This movie influenced me so much as a teen. After seeing it, I wore silver glitter on my eyelids to school the next day 😄. I had already loved Bowie and other glam music, but Shudder to Think did a fantastic job on emulating that vibe as well. Love this soundtrack!

I had the soundtrack to velvet goldmine on CD growing up, it’s truly incredible. The film is so much fun, but the music really completes it. I’m not usually someone who likes covers, but the quality control in this was really good, probably thanks to Michael Stipe’s involvement from a musical end. I’m glad I still have that CD, as a lot of the songs (like this one) aren’t on Spotify.

yeah the super groups that did the covers were rad too, they featured folks from suede, placebo, some members of roxy music and I think maybe pulp? real cool stuff

I went to a screening of Velvet Goldmine a week and a half ago, and Craig Wedren performed this song and "Hot One" live before the film. It was just amazing. I've loved this soundtrack and film for so long.

the whole movie is pretty much a homage to David Bowie, his life and culture shocking music and personality, and the main musical character in the movie (Maxwell Demon) is a mirror to Bowie's Ziggy Stardust.......Curt Wylde was written based on the life and career of Iggy Pop, and Jack Fairie was based on Lou Reed........but yes.......David Bowie indeed.....=)

Curt Wylde is a mixture of Iggy Pop and Lou Reed (hence the Michigan origin and electroshock therapy story). Brian Slade while uses more of David Bowie life, is actually a mixture of another glam rock singer named Jobriath (hence why Brian was open about his sexuality).

The reason why they used the actual musicians versions on the soundtrack is because it SOUNDS WAY better... anyone that thinks the actors versions are anywhere close to belter than the original version is mire than likely just a casual listener of music...

We know why we are all here. It's consistent from begining to end, even making me a fan of some acts I would never listen to otherwise. But we also all know that Shudder To Think is the lynchpin of the album. What could of been painfully hokey in the wrong hands turned into two tracks that will live forever along with UK glam scene.
