Excellent. Clear, direct and easily understandable. I appreciate the explanation of the ball postion in relation to the sternum.
I've played for all of a week. This single video has helped me endlessly. I'm not saying I'm ready for a game but I watched this last night and the difference on the range today was incredible
Job well done. This is by far the most clear and comprehensive ball position video I have seen yet. I love how you address the ball position relative to the the feet, hips, sternum (zipper), shoulders, and hands!
Chris, another great video. Very clear about ball position for each club! Never thought about body/zipper position during setup.
Your comment at end is right on point! Swing path and club head at impact will determine ball flight. Everyone is different, spending time hitting balls will develop each individual ball position based on their swing type. Good video!
Really a great explanation, and at least gives anyone a starting point to make those small adjustments to one’s personal swing you mentioned at the end. Thanks man!
Entry-level topic with utterly important roles in golf, especially the swing path based adjustment at the end. True lesson.

This was great, I have been researching "is my iron shot the same as my driver" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Reyuhaffad Underlying Recognition - (should be on google have a look ) ? It is a great one of a kind guide for discovering how to revealing an effortless golf swing technique without the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my neighbour got excellent success with it.
Very pleased with what he said and easy to understand
This video is really good. ball position is absolute key for me. Thanks Chris
Really glad I found this video, I was in fact leaning toward the ball after moving my stance relative to my feet. Cant wait to get the the range to work on this stuff

Thanks for an excellent refresher review and how to alter it depending on swing path tendencies! How a great day!
Nice balance of big-picture details and micro details. Thank you...
Thanks Chris. Such a challenging but fantastic game 🇿🇦⛳️
Thank-you Chris very good explanation ,allways good to go back at our ball position sometimes we tend to forget about it!
I like the fact that you explained why we should do it a certain way
The path-position tip at the end explains a lot. Your (and other instructors) recommended club specific ball positions are too forward for me. But my path tends to the left so now I know why I get better results moving the ball back in my stance. Thanks.
As good as golf instruction gets on KZread. Clear, easy explanations and good visual demonstrations. Been playing 30+ years and wished I'd come across this before now. Thanks

What this guy said ☝🏻! Thanks for a great instructional video.
By far the best video on this topic that I’ve come across!!! Clarified so much for me. Cheers 👏
Great lesson Chris. I just love the way you teach ! It works for me . Thank you :)
Another excellent video for us beginners. One of your vids on driver address seems to have fixed my slice off the tee so very appreciative 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thanks Chris...very useful tips
nice video, great job again Chris👍🏻
Thanks Chris. This is very important. I will apply this to my next round. Best regards from South Africa 🇿🇦
Thank you so much, lovely and clear.
Great tips again Chris.
Great insights. Thanks
Great presentation.
This is very good, Chris. Thank you for this. It is very clear, and something I can really use as a start a new golf season in the northern U.S.

Thank you. I had forgotten to incorporate my sternum in the stance
This video is ridiculously timed. I was just about to search for this exact topic over the weekend. Now I don't need to search. Thanks man! Also, loved the course vlog with Mr. Finch!

good basic instruction for beginners or a refresher for setting up
Excellent, thanks.
Really great explanation
Superb videos Chris Ryan, they are very informative and useful. Regards Erik, Norway (12,3 hcp - hoping to break 10,0 :D )
This is a great video, thanks Chris. I started a channel because I felt like no one was really speaking for the "average guy" that golfs a couple weekends a year. You did a really good job of, for lack of a better term, dumbing it down to a level that I can understand shooting mid-90s, my dad would relate to shooting low 80s, and a pro would appreciate shooting scratch. Just found you today, already gave you a sub :)
Fantastic!
Thanks man!
Thanks Chris,helped considerably.

I really want to play golf thanks for your help 😃
Everyone wastes time with Logos, Branding, Music, Product references, Etc., 1:41 before we touch on the subject matter. Isn't, obvious that we want the subject matter up first? You've done a great job with the subject and it's made a difference.
Some very good points in there Chris. Even tho I'm a steady holder this is still something I wonder about although you have confirmed what I have been doing is right... Means I can play with touch more confidence now. Cheers!

Winner of a video, been searching for "golf playing" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Keniden Benilliam Release - (search on google ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my co-worker got excellent results with it.
Thanks for a great illustration. Just returned to golf after 4 years (and not easy at all), but found here the reason to hitting right of the target in my set-up and general poor performance.. wil Prakrit my stands the next few weeks.. Greetings from Denmark
brilliant
Thanks Chris - what about 3 & 5 fairway woods...?
What about shaft lean at address or do you only apply that in the downswing/impact point?
I went out today and tried this really big noticeable difference

Have you heard people talk about - Reyuhaffad Underlying Recognition - (do a search on google ) ? Hi Chris would you classify a five iron as a mid iron or a long iron
Your attack angle forms a straight line with left arm and club as opposed to your initial set up. Would that require some club manipulation for solid contact?
Thanks for the video surely in 2022 they have better audio recording mic’s
Jack Nicklaus says play every club off your left heel. So many schools of thought on this.

Jack didn’t have a Foresight launch monitor and as a great ball striker, Jack could hit shots like that. Sadly, we are not Jack Nicklaus
@randoshus3762

Jack played irons with virtually no bounce. If you use modern irons to hit off the left heel you'll top it every time unless you sweep every shot like Greg Norman.
@imasspeons

I've seen that strategy and I'm fairly certain you still achieve the same ball position relative to your sternum as you move through the bag because your stance gets wider and your weight distribution changes as the clubs get longer, thus moving the ball - again, relatively - further from center. Try it. Stand with slightly less than shoulder-width with wedge/9i and the ball will be just forward of center. Bit wider for 5i, it'll be just under your forward pec. Driver, it'll be just under your forward armpit.
Thank you. Ball placement is something I have been fretting about for a long time. You seem to be saying the ball stays in the same place but the back-foot and the center of the body move to the right. I can't say I understand everything you are trying to say but I will work on it. One question, where is the bottom of your swing arc in relation to the ball and your sternum?

