#5 West Bloomfield: 42
#14 Southfield A&T: 28
In one of the most anticipated matchups of elite offenses, OAA Rivals West Bloomfield and Southfield A&T met on third Friday of October. Both teams entered at 6-1, and both could meet again in the Division 1 state playoffs.
In a game that was billed for elite offense, the story of the night became the West Bloomfield defense, specifically their secondary. The Lakers secondary held talented Southfield A&T junior QB Isiah Marshall to 8-26 in the passing game, 123 yards, 1 touchdown, and two interceptions. Both interceptions came courtesy of West Bloomfield's Mr. Everything, Semaj Morgan. The senior is committed to play wide receiver at the University of Michigan, but his impact on this game was felt everywhere but his natural position.
Due to an injury to junior starter Reqez Nance, Morgan was pressed into part time quarterback duty, where he was a serviceable 5-9, for 77 yards, and one huge touchdown pass in the closing seconds of the second quarter. Defensively, Morgan was all over the field. His 83-yard interception return for a touchdown was the highlight of the night, and broke the backs of the AT& Warriors. Morgan and fellow senior Deonte Pippen were excellent in coverage, holding Southfield A&T to their lowest passing output of the season.
Southfield's Isaiah Marshall rushed for 130 yards on 14 carries, and 2 touchdowns. West Bloomfield senior running back, and Grand Valley State commit, Kenneth Jones rushed for 125 yards and 2 touchdowns on 17 carries.
The broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit was called by Evan Stockton (play-by-play), former Grand Valley State national champion Justin Cessante (analyst), and Natalie Kerwin (reporter).
