Ball Joints Rubber Boot Easy Fix | Japanese Made Cars
Ойын-сауық
Keep your ball joints sealed for the environment. The seal used in this vid is for Japanese made car seal-ring which are thin, strong and sharp. Long nose pliers doesnt do a good job, this one will.

"Nobody wants to work in paradise." Ha! Nobody wants to work period anywhere it seems. Went to 3 mechanics and none of them wanted the job of replacing the ball joints on an old Camry. Go figure. Well, I might just try to do the job myself and save tons of money thanks to you!
The endless patience of a good mechanic is so appealing. Thank you! You're helping so many people save money!

Sometimes it is better to just replace the entire upper control arm. On my 2006 Acura TL the entire upper control arm cost $32 (Moog part on rockauto) . That includes the ball joint and two new bushings already installed. The video was still good at giving more options.
Thanks a lot. This approach worked on my Volvo V60 lower arm ball joint, though I used a really tiny flathead screwdriver to unwind the retaining ring.
Nicely explained video. Water can also damage ball joints if the dust cover is split.

Water adds to the inside volume therefore grease gets squirted or squeezed out even further, its not the grinding but the release of the grease that hurts perhaps
Awesome video, great camera work, great pace to your voice. All pluses! Thank you for the great information. I now have the knowledge and confidence to do this job.... I just need those miniature Captain Hook arms.
Thank you for this video. I see a lot of comments saying why not replace the ball joint or the entire control arm, one reason is because the parts that are being manufactured now are getting worse every year. This is a real problem that a lot of mechanics are having now. I'm going to replace my boots with polyurethane boots. Polyurethane will last longer than rubber, especially modern cheap rubber. To find the boots you need to google how to measure the boot and then google that boot size. Amazon and Ebay have tons of these.
99 times out off a 100 your damage the new rubber boots using bent bradawls as shown. The method I have always used is purchase new boots and new spring clips! Snip the old clips off! Use 2 short lengths of old metal brake pipe and slid each end on to the new spring clip joint, Expand the spring clip using the brake pipe untill the clip fits over the rubber boot and into the locating recess, Then remove the brake pipe and the spring clip will return to its original size

Awesome instructional video. your voice is great,
Just what I needed. Thank you very much. Good video.
Was curious whether this was doable. Thanks for the video!
great job, clean and clear 👍
Nice video, really nice music!
How did you find the replacement boot?? I have moog K500287 front lowers on my jeep and i tore both boots but the ball joints themselves are barely 20k miles old so i do not want to replace them. I cannot, for the life of me, find replacement boots for the moog k500287. I know moog doesnt sell boots by themselves but theres got to be an aftermarket option out there
This was really good.
Great job..easy to do
Great work on mazda 6!
Maraming salamat po kuya!! great help 👍

9:37 It's important that the smaller hole in the rubber boot is tight on the metal bolt and not too big or loose

Can one over grease a tie rod?
This is perty kool to replace the boots. But how old is the ball joint. Would it be just as easy to replace them if you are this far into the job.

Well my dumbass replaced my lower ball joint and forgot to remove the bushing from the old one and put it on the new one so I fucked up my boot on my new ball joint so I spent 100 bucks to get a new one and I’m trying to find a real boot so I can install it on the other side of the car since it’s universal on the front of a 2011 cord fusion
WHERE DID YOU PURCHASE the REPLACEMENT BOOTS, SIR? That would be nice to know.
If you put in a new ball joint before you know it the boot is rotted out might as well replace the boot probably last as long as a new joint
5:14 How did you know what size rubber boot to get? Car manufacturers don't normally sell the rubber boot separately?

Hi is this for Acura/Honda. Is there a lower spring tie for this or just the upper tie only?
@jharn79942
2 жыл бұрын
Yes there is a lower spring also. Best to put that on the boot before pushing the new boot onto the ball joint.
5:02 Which grease did you use? Lithium Based Grease is best.

For the age of the car, I used the general purpose grease I have around. I dont think the metal will recognize it at all LOL

Right, I want to do this on my charger… did tie rods and it was nuts/nightmare to do… Noticed upper and lower ball joints need to be replaced but I think I’m going to try this on my upper one….
What car is this? It’s harder to find just the rubber boots that fits than the ball joint itself

This is Insane Just Buy The Ball Joint With The Rubber Boot Already installed
@jgireby
10 ай бұрын
It takes the use of a $180 tool set to press out one on those ball joints and press the new one in. Plus the cost of a new ball joint, $25-80.
@louielou8262

And if the ball joint still good and oem, it's best to keep it and reboot it 😁🤙🏼 that ball joint will out last a new generic one

Some upper ball joints you can't even press out. You have to replace the entire upper control arm. And when you do that and not only do you have to buy all the parts, but then you need to get a new alignment as well.
make sure you wear gloves because most likely you will polk you hand with the pick or ring like i will 😂
To pop the upper control arm out, all you have to do is hit the side metal with a small heavy hammer a couple times and it pops out 🤷🏽♂️..too easy...u don't need that tool removal, those will damage the rubber boot
