A while back, I was approached to create an "interesting" bulletin board for an independent school here in Los Angeles. I had been looking for an excuse to do a kinetic sculpture, so I proposed creating a ball roll that integrated their event notices and photos.
Combining a dynamic and reliable ball roll with easy-to-update calendar and picture frames within the 1/2" thick confines of a '60s style bulletin board was quite a challenge. While the end result is intentionally spare and seemingly simple, it represents about 1,600 hours of effort.
Happily, the end product has been effective in drawing an audience and bringing their attention to the many fun events at the school. I hope that you enjoy watching this short video of the sculpture in action.
