After having a very frustrating experience with the Neptune 3, I decided to return and and brought an A1 about a month ago. Loved it so much that I decided to buy the AMS lite. It is great and I would absolutely recommend anyone to just buy the combo from the start. Even if you dont want to do multicolor printing, the multimaterial printing is great for supports. The PVA material is great for effortlessly removing supports on complex parts.

I think the AMS Lite is a very good upgrade! I might get one just to avoid changing spools even though I'm currently not planning to do multicolor prints. Thanks for the video! You are doing great! It's not that important, but if you want to up the quality of your videos, you can invest in a small key light to light yourself. No need to spend a lot of money, but it can make a big difference. Or use a normal lamp with as close to daylight color temperature as you can get indirectly by pointing it a a white wall to create a soft light source.

Actually the new Anycubic Kobra 3 Combo seems a better deal for me. While the waste is basicly the same, the ACE is more like Bambulabs AMS, not the AMS light - but better. It is also a filament dryer for 4 spools. I got the earlyadopters price (449€ minus 10€ coupon) and it will be delivered in about a week. The big advance of the ACE is it being basicly printer independend. The main point of the AMS and AMS light is the use of a "filament buffer" which in reality only buffers a few mm. A slider with magnet and a hall-sensor detects if the AMS feeder needs to deliver more or less filament. It´s actually less a buffer but a "feeder synchronicer". On Bambulabs X1C, P1P and P1S the "buffer" sits on the side on the printer. On the A1 and A1 mini it sits on the top (and joins the 4 tubes). Anycubic places 4 "buffers" on their ACE. On top of the printhead only is a "joiner" for the 4 tubes. Also the Kobra 3 is said to use open source klipper, and Anycubic already anounced their plan to make the ACE usable with other printers. As the filament synchronicing is done by the ACE (and not by the printer like on Bambulabs mashines) this sounds very plausible. All the printer has to do, is to tell the ACE wich filament to load and unload it if it is not needed anymore. Due to the path-joiner on top of the printhead, there is not much filament pushed back into the ACE, so the complex backroling the AMS uses is not needed. So basicly the communication of the printer to the ACE basicly is a serial port + power for the logic. If more details about the ACE are released and you can use it on other printers, the ACE has a very nice advantage: With standard flow integrated nozzle/heatbreak combos (Revo, Nextruder, TUN, K1C unicorn nozzle etc) you get a very nice filament tip by using ramping profiles. So you do not need cut&poo. This ist the method Prusa uses on their MMU2 and MMU3. Much less waste and much less time for changing the filament. Even a 7 year old mk3+MMU2 is faster at small full multicolour prints than any Bambulab, due to the very short time for filament changes. If you use an other printer with easy to change nozzle, you could use a standard flow nozzle for multicolour, but high-flow nozzle for single colour. So you get rid of waste and changing time, while still be able to use the printer fast. So while I think your video is nice, I also think it is about 2 months late. With the new Kobra 3 and esp. the ACE I see no reason to buy an A1 with AMS light anymore (I have one). The Kobra 3 Combo is about the same price as the A1 Combo, but also contains a filament dryer for 4 filaments. A seperate filament dryer would cost about 150€ (for 4 spools). So a good deal. This does not mean the A1 + AMS light is bad. It is quite nice, esp. for beginners. But the development in the market is so fast, you already can get a better printer combo - esp. for multicolour - for the same price. As beginner friendly as the A1 combo, but more "futureproof". I can´t wait to use the ACE on a Qidi X3 or a Voron. Or even on a Prusa mk4 (instead of the MMU3).

@@jet_lea A used Prusa mk4 would be a problem, as it is on the market just a year now. I realy love the Nextruder. The print quality is quite nice - the best of all my 3d printers. However, my A1 mini is very near if it comes to the look of the prints. The mk3(s(+)) (yes, I started with the original mk3 and did all the upgrades) is a reliable printer, but the A1 prints look slightly better (or nearly the same after upgrading to a zOrbiter 2 extruder). All theese printers work so well, it realy depends on filament quality (esp. if its dry enough). The printer I use the most actually is my Qidi X-Max 3 with activly heated chamber, as I print a lot of ABS nowerdays. Mostly parts to upgrade other printers ;-) The active heated chamber realy is a gamechanger if you print other materials than PLA and PET-G. However, there is always a downside, no printer is perfect. The X-Max 3 is not for beginners imho. I had quite a lot problems with the z-bearings. I changed them and deactivated z-hop, this improved print quality. Also I fixed a bit in Klippers config (unload sequence). For a beginner, bambulab printers are quite nice. However, my hobby is more 3d-printer-tinkering than 3d printing ;-)

Have you seen any 3D printed cases or enclosures for ai mini? Any dust issues with the a1 mini?

I wipe the build plate before every print to avoid any issues but I haven’t seen any printable enclosures. Only ones for the ams system or non-3d printed ones.

My man, you should have filled the whole plate with poker chips and it would have produced more chips but with the same amount of poop! 😅 I love my A1 combo so far, it’s only been a week but AMS is great. I don’t do a lot of multicolor prints but the convenience of auto-switching to the same color once a spool is finished off as well as just have 4 colors ready to go at any time is super cool.

That’s super good to know! It makes sense, I just never thought about that before :) I’m in the same boat as you, very few multi color prints but i love not having to swap out spools every time I want to use a different color filament

@@jet_lea totally - if it’s a particularly wasteful print there’s some other things you can do (like splitting into separate parts if possible), and printing them by object (instead of by layer), or as I said just print more of them since it’s the same color changes regardless of the number of items. I’m blown away with these A1s, they’re so much fun to print with. Cheers!

How can the AMS be usable long term when all the filaments are exposed to humidity in the room it is stored?

I live in an extremely dry environment so I don’t foresee an issue however there are many printable enclosures for the ams lite that allow for desiccants to be used to keep humidity down. I can make a video testing them out if you’d like!

It’s a valid concern but there are plenty of places where humidity is not a big issue, or you can also unload and load them each time as it does not take long once you get comfortable with it.

You can 3d print dry boxes, or put the entire thing into a dry box. The guy who made the model has a video titled "A1mini ams lite FILAMENT DRY BOX." They are a pain to print but it does work very well and looks good. I printed one to keep my PVA filament dry and it does its job well.

You need to plan what kind of print you looking for. I only do layer type multi color print and waste are limited.

The trick is to print multiples and use settings like purge to infill and having a purge object on the plate rather than a purge tower. Printing more, but at least the purge stuff is going to a useful print instead of the trash.
