't scan poetically/melodically particularly well.

Thanks for reacting, formed in 2013 by Rhythn Guitarist and vocalist Miku Kobato. Seven Major releases so far three mini albums and four full albums with the last released Digitally on the 13th January this year With a Physical release on the 20th January 2021. The idea behind the band is the contrast between the visuals and then the sound and also the sound and the lyrics. Members (ages between 24 to 30) Akane Hirose ;- Drums (A-chan. the beast,Gorilla) Saiki Atsume :- Vocals (Sai-chan) MISA :- Bass :- (the Assasin. Misa, Misa, Misa) Kanami Tono :- Guitars (Mincho, main songwriter) Miku Kobato :- Rhythm Guitar, Vocals, Lyricist (Small Pigeon, wide shoulders, strong grip, Karuppo) Kobato in Japanese can be interpreted as small pigeon and Miku never met a pun she didn't like or a chance to mess with peoples heads Po!!. Also they have a slightly twisted sense of humour, for example the single Alone was released on Valentines day, and for the last two years on April fools day they rename themselves, the bands social media as Band Maiko where they dress as apprentice geisha's and release a video of a song written in the geisha dialect with some traditional instruments in it. Relentless live band due to having played basically anywhere they could plug in they also tend to add extra parts to the songs live , The costumes might have got their foot in the door but they have earned what they have gotten the old fashioned way, Worked hard, Toured hard, and constantly look to improve. That was a great analysis. Really enjoyed that. So Band-Maid put themselves together more or less as a musician who knew a musician who knew a another musician. Someone mentioned this already but the lead writer for the band is the lead guitarist, Kanami Tono. Domination was the first BAND-MAID song I listened to properly and was totally blown away within the first half of the song. Ordered the entire back-catalogue on iTunes that night (then decided I wanted physical copies too - great idea, paying twice!). Hasn't been a day since April 18th 2020 I haven't listened to or watched some BAND-MAID. There hasn't been another band or artist that has quite the same overwhelming effect on me. I've spent an absolute fortune on merchandise too....I think it is some sort of addiction now. I find that BAND-MAID seem to connect with other musicians a wee bit more than they do 'joe public'. MISA (bass) switching back and forth between slapping and using a pick during her solo by tucking the pick up against her palm blew me away when I noticed what she was doing. As others have said they don't seem to have any 'bad' songs that I'd skip past when listening to them (there is one that I'm not that keen on but even that is still a pretty decent song and is left to play through when it comes on).

I am a recent Maidiac convert and found them on a recommendation from another guitar channel. It didn’t take long for me to completely forget about the Maid outfits (I have come full circle and now think it’s cool). These women know music and they know their instruments very well. I’m afraid I have become a whirling fanboi since then (not becoming in someone who’s far from a teen) but I don’t care. Their music makes me happy and I smile when I listen to it. The individual personalities in the band are just the icing on the cake. They are all round wonderful and I’m very grateful I found them. I haven’t been this excited about a band’s live performances for 20+ years. Shameless admiration over. edit - I’m not going to post suggestions for another song from the Maids, as I can see the other posts and besides their obviously good options listed it is not an exaggeration to say you cannot go wrong picking anything on the official channel. Especially the live ones. I will however say that Onset, the first time I listened/watched the Tokyo Zepp live version had me in goosebumps and borderline tears.

@@JbfMusicGuitar - Indeed. I have played instruments for most of my life (started on keys just before my 5th birthday) and written music too. It brings me great enjoyment. It has never been my main gig though so I am not any sort of virtuoso but I can definitely appreciate when someone knows their ****** and these gals know the way around their instruments. I always feel a bit of a heel for recommending Onset as it's an instrumental which means no Saiki and she is as important to the band as any other member but at the same time as posted above it was the first of their pieces that I listened to that had me in an emotional state after (I think it was the second of their tracks I listened to). There have since been many more for me. Of course it's all about opinions but you really cannot go wrong IMHO and I would desperately love to see them perform in person at a live gig. Fingers crossed that can happen in the near future.
