Ballinasloe Fair 2018 - My Lovely Horse Rescue volunteers spent Sunday and Monday at the fair.
There are horses on sale in good condition. But all is not good.
The mistreatment of animals and the condition some of the animals are being kept/transported in is shocking.
Some of the cruelty is beyond belief.
The sheer amount of animals being bred and worth so little (2 donkeys for as little as €20)… their lives worth nothing to some people who just DON'T CARE.
Horses tethered for long periods (including President of Ireland / Uachtarán na hÉireann Michael D. Higgins was photographed with in the Irish Times).
Sick dogs with mange and no microchips/papers.
Loose horses in the crowd, stallions being led past mares who had foals at foot.
We reported incidents to An Garda Síochána and Ispca onsite. The ISPCA did act on reports and did seize animals.
However, their powers of search and seizure are limited.
Animals are moved into vehicles, some hidden easily.
All dogs for sale are not being checked by the Galway County Council Council Dog Warden for microchips BEFORE being sold. This does not help the situation.
MLHR will be contacting various authorities.
We demand major improvements for 2019.

I know me and my friends are getting a horse and I asked if we can get rescues because the cruel things people do to them all animals need more respect
This is just so disgusting 🤢 animals don’t deserve any of this it literally breaks my heart 💔 #STOPANIMALABUSE 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
what can I do? are petitions useful? this is disgusting and I thought things had improved why are there no police there?

My Lovely Horse Rescue thank you I emailed a galway td, galway counsellor and the fair organisers. there is a lost of sponsors on the fair website will be emailing those too

They probably have improved. Its just still not all good though.
When I was on one of the fair rides very close to this I just remember seeing men hitting a poor little horse and it broke my heart
So sad to see this

Rspca were there to make sure everything was looked after

Big Balls 2018 well they failed to do their job unfortunately, or they didn't have enough support/manpower from the gairdai
