Ballasting A Shunting Layout | Ep17
Ойын-сауық
Ballasting is a Topic which some avoid, struggle with or don’t mind. This video will show you how simple it is and what you need to achieve it. I find it relaxing just give yourself ample time and you will be fine.

Great video addition to this series - I know I was always a bit scared of how it will look before you make a start, and then you go on a train/metro journey and realise how haphazard and randomly scattered actual ballast is!! Even when it has just been freshly laid, it's still not "perfect" (whatever that may mean in this sense!). Hope you're well Tris 🙂 Cheers! Rich
Looks great Tris coming along nicely
i got nothing with model trains, but luv to listen to your voice 🥰
Nice video Tris. Nice to see the track ballasted. I like the use of the different colours of ballast. I recon it's something I'll do for my layout. - Nicholas.
Like the different coloured ballast makes it look that more realistic ....another idea I'm gonna nick Tris
Great video again Tris - nice tip re the different coloured ballasts
I think the use of different colours of ballast has worked really well. Looking forward to seeing you blend it in with weathering.
Good video . Must get mine done
More nice work and a great video ✌️👍💜😊
I really like the pinky ballast. I can't recall ever seeing it in real life but a lot of ballast is made from granite and a lot of granite has a pink colour. I'm sure it was used on the network at different times and places. Also varying the ballast colors is very prototypical and adds interest to a layout. Nice progress Triss.

There is pinky ballast near spalding station in Lincolnshire
I've so many locomotives in my collection. I can't decide which one to send to you to have done with smoke and cylinder drains and sound
Great video. Explaining the different types of ballast was really helpful, along with the clear step by step approach. The “wetting agent” you apply before the pva/water mix is callled iso…..? Just checking what I need to ask for in my local model shop?

Great thanks, another lesson learnt!😀
Are you still up for the idea of naming your micro layout as Hatton’s Gas & Fuel Works as a tribute to Hatton’s Model Railways?

Just no. They didn’t die. I don’t get this irrational, over emotional reaction. Plenty of models shops out there. I feel for the employees of course but let’s get some perspective.
Great video... can I ask how you are operating the points?

Good question, I used 50/50 mix as used by many KZreadrs and it seemed a bit too thick to me.
