I don't know what it is about kora music that makes me emotional, but man, this stuff gets me deep. Reminds me of the liminal space when you're laying on the grass in summer, eyes almost shut, getting impressions of sunlight dancing. And a journey. All mixed in together. Just beautiful.

Mandinka and Djeli. the Proper name for the Mandinka people is Mandinka, the proper title for the Dogon keeper of Dogon history is Djeli. Mandingo is the European bastardization of the name Mandinka, and Griot is the French term for Djeli. Something is always lost in translation, and that is why the original should always be used.
