Ball Joints Rubber Boot Easy Fix | Japanese Made Cars

Ойын-сауық

Keep your ball joints sealed for the environment. The seal used in this vid is for Japanese made car seal-ring which are thin, strong and sharp. Long nose pliers doesnt do a good job, this one will.

"Nobody wants to work in paradise." Ha! Nobody wants to work period anywhere it seems. Went to 3 mechanics and none of them wanted the job of replacing the ball joints on an old Camry. Go figure. Well, I might just try to do the job myself and save tons of money thanks to you!

Sometimes it is better to just replace the entire upper control arm. On my 2006 Acura TL the entire upper control arm cost $32 (Moog part on rockauto) . That includes the ball joint and two new bushings already installed. The video was still good at giving more options.

Thanks a lot. This approach worked on my Volvo V60 lower arm ball joint, though I used a really tiny flathead screwdriver to unwind the retaining ring.

Nicely explained video. Water can also damage ball joints if the dust cover is split.

Water adds to the inside volume therefore grease gets squirted or squeezed out even further, its not the grinding but the release of the grease that hurts perhaps

Thank you for this video. I see a lot of comments saying why not replace the ball joint or the entire control arm, one reason is because the parts that are being manufactured now are getting worse every year. This is a real problem that a lot of mechanics are having now. I'm going to replace my boots with polyurethane boots. Polyurethane will last longer than rubber, especially modern cheap rubber. To find the boots you need to google how to measure the boot and then google that boot size. Amazon and Ebay have tons of these.

99 times out off a 100 your damage the new rubber boots using bent bradawls as shown. The method I have always used is purchase new boots and new spring clips! Snip the old clips off! Use 2 short lengths of old metal brake pipe and slid each end on to the new spring clip joint, Expand the spring clip using the brake pipe untill the clip fits over the rubber boot and into the locating recess, Then remove the brake pipe and the spring clip will return to its original size

How did you find the replacement boot?? I have moog K500287 front lowers on my jeep and i tore both boots but the ball joints themselves are barely 20k miles old so i do not want to replace them. I cannot, for the life of me, find replacement boots for the moog k500287. I know moog doesnt sell boots by themselves but theres got to be an aftermarket option out there

Some upper ball joints you can't even press out. You have to replace the entire upper control arm. And when you do that and not only do you have to buy all the parts, but then you need to get a new alignment as well.

To pop the upper control arm out, all you have to do is hit the side metal with a small heavy hammer a couple times and it pops out 🤷🏽‍♂️..too easy...u don't need that tool removal, those will damage the rubber boot
