What Rush decided was that, given that three men couldn't reproduce every studio sound while playing their primary instruments, they would at least fire the sounds in real time as part of the show. If that's good enough for Rush, it's good enough for anyone.

Ok Champ.... a few points: 1. "Not in a talkative mood"?? See what Band-Maid did to you!! They changed that in a hurry. (lol) 2. The low vocals is Miku. Yes, there are pre-recorded vocals there, but Miku often takes the lower range (Choose Me, for one). She not only has a voice of a cute pigeon, but also a fierce dragon. 3. And on the subject of pre-recorded samples/tracks/effects and what not...... I used to have a problem with it..... till I saw how it could be done right (ie Band-Maid). They are usually triggered by either Akane or Kanami. 4. As much as I love a multi layered, complicated rock epic.... I equally love a straight up, simple "chugger". (Choose Me is actually my favorite B-M song.) AND FINALLY 5. Go back and listen to Akane's drum work during Kanami and MISA's jam. It is SUBLIME. A cool Band-Maid reaction again. Thanks.

The “explosion” at the start of each chorus is Akane’s china crash cymbal - the sudden change in timbre/tone and fullness of the cymbal sound mixes with the guitars and gives that effect. Then your mind gets confused and perpetuates (because it’s trying to figure it out) that overall sound for a few more milliseconds - so that initial changes and then then overall delay in processing the sound gives us that effect.

They make unique songs! It feels like every song has received the band's careful attention, to make it live and breathe the best it can. They don't overuse the effects. Distortion can be nice, but if everything is distorted...my ears get tired...hehehe...I think, as they evolve, we'll see Kanami's live work expand to keyboard synths. Like Champ said, the keyboard line really made the chorus. They could afford to expand the "quiet" areas more, which increases the dynamism = synth fills...let Saiki soar a bit...thinking of Rush, "Time Stand Still"...

That battle solo has been on hiatus since 2019 (Look at their performances this year). They didn't want to make it stale. Like they said, if you eat good food all the time, it won't taste as good since you are too used to it. Who knows when they are going to bring it back? They performed that in Berlin, the fancam has a higher quality. It sounds much more raw here - kzread.info/dash/bejne/nqpq2NVxca_dZ9I.html They tend to change things, Play had a different Intro in 2018, the added Miku at the end in the first half of 2019, and then changed the intro altogether in to the current one that is uploaded into their official account.

It's disappeared from most of the streaming sites, but Matchless GUM is an interesting song of theirs because it's probably one of the least complicated things they've ever composed, but it's really cool how they layer together a bunch of simple and straightforward musical motifs into something that's really, really cool. Of course, on their more prog side, there's always Secret My Lips where Akane does an absolutely phenomenal job of controlling the momentum of the song with her drumwork.

And sometimes there are complete recorded backing tracks (vocal and instrumental), from start to the end of a song. Because everything is rehearsed, the actting, the minutes, the movements, the salutes, the introductions, Miku's magic time, etc. Specially japanese bands. They don't improvise. In fact, japanese people don't improvise, haha! Even the dueling part is rehearsed, every single step (in which also an "ambient efect" backing track is played) So, no surprise the are backing tracks that can be triggered not only by Akane's pads but from another console from their crew. For example, during ONSET (Zepp Tokyo 2018), there are backing tracks for a 3rd guitar and keyboards half of the time, in order to sound exactly like the studio version. I don't know in that case if the track is triggered or there's this known guy from their crew, "D-chan" playing next to the stage a real guitar (keyboard or console).

@@gringopablo The magic time and small breaks they have are not rehearsed. They are different in every show. I also suspect some of what you hear might be post-production. Certainly the parts where you hear the crowd singing along will have at very least been cleaned up, as crowds are not known for their ability to sing perfectly in time, and in tune. There was no studio version of Onset prior to the Zepp Tokyo show, so it can't have been made to sound like the studio version.

And believe me man, I've heard this performance a thousand times. One note, during the guitar duel it is Akane's drums that make this bestial crescendo culminate explosively. It is a true masterclass of how to guide the rudder of the music that sounds until you land on the highest level of emotion possible. Thrilling.

Miku forgot to hit the pedal off and you heard the low froggy sound on a verse that wasn't supposed to have it. If watch she works those pedals alot. Just from a vocal standpoint you would probably love The Dragon Cries mv: their second mv in English: but it is so much more than just the vocals...

So Kanami begins the original mv solo, adding some tastiness to it, then they go to a bass vs guitar duel with A-chan in the background and after all that Mincho finishes her solo... I mean Composition Skill leveled up to 102! 🤘🕊️

Every time Akane uses new drumsticks, a tree is planted in her home community. Small woodland creatures are now blaming Akane for the over forestisation of their habitat in Japan.

I was going to do this one over. You beat me to it. I might go ahead and do it again anyway. It's one of my personal faves. But I wish you'd turn them up, and you down. When they come back into the chorus Akane has a cymbal she hits. It's sort of a cross between a China, a Splash & a Gong. I may even be enhanced with an electronic one as well. Whatever it is it just makes that transition so powerful at the end of her drum roll. Miku does have a processor on her mic that's a chorus / doubler. And she's also good and doubling Saiki, so between them it can sound as big as a house. Not to mention that Kanami has all the Backing Tracks on a computer that Akane has lock into like a Click Track. She'll have guitar doubles, keyboard synths, even drumbreaks. Sometimes they have to play without it if it gets lost with the baggage. Most of the time you don't even notice it's there unless something goes wrong. If you watch the Mistakes Video when amps break down you can hear it. You're right about one thing for sure, the writing. It's always fresh, yet some how familiar. Like some Anime Theme from your youth you'd half forgotten long ago. I don't know how they do that so successfully, every time.

This right here, underrated comment. This is how you bring the wall of noise performing live. Recordings have tons of layering that a 5-piece can't perform live. They play the most important parts live (and play them WELL) and fill the gaps with backing tracks. It's not cheating, it's artistry and commitment to bringing the best live performance possible. Anyone who thinks it's easy to play live freely with a backing track and still make it both spontaneous AND seamless hasn't tried it.

Akane has digital triggers and is most likely the one triggering the chorused guitar sample every time she punches into the chorus (can't say for sure). I have a roland kit and can assign anything I want to any pad. I can even step program a base line to match my kick drums . . etc There is a video out there where she endorsed a trigger module and explains how she uses it, but it was in Japanese with no subtitles . . lol The Gorilla may be even better than we thought?

I think the extra oomf when the chorus comes in is Akane smashing all her cymbals at once .

It's certainly worth watching the music video for this, even if it's not worth a reaction, simply because it's possibly their best video, with them as hapless maids at a high-society ball, who rebel and wreck the place. One worth doing, if you can find someone who'll provide a link to it (it's gone from KZread) is "Moratorium", as that has a different structure to most of their songs.
