From JAPAN Thank you for Reaction Band-Maid. They are hard rock band and are now considered by fans to be one of the best hard rock bands in the world. They usually perform 23 songs and 2 hours live. They were formed in Japan in 2013 by side guitarist Miku Kobato. Kobato had experience working at a maid cafe in Akihabara Tokyo and had the idea of playing hard rock in a maid costume. That's why the band was named Band-Maid. "Thrill" was their first music video in 2014, played 2 million times in two weeks and saved them from breaking up. At that time they were just around 20-23 years old. And then they have been doing LIVE overseas and increasing their fans. Now they are writing, composing and arranging all the songs. 31 songs have been released on their official KZread, all of which are killer songs. Band-Maid's online full live has been announced. From 16:00 on December 13th (Japan time). The new song "Different" will also be performed. Full scale live is probably about 2 hours. bandmaid.tokyo/contents/376042 They will release a new song "Different" on December 2nd and a full album "Unseen World" in January 20 next year. The difference between Band-Maid and Babymetal is that Babymetal is a produced Idol Band and Band-Maid is a traditional hard rock band. Babymetal is the creation of Key Kobayashi from the Amuse talent agency. The band was formed as an idol/heavy metal fusion group which has become known as "kawaii metal" (also known as idol metal or cute metal). Babymetal is a "kawaii metal" band made up of three female vocalists. They are backed by heavy metal instrumentation, performed by a group of session musicians known as the "Kami Band" during performances. BAND-MAID is a Japanese rock band that combines a heavy hard rock sound with a maid image modeled on Japanese maid cafés. The band was formed by singer/guitarist Miku Kobato, formerly an employee of a Japanese maid café. She visualized forming a band that juxtaposed the maid image with hard rock music. Kobato recruited lead guitarist Kanami Tōno after an Internet search. Kanami had performed in an acoustic band called Rice-cakes and Cheese and suggested her drummer Akane Hirose for the new band. Akane, in turn, recommended bassist Misa, whom she met while attending the Tokyo School of Music. The band then decided to recruit an additional lead singer and selected Saiki Atsumi during auditions. It’s apples and oranges but both bands make great music.

Band-Maid's base genre is hard rock. But they can play, and often mix punk, pop, metal, funk, jazz and most other types of music that have been out since the seventies in many of their songs. Their arrangements are seamless. They never fall back on just one or two members carrying the weight of the band. They all play top notch.

The bassist, MISA, sang and was the lead guitarist in a previous band but is now dedicated to being a silent bass assassin. Apparently she has perfect pitch. Kanami occasionally does backing vocals, and she has a very pretty voice that I wouldn't mind hearing more often. She was a solo singer/songwriter before Miku recruited her to the band.

Try their instrumental Onset. The Dragon cries is new this year, they sing in english, very Led Zepplinish. Rinne , vry hard riffs. Moratorium, great fiffs. Band Maid is hard rock. Lead guitarist Kanami writes the music. Take me higher, Kanami works a wah peddle furiously. Kanami has said Carlos Santana, Larry Carlton, EVH are influences from guitar. She had a nice tribute to EVH, in a tweet, loving his phrasing and tapping. And Onset Kanami does multiple tapping runs.

this was shot at the Shibuya Kōkaidō (aka Shibuya Public Hall, which is at Tokyo) the 14th February of 2020, so yeah it was in Japan ^.^ btw, at 1:44 you can hear Saiki (the main singer) saying "Shibukō (for Shibuya Kōkaido), kakatte koi ya", which means "Shibuya Public Hall, let's go !" also i'd personally classify Band-Maid as Hard Rock ! Misa (bassist) and Akane (drummer) do have a mic, but they rather use it to speak during breaks, stuff like that. Kanami (lead guitarist) also has a mic because she knows how to sing, she's taken lessons for that because she wanted to have this added to her musical knowledges, but she's never been fond of singing in fact. she's glad to be in Band-Maid because she doesn't have to sing all the time anymore, and can focus on lead guitar and solos :3. but sometimes, she has a few lines for back vocals ! finally, if you want to see a band with all the members singing, go for Scandal !

Band-Maid is my favorite rock band right now, but if you are looking for a current Japanese band is that is more pure power/thrash metal, you should definitely check out Lovebites. My suggestion is to watch the following songs from their excellent 2020 Zepp Diver City Tokyo show, in this particular order: 1. Thunder Vengeance, with which they open the show and includes a great intro. 2. Edge of the World, which starts out as a soft piano ballad and then builds up to where it's banging you over the head by the end, giving you the full range of what they are capable of (as well as being a real vocal masterpiece). 3. When Destinies Align (either the MV or Live), which may be their best overall song. These last two songs end the show, with Edge of the World flowing right into When Destinies Align. I love the combination of the two, which is why I recommend watching them together. Other songs from that same concert that are also worth checking out include: * Holy War (one of their hardest hitting thrash metal pieces) * Shadowmaker (their first single, also hard hitting but catchier). * Swan Song - particularly if you look for the version that includes the full Mozart piano intro (this performance shows off Miyako's full talents both on the piano and playing lead guitar, with some great solos on both instruments in the same song).

