This instrument has to be one of the most underrated instruments. In the hands of a skilled virtuoso it’s one of the most beautiful instruments I’ve heard.
When the strings are plucked, I feel the strings of my heart are being plucked. Though my ancestors left Africa hundreds of years ago, I can feel the blood running into my veins.

I don't know what it is about kora music that makes me emotional, but man, this stuff gets me deep. Reminds me of the liminal space when you're laying on the grass in summer, eyes almost shut, getting impressions of sunlight dancing. And a journey. All mixed in together. Just beautiful.

RIP Toumani Diabete - Sona Jobarteh's uncle, both from 2 of the greatly revered griot Kora families from West Africa, carrying the tradition of this amazing music from father to son for 1420 years in Toumani's family .
South Africa approves,,, its not the amount of vocals in a song, its where you place them,,,, thanks sister Sona and brother Ballake for blessing my soul,,,

Mandinka and Djeli. the Proper name for the Mandinka people is Mandinka, the proper title for the Dogon keeper of Dogon history is Djeli. Mandingo is the European bastardization of the name Mandinka, and Griot is the French term for Djeli. Something is always lost in translation, and that is why the original should always be used.

Sona, I fell in love with Kora because of you. Being me a journalist who host musical programme on my station (KSMC) Nigeria, tittled, Music Across the Globe, I find you as one of my favourite artistes I feature twice every week. Please, keep up to good work. Kora is a healer, esp that of Jorbarteh. I lov you Sona, muah!😘
Such beautiful sounds. Music is the true international language and it should remind us of the potential and incredible talent that human beings possess. I spent some years in Africa (Nigeria) as a child and long to go back someday before I die. It has always had a presence in my home, even today as I grow older here in the US.

Mesmerized by the music.. There are so many amazing musicians all over Africa. I was lucky enough to have lived in a couple of countries in Africa and I am infatuated with the different music styles you get to hear from different corners of the continent. Hope we get to see more African artists perform here in India, cos the music which comes from all over Africa is simply Magic. Lots of love to you guys for coming up with such lovely songs. :)
Cool ✊
This is classical African music; no written down notes but what the soul spontaneously feels while maintaining the rythm constant.
Ive never heard of this type of instrument or it sound .. I am mesmerized and amazed at its complexity... its sound and the vocals of the Blessed musicians are incredible.
Gorgeous!
Two peaceful musicians, two blissful koras and one lovely voice ☀️🌈💜☀️

According to my father the kora instrument was not touched nor played by women, however, Sona has defied the myth and she is so good on this
