To close the circle you only need to watch the live version of Studio Coast 2017. You will be surprised no matter how much you know the song and its versions. Oh, and you'll fall in love again with MISA, dancing with her bass under the dim light... just like the rest of us.

"Awkward" is an absolute Tour De Force. "Akasimahen" takes it to the next level, whatever level THAT is. 🕊

The highlight moment for me in this song….is the moment where Saiki takes a deep breath! Peace and Respect from 🇨🇦

Akasimahen has been my current favourite for a while now. It's just so beautiful. And that drawn out sigh by Saiki kills me every time!

Kanami composes all of Band Maid's songs. For the song "Akasimahen" , an alternative version of "Awkward", Kanami informed the studio technicians what traditional instrumentation she wanted and worked with them to bring her vision to life.. It evokes such a different time and place, even more than their other Band Maiko songs. I will say that Kanami's abilities can defined in one word: GENIUS! 🎴

In the live version when that riff continues through the second verse it is played by Kanami, Miku and Misa together and sounds so good

For me, I find this particular song one of Saiki's most delicate and beautiful tones, it truly allows her vocals to shine, and the spectacular calmness of the flute and other traditional instruments...good grief it's wonderful. And what Fernando's Hideaway! said- that breathy pause of hers, auuugh my heart just melts.

This is a rare example of dynamic arrangement in rock music- the vocal lines stay the same but the backing music is different for each verse and chorus. The final guitar solo by Kanami is the most majestic you'll hear in rock. Pre-ordered the new EP yesterday.

Glad you liked awkward... when i listen to it on my playlist, i feel almost guilty for liking it more than some of their other more original sounding compositions. I think it's the arrangement and variations between the verses that makes it so pleasing to listen to. Knowing other ppl like it too makes me feel less guilty haha.

Totally agree. I found them and fell in love with the hard rock. But their softer sound is utterly breathtaking. A lot of their softer songs are my favourites.

Easily one of my fav songs in JBI. Kanami writes the most beautiful rock ballads and Miku’s lyrics give it more sentiments.

Yeah, that's at least one violin there. Having Kanami come in with that dirty-but-oh-so-beautiful guitar tone is worth a dozen of chef's kisses.

MISA MISA MISA! the "Just Bring It" album was recorded BEFORE Sai-chan had the surgery, which probably accounts for the Vocal differences

Both these versions are on my "BAND-MAID - Mellow" playlist....The only track which appears twice in the same playlist. It's also the playlist I listen to most.

They certainly brought out the ethereal in the first part of the Maiko version.

its not a band made riff its a kanami made riff hehehehe. i always say how i love going into each verse you take a little part of what had just come before so the song builds right up to the end. The 2017 tour concert version is my favorite version of this. With babymetal's "Trilogy of light" I want consider Band Maid's okyu-ji Trilogy to be Puzzle, Moratorium and Awkward

Like 3 distinct songs, all super catchy. I love the main guitar riff and the (what? > transitional riff - da da da da, da da da da*.) And the always surprising, complex timing. *In the XMas acoustic version, Misa tips her hat to the da-da-da-da... riff on her bass. And yeah I agree: this is Saiki's vocals at their sweetest.