Just for anyone reading this comment. I'm by no means an expert but based on experience the bottom of the arc will be directly below the sternum, so moving the ball forward (your sternum more behind the ball) will make it so the ball is hit at an upward angle just past the bottom of the arc. and will also give more travel in the swing distance and therefore power not to mention greater lift. Also leaning to the right (right handed) will move the bottom of the arc to the left, since your sternum will be pointing to the left and vice versa.
@jordan19862000

chubeviewer no. The only club one should hit upward on is the driver. Every other club is a downward strike
Where should you place the ball if hitting a 3 or 5 wood off the fairway? Similar to a long iron?
Had a strange sensation of deja vu :) watching this vlog

Haha, got the upload date correct eventually 👍
On thing left with ball position with a teed up ball with mid and long irons into par 3's. As the ball is sitting up off the grass should the sternum be behind the ball so you can catch the ball bottom of arc or slightly up ?
@ChrisRyanGolf

I’d try and keep everything the same in terms of ball position and swing 👍
For a fairway wood, would that position be roughly the same as the one for the long irons?
Prob one of the better videos on this subject.. Thank you

Hi Chris, how about the hybrid? What is your recommend guideline for ball position with the hybrid clubs? I have heard advice to a ball position comparable to the mid or long irons.
@chaselistorti2290

Hi bud, idk if you already figured it out, but I always put it in between where I put the 9 iron and the 3 wood, so about 4/5ths the way to your leading foot.

Test positions with an alignment stick at the range and try various spots to see what gives you the best ball flight. You are your best friend when it comes to finding out your issues.
How do you hit down on a ball better with my irons as I don’t take a divot and would like to increase my ball compression Cheers Joe
@adamstubbs4376
6 жыл бұрын
Make sure you're not sliding/swaying back during the backswing, make sure you are shifting weight towards the target during the downswing/impact, try and imagine you are aiming to hit something thats actually say a tee's length further forward than the actual ball (if that makes sense). If you can video your swing aswell, check you are not extending/lifting through impact and so moving the clubface further away from the ground.
@ItsMeHandle

I’d like to add that I fixed this for me. You may be bringing your club back too flat. I was bringing mine back too flat and once I started the back swing straight back I was able to easily get more compression on the golf ball.
I noticed that your grip is about in line with your belt buckle on all your settings ups. Am I setting up incorrect with my hands forward favouring my left leg being a right hander.
ben hogan places the bal relative to his left heel always, he only moves his right foot more to the right depending on the club

Same with Nicklaus
Wouldn't changing ball position with different clubs affect the face angle through the arc? for example if the pw is square at impact when the ball is in the middle, then the 3 iron being further along the arc would be closed.
@ChrisRyanGolf
5 жыл бұрын
As long as you set the face square at set up this won’t be an issue 👍
Chris..need a little clarification. If the ball is moved ahead of my sternum with a 4 iron, for example, are you saying I should not shift forward to align sternum with the ball? But rather, stay put and swing away and let the momentum moved me forward after impact?
@bsettle8
6 жыл бұрын
He is saying not to move sternum toward ball at setup, because you want a slightly less descending blow with longer irons and being slightly more behind the ball will achieve that.
@shrimboy7492
6 жыл бұрын
that's what i suspected... need to work on this... all my ball position are dead center.. suspect this to be the cause of my inconsistency with longer iron...
@chaselistorti2290
6 жыл бұрын
Ray Chau in a way you want less movement as possible, now when I say that I don't mean rotation, but forward to back and side to side movement and bobbing up and down, because it will change where you will be hitting, like if you shift to your back foot as you swing you will top the ball and have a worm burner... but if you put most of your weight on your heels you will hit the ball with the fat of the club. So just reposition your feet or move to the preferred placement, don't shift to hit the ball. Good luck with your game.
So can we say the ball position stays the same for all clubs, its the back foot that moves further back as the club gets longer?
What about the fairway wood?
I readjust my balls and bag before every shot but still hitting very inconsistently . . . will keep you posted.
What I don't understand is if the bottom of yiur arc is in the middle of you, with longer irons and the ball position forward how are you still able to hit down on the ball?
@ChrisRyanGolf
6 жыл бұрын
Hi Motty, the bottom of your arc will not be in the centre of you, more toward the lead ear/armpit as a guide 👍
Great tip. It's not the feet, it's the zip

Do you increase your side bend as your irons get longer?
I really just want someone to point to the area of the club face that the ball should hit on an iron. I’ve KZread’d several “how to use irons properly and strike ball” videos but it’s always about swing set up and 10 minutes long. Im new to golf. Anyone know a video that describes where ball should hit club face? Maybe like a 30 second video that says “make contact here”

I just watched this video which helps explain. Also check out his long iron video kzread.info/dash/bejne/oZmox7qKl9WXoKQ.html
How does this relate to nowadays. To hit the ball first and then the turf we need to have our sternum in front of the ball. Do I miss something here? Of course keeping in mind that this video is 2 years old
nobody ever mentions the upper body. thank you
Det ville være rart hvis der stod hvilket jern du brugte på skærmen så man kunne tage bilede
