ADDRESS:
START: 8 Jalan Ampas, Singapore
END: 184 Jalan Toa Payoh, Singapore 319941
ABOUT THIS PLACE:
"The former Malay Film Productions (MFP) studio was established in 1940 by Shaw Organisation, which was founded by brothers Runme Shaw and Run Run Shaw. Malay films were shot and edited at the studio grounds which housed large-scale sets replicating locations such as kampongs. Between 1941 and 1967, a period known as the Golden Age of Malay Cinema, the studio produced more than 150 movies."

"The traditional architecture of Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery (莲山双林寺) - or ‘Twin Grove Monastery on Lotus Hill’ - stands out amidst the modern high-rise apartment blocks in the Toa Payoh neighbourhood. The monastery complex houses one of Singapore’s oldest Buddhist temples and testifies to the spread of Mahayana Buddhism in the region."

Although the monastery looks very traditional in parts, it is evolving to meet the needs of changing times. This is not just a museum, but a working and modern place also. 🤔
i had no idea this existed. this was cool fai! so many interesting things to see. those gates 28 minutes in were especially interesting to look at with the fountains and sculptures around. be well! 🛴❤
So, the film studio was founded by Runme and Run Run, and filmed by Fai can walk. Hmmm. 😁 It's a nice looking neighbourhood, clean and modern. It looked like a nice day for a wander around and explore. I like the way the planners allowed for plenty of green bushes and trees. This softens the hard edged and large architecture. The temples of the monastery look more traditional, full of peace and rich with cultural heritage. They are well maintained, with improvements continuing. This is an evolving place: with older areas and more modern additions. The residential section needs more air conditioners!
