I just realized on my 12th or so listen that that badass walk up riff that makes up the second part of the chorus is a callback to what MISA is doing at end of that crazy main riff. This is like what they did with Wonderland - took one musical motif and used it a variety of ways. I loooooove that they're taking their music to the next level like this. It's not that their songs ever sounded like cool pieces glued together, far from it, but this is the kind of songwriting skill that lets them get away with crazy shit like this and have it sound like it was all part of a plan. I'm so stoked for the new album.

A couple of guys have commented that is a resource used by Bach in his Toccata and Fugue in Re Minor. Fast rythm in one hand, notes at 1/8 rythm in the other. I wouldn't be surprised, this is Japan. In some Unlucky Morpheus songs you can find classical music resources in their violin arrangements. But of course, they use a violin. The really exciting thing about this arrangement on this song is that Kanami does it all with ONE ELECTRIC GUITAR.

I'm late but just wanted to mention that akane's drumming in the second half of the chorus is truly amazing. She goes into half time but her accent hits on the snare keep the urgency that the first half has and makes you question if you ever went into halftime in the first place. Such a sick use of tempo control.

Yeah they are incapable to disappoint :) You know what? It's different, yes, but at the same time, no, not really. Listen to "Screaming" and "Dilemma", this right here is like the chaotic little kid of those two. Awesome song! Love it! And boy does it stuck in my head but ... listen to the two mentioned above :) (I am a sucker for punk and ska anyway) And guess what... They released their "Don't be long" instrumental as the supporting song on "Different"-Single. They played it on the last US tour, and finally released it officially. And the best part - they actually perfected it! It's polished, sounds sooooo good! (it's pretty much normal at this point that their "B-sides" are even better...) BTW Miku can write "PaPaPa" all she wants - all we hear (and read) is "Po! Po! Po!" :D PS: this is their last song with "Revolver Record". They are changing the label. "Different" won't be on their next upcoming album (january). It's also a song made as the opening for the anime "Log Horizon"

YEEES I was waiting for this reaction! EDIT: Now that I've seen the video, I commented the same on another reaction, I think there's only one song that has a similar "chaotic" riff, and that's 'Screaming', is a pretty old song (from their first single I think). I just can't WAIT to see this song played live, specially with the amount of Miku vocals the song have, on live performances her voice stands up a lot more. And if this is not a show opener, I don't know what it is. And yeah, Akane was, is, and it's going to be an absolute beast on those drums (and she's rocking a longer hair, that is... y'know... hot. But I miss her little hat) Oh, they also released another song today, an instrumental, it's called "Don't be long", I think is not on KZread yet, I only saw it on Spotify.

You might find this interesting even if you don't do a reaction video. Miku and Kanami talk about this song and more. Something I found really interesting is that Kanami said that she wrote "Don't Be Long" (the b-side instrumental that was released with "Different") in a way that would help Miku learn how to play "Different." Apparently, "Different" requires Miku to do some things she had never done before. The closed captioning is in English so you can follow the conversation. A very cool look into Band-Maid. @

They have a song that is similar, frantically speaking. It's called Screaming (edit) and it's the "b-side" of the Start Over single. There isn't a video, but it is on the last live blu-ray (song three). The "b-side" of this (don't be Long) is spectacular too. Easily the equal of this, but instrumental. While other bands whine about not touring, what are they doing? Three on-line live performances, a live blu-ray/dvd release, a single, a double album, always new merch.....they cannot and will not be stopped.

Is quite funny, they have all been in lockdown obviously, so Kanami's sending all her demo's over the internet to fellow band members including this one. Akane, Drums (Tokyo School of Music Grad) plus at least 6 other instruments, sent reply "This is HARD". In this recording Kanami plays both lead and rhythm guitar and wrote the B side to this single, an instrumental which is AWESOME, so Miku could practice her Diminished 7th chords at speed so She could perfom it live! What a Guitarist Sensei ! .... Misa, also (Tokyo School of Music Grad), "Whatever" :)

Was looking forward to your reaction and you didn't disappoint--the "ahhhh....ahh god, jesus christ" at the end killed me and totally sums it the hell up....this is truly an all-time mindblower. It was indeed too much for me on first listen but by the third listen it became pretty clear that this is an absolute triumph. I mean at this point just close the rock n roll hall of fame and open a new one just for these 5 geniuses.

The reason it sounds "different" (pun) than the usual rock thoroughfare is because it is for an anime intro, as some here have already mentioned. Search youtube for the anime intro of Log Horizon Season 3 or similar & you will see where the music syncs & changes with different parts of the anime intro clip. This is not the first time they have made anime music. Plus the lyrics might make a little more sense, unless you watch Log Horizon. As far as the riffs & fast rhythms, I was saying at some other reactions around youtube that it sounded familiar & finally thought it was like the proverbial circus/carnival music. And not just circus music but also a type of fast polka or something that a 19th century western classical composer might have done. If you listen to "Entry of the Gladiators" (aka "Thunder & Blazes") by Julius Fucik, the descending chromatics may sound familiar. Also listen to "Sabre Dance" by Aram Khachaturian to hear that fast Oompah Oompah beat. I also love how Saiki rap-sings here, although she does that in some other past songs but she does it a little more here as the fast beats requires it. I am not be surprised that they used this century-old style of music as at least 3 of them went to music school, so getting exposed to Western (European) & Eastern (Asian) classical music was likely a part of their syllabus.

You're surprised Kanami came up with this riff considering she came up with the riff in Screaming which is even more insane!? Kanami is just awesome with the chaos! And I think this song over so many others is an absolute testament to how beastly Akane is on drums...she just never stops!!!

I cant wait to see them and hear them live Virtually on the 13th of this month, I almost lost it when I saw this in my playlist and cant stop listening to it. Every time I listen to it I hear something I missed the previous play thru, and I can not agree with you more Akane was going Ballistic on those drums the entire song. She was playing those things like a MOB BOSS and they owed her money she was beating them so hard and fast.

It's not on the album. It's the last song for their old label Revolver and _Unseen World_ will be the first record with Pony Canyon. And though their records may lean one way or another, they are always balancing things so this madness makes me anticipate a lush, epic ballad on the album. Speaking of which, Champ, you really oughta react to at least one of "Daydreaming" or "Endless Story" before the album drops, probably the former as affection for it seems to be surging lately across YT.

just 2 things...since Kanami asked Akane to do kicks at 190bpm for Rinne Akane stopped cutting her hair i swear she has samson blood..2 i think that smoke in the background wasnt an effect it was the amps shorting and the drum kick spontaneously combusting from the pure speed and talent

This was actually an opening for an Anime called Log Horizon: Destruction of the Round Table. The Opening is Here: www6.nhk.or.jp/anime/special/special.html?i=10060 It is assumed that this was recorded while they were making Conqueror. This is because in an interview, Kanami made an instrumental called "Don't be long" (which is the Side-B of the Different Single) and was used to train Miku to handle the complexities of Different. Of course Miku didn't know at first (Haha) We only have fancams for Don't be long: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h6J3rbyTf9Kvh8o.html The studio version is awesome: open.spotify.com/track/7yKit73HABg7GsiRVxKJ9t?si=uG7BoEJ0QAGyRWsfsGvEqQ

Exactly what I said when I commented on the MV link yesterday yesterday. The visuals remind of the Domination MV as well with the "circling" camera - but the guts riff of the song is almost identical to Screaming. Which is NOT a criticism BTW....just "different" enough......
