Banavie Swing Bridge

Overlooked by Ben Nevis at the bottom of Neptunes Staircase is the Banavie Swing Bridge built in 1970.
This hydraulically operated bridge crosses the Caledonian Canal at Banavie, North of Fort William.
Neptunes Staircase is the longest staircase lock in Britain, lifting boats 64 feet (20 m).
It consists of eight locks and it takes boats about 90 minutes to pass through the system.
Our drone footage captures this amazing feat of engineering in the beautiful Scottish Highlands.
These spectacular aerial shots are part of our Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology project.
