    Always a pleasure, to watch the review of a sharp medical doctor, who truly aims at being objective and has non whatsoever hidden financial interests in his beloved hobby. It is important to add that Baltany claims that the hands are not painted in blue, but in fact heat-treated. That's to be appreciated, given the price.

    Thanks for that mate - glad you enjoy the content! Heat treatment is nice… but still… I don’t think it makes a good match for this dial

    Definitely looks a well made watch for a great price. Great looking movement. Personally can't stand California dials, and the numeral dial doesn't do it for me either. Not liking sterile dials either, this was never gonna be on my Christmas list. But a good well made homage, as long as you like what's being hommaged. Your bird friend 🐦 certainly had something to say about it on the video 👍

    I don’t like California dials either but I do like the Panerai plain numeral style that audaciously leaves out the chapter ring (no minute markings whatsoever).

    It’s a replica of a 1936 PAM 249, that’s why it has blued hands. The original contains a Unitas movement, that’s also where they got their inspiration from. The PAM 00448 with the 3 day power reserve also has this dial.

    A non-hacking movement in a watch with no second hand isn't significant. I bought the Baltany 1926 Oyster tribute watch, with a Seagull ST1701 movement. Unfortunately, it it's not as accurate as the Seagull movement used by the watch in this video - on my wrist, it loses at least 24 secs in a 24 hour period. Off the wrist in a dial up position it GAINS at least 45 seconds in a 24 hour period. In a crown up or crown down position it loses between 10 and 15 seconds in 24 hours.

  • @PerthWAtch

    @PerthWAtch

    Жыл бұрын

    Yeah that’s rather bad accuracy and regulation… I wonder if you can self regulate it better. The 1000 series I think is their lowest grade so perhaps it’s not too surprising.

    I've considered getting one of the Baltany watches in a wearable size and may do it eventually. This one is much too big for my wrist, not to mention I think it's one of their ugliest.

    Haha this a good example of how beauty is in the eye of the beholder! The Radiomir is classic and unquestionable popular - I like the shape and I’m gonna see if I can get the numeral dial which I like better!

    @@PerthWAtch : the 'Seagull's ST-3600' of this BALTANY, seems to be like an UNITAS, made in China by SEA GULL and fitted in a 'Lepine' (small seconds at 9), mechanic, hand winding, made by SEA GULL. I own an unit and other UNITAS caliber, (small seconds at 6), as well.

    This is a perfect example of a watch I'd buy for 150€ as a fun "once in a while" piece, but I would never buy the real thing even if money was no object. I love california dials, I love cousin cases, but the fascist past of panerai kinda stops me from buying even a homage.

    @@PerthWAtch I would not buy a homepage watch because if the value and reliability of the real watch compared to the homepage watch. Also, I would have buyers regret not saving enough for the real item. Yes a homepage watch is cheaper and can last for some time. Scratching the initial itch. But every time I would see the real watch I would still want it but I already used monies, I could have saved, for the homage watch.

  • @PerthWAtch

    If $150 makes a different to your purchase of a $10k watch, then perhaps you shouldn’t be thinking about the real thing. As mentioned homage is also a good way to get a feel for the real thing, how it sits and looks on you. And hey, if that small percentage makes that much of a difference to you, you can always sell the homage after getting the real thing.