Great reactions! Since you like the more metal side of music, I'd recommend LIVE: Freedom Music Video: Rinne, Different, Alone, or Dice Band Maid fans consider them as Rock more than Metal, but they do cross over on some songs. only 2 of them sing a majority of the time= Saiki main vocals, Miku back vocals/rhythm guitar. sometimes lead guitarist Kanami will chip in, but her main job is lead guitar. Misa the bassist and Akane the drummer dont really use the mics to sing. the reason there's a fan divide amongst Baby Metal and Band Maid is the direction for both are completely different. Band-Maid are the band(aiming for pop~rock fans), where as Baby Metal is more 2~3 dancers/1vocalist+backup metal band(aiming more for the pop-idol+metal genre fans)

@@eatsmylifeYT - I really do like RE:No although I had to get used to her style, both the pastel Disney-princess gowns, and her very different vocals. I mentioned Rami because many folks feel that was their most overtly metal period, and that with each new songwriter/singer, they have softened a bit. Because these guys seem most impressed by metal. I find the RE:No time musically interesting though and like her a lot. Kinda wish they had gone with Saki of Cyntia for their new frontwoman-songwriter because Cyntia lost their audience going too soft too long and I feel like Saki learned that hard lesson already. She was starting to bring back some power when they collapsed. IMHO R!N is so far sounding more poppy than I'd like.

Not sure I've ever heard Drummer Akane or Bassist Misa sing in a live vid (or live at a show). Lead guitarist Kanami chimes in once in awhile and has a sweet voice, great harmonies from time to time. That all said, if you check out their "arch-rivals," Band Maiko, you'll hear Misa do something fun with her voice - on "Secret My Lips" MV - check it out.

There are a few fans of Band Maid or Babymetal who dog the other band. It is sad as the fan base for the greatest part overlap, there are TONS of fans of both. Hell the gateway drug to the awesomeness that is J-Metal for the great majority of international fans is Babymetal.

It feels like you guys are trying so hard throughout the entire song to categorize them, but why not just go by what they call themselves in the description of this live video? They're hard rock. Also, both Kanami and MISA have microphones, but they seem to sing backup when they want to.

Band-Maid became my fav band. Knowing all the catalogue (almost 100 songs), I'd say they move around metal, hard-rock and even punk, mixing it all. I also love Babymetal (specially that first album, it's awesome, trully awesome from beginning to end)... but I can't get both in the same "bag"... except for the fact that they are both from Japan. Babymetal is Kawaii Metal if you will, but for me is just Metal ... (the first album is a big big genius "mess" of different sub-genres of metal)

OK - Japanese metal - main group is Maximum the Hormone - started 22 years ago - they have been compared to System of a Down, but they are harder and better. 88Kasyo Junrei for your AltMetalMathcore - lead singer Margaret. Many Visual Kei groups, who I mostly do not care for, although Dir en Grey are good. Away from Metal, Japan’s most popular rock group are King GNU; at least they seem to win all the awards. Also worth sampling are Wagakki Band, who combine rock with traditional Japanese music and instrumentation

Band-maid is not a metal band, but they do have some songs with strong metal edge, such as ''rinne'' and ''black hole''. If you are a metal guy, those 2 are the must to check out. There is also the band called lovebites and they are a straight power metal band. Some say Band-maid is the best hard rock band and lovebites is the best power metal band. Maximum the hormone and ningen-isu are different kinds to lovebites but just as great. Band-maid is a genre hopping band with rocknroll at its core.

We meet again, Mr. Burns! Like Olly said, I am also Canadian (Victoria, BC here!). French metal bands that I've heard of, but have not necessarily heard: Gojira, Alcest, Deathspell Omega, Blut Aus Nord, Loudblast, Arkhon Infaustus & Agressor. Band-Maid are great musicians. The guitarists shred, the drummer is rock solid and that bass player is incredible! As for the vocals, they are pretty good but they just don't do it for me. maybe it's that "Paramore vibe" that Mr. Burns mentioned? haha! BTW, Babymetal is "kawaii metal (cute metal)". Olly, you gotta show Mr. Burns the Japanese band Ningen-Isu...especially heartless Scat (those guitar solos are GREAT!) For Mr. Burns next video, please do Clutch - Psychic Warfare (kzread.info/dash/bejne/imyXz8Smp6mnnJs.html) or A Quick Death In Texas (kzread.info/dash/bejne/aIeemZiec9yckco.html). Cheers!
