Great video. Thanks for showing what tubs you use. It seems like the newer style tubs are longer and narrower over all (vs. the raditional 28qt, v70, etc.). I generally use over-sized tubs but provide RBI hides that are appropriately sized for the snake. I even have some adult females in v70s that are so shy they want a hide. On the other end of the spectrum, I have a huge emale dinnamon that would always push in a v70.. I moved her to an AP 4'x2' cage with RBI hides and now she does not "push" any more...Uses her hides and will often even be half out of the hide in the day time and will crawl around. I think if I was to try this setup with one of my super shy females, they would not do nearly as well in it, so it is really all about what works for the animal.

So a question from a novice here. I’ve seen FB tubs with ventilation and no ventilation….when should you use which? I noticed the hatchling tubs had ventilation but yearling on up didn’t and I know that there is actually ventilation through the top of the tub. Guess what I’m trying to ask is for ball pythons or yearling or so boas, any reason to get the FB tubs with extra ventilation?

Do you think this actually has more to do with imprinting of the snake's brain? Like they start out in these containers and become comfortable with them? I have a ball python hatchling and put it in a live vivarium. He spends 90% of his time beneath an appropriately sized price of cork bark, but he does seem to enjoy exploring all of his available space during the night/very early morning. He's eating well and appears healthy. The reason I'm asking is because even though the rack system could be considered the ethical best practice for breeders, it may be in fact more beneficial to the snake(s) over the course of its life in a non-breeding situation to have access to more space. Honest question. Not trying to harp on the system.

I would say it has more to do with expenses and also space tanks take more space and cost more per a snake that's why I think they use racks instead of tanks but that's my opinion from what I've had for me alot cheaper to do racks then tanks

I watched a video about keeping ball pythons from Snake discovery, she's not against racks and tubs but she's not at all for this guld of enclosures instead she seems to be for rather cluttered enclosures to make them feel safe instead of dark tubs and talked about they need both day and night light, even that they benefit from UVB. She mentioned too that enrichement is very important, that's why I wonder why he doesn't have any enrichement, even just putting in a Cork mot wouldn't be that expensive for a breeder? I totally understand that breeders can't have big PVC vivariums for their adult snakes but I wonder why he's not honest and say that he's talking about breeders, it would be very sad if someone with just one pet snake saw this and thought it was okay to Keep a pet in a tiny dark box with zero enrichement. Like I said I'm not talking against tubs and racks but it's scientific that snakes att least need to be able to completely stretch out (clearly his can't) and that they benefit from hidesand enrichement and of course you can't just put a snake in a big cage with nothing in it. Anyway I like that snake discovery even if she's a breeder talks to people who Keep them as pets, many others seem to just have breeders in like and don't consider that most who watch probably just keep them as pets.

Have you ever considered that feeding and mating work better in the rack because all other environmental stimuli are missing in the rack?!? There is simply nothing else to experience, feel and do. It's like saying, "This person is a couch potato, he spends most of his time in his one-room apartment anyway." Then you would keep this person captive in his apartment without the possibility to go outside the door. And then you would only allow visitors in a controlled manner and remove all other charms from the apartment. Nothing would be offered to this person other than food and sex. What do you think? This human would jump at any opportunity to mate and eat because he would have nothing else to do! And that's exactly what you do with your animals, which you love so much!? You don't treat them like pets, you treat them like objects, like collectibles. You even call it a "collection" and when you breed you call it "producing". All these snakes in the rack do is just exist. This is incredibly sad...

I know that if I buy juveniles ill have to provide an additional hide inside since the tubs will be too large for juveniles. Im just trying to think ahead and since I'm just starting I dont see myself able to purchase new racks as they grow. Would love your opinion. Thank you!! The minimum size enclosure for a ball python is a 4x2x2x

I agree. Infact, a 6x4x2 is even better! A happy ball python is boring to watch. You've got to stress them out a bit, so they'll actually move around and do stuff. All that extra space is important, if you want your ball python to act like a more active species. I mean, you could just GET a more active species to begin with but that's not nearly as much fun, right?

In the wild, ball pythons move around at dawn and dusk. Multiple studies show this, and even Dav's documentary says this. Denying them the ability to choose to move is not ideal.

They move around when they have to, to hunt and mate. When they're nested near a rodent path, they'll stay put and hunt right from the opening of their den. Even Dăv's documentary says this.

I don’t know the difference between a small tub and a snake that never leaves it’s hide but to eat or drink it’s the same thing especially to the pea brained snakes.

You can't possibly justify what you're doing with the tight dark enclosure logic. Though I understand for mass breeders tubs are the most ideal setup due the insane amount of time you need to take care of a snake, but a tub is seriously nowhere near the ball python's natural habitat. There is no reason you should allow ball pythons to only perform 80% of their natural behavior when you can do 100% and give them a fulfilling life, instead of a egg making machine stuck in a drawer forever.
